@Whitestar55 I'm amazed they think we're going to type long arse "notes" that in reality are letters and not pay us ??? I feel sure that the employed at DICT8 wouldn't work for nothing so why they think we should is beyond me. I am going to leave these short notes, that in reality are letters, from now on.

Whitestar55 · 28/03/2023 13:08

@Pinksville I think many of their contractors are unaware of the notes box situation, especially the new recruits, so they go along with whatever they're told to do with it. They claim to have 3000+ on their books and are still advertising for more, probably to ensure they always have someone to pick up the work.

Currently I am working my way through a 42 minute dictation of a whole clinic and I am so pleased the dictation is clear.

Just out of curiosity, can you guys remember the longest dictation you have picked up? This is by far my longest, probably by about 15 minutes!

Pinksville · 28/03/2023 14:35

I had one that was over an hour but the the dictation on it was 50 seconds 😂

sijacks05 · 28/03/2023 17:06

I had an 8 min one at weekend but encompassed 9 letters from different specialities. Not one had a clear name, dob or hospital number! Took me a good 35 mins! Feedback today - please type what you hear! So I typed patient has no known drug allergies. I was told this is incorrect and should've have been "he has not no known drug allergies " , basically don't use my common sense which is insulting to 24 year experienced med sec.

Whitestar55 · 28/03/2023 17:14

@sijacks05 Ask them if they are telling you how to do the work and if so that it contravenes the criteria of the self-employed status with which they have contracted you.

OP posts:
sijacks05 · 28/03/2023 17:20

From now on, I'm typing what I hear no matter what, even through the munching, background noise, mumbled dictation. It's ridiculous to get feedback like that. Wondering if it's even worth doing atm

Whitestar55 · 28/03/2023 20:26

Type what we hear, ok, 'erm, er, cough, achoo, slurp, yawn, rustle (papers), bing bong (loud system noise), bang (door), burp, neee naaar (siren), natter natter natter (background chatter), crackle, ding (end of dictation).

@YellowBellyLola I am not sure of the longest one I had - in the good old days when we used to get old clinics I regularly did 15 mins one, not often longer as my laptop was old and needed a rest after a while otherwise it would do funny things, go slow etc. There were regularly 25 to 35 minute clinics on offer. I remember one New Years Eve I was doing a long one, cannot remember how long it was in dictated minutes but it took me over five hours - including a break for lunch. I got a bit frustrated as my laptop started to play up and also I think DICT8 IT's department was also doing work on the system thinking not many people would be working and that was causing problems. Remember when they used to send messages through saying you had been working on a task for a long time? I forget the exact wording. Don't get those anymore!

Gally123 · 28/03/2023 20:37

@Pinksville yep had those as well, ending with lots of sounds of footsteps walking down the corridor etc etc. Also had ones of over an hour where I think some bright spark used to try and record teaching sessions thinking someone would type up the notes for them. I used to just put "no letter dictated, just background chat" and if ever DICT8 queried it I would have mentioned that I don't think the person had informed everyone else that they were being recorded - once there was chat about a one of the doctors suffering a break in etc which I don't think they would have wanted made public. The recording was obviously done very underhandedly as it would start 5 to 10 mins before the teaching session.

ElleBee56 · 29/03/2023 10:02

@sijacks05 If you had typed exactly what you heard ("he has not no known drug allergies") as directed by your feedback, as an experienced med sec and if you were working in a hospital and received that to be sent out, wouldn't you think what sort of idiot has typed this? I'd have to edit the letter before it went anywhere! I've heard some diabolical dictation, awful grammar and sentences that don't make any sense and I've more often than not changed them to make sense. Surely Dict8's reputation depends upon the accuracy of the work that's submitted and if it makes no sense in my opinion that shines a poor light on the transcribers (who are doing exactly as directed) and the company they work for. I personally have received letters from various companies/councils/NHS, etc., and some of the grammar and spelling is appalling considering they're official letters and one of the things that really bugs me is "Dear Fred Bloggs"! I feel like using a bright yellow highlighter, marking all the errors and sending them back! What happened to Dear Mr Bloggs? I'm on a ranty roll today! 😡

Pinksville · 29/03/2023 13:04

@sijacks05 That sentence includes a double negative therefore I would question the proofreader feedback with DICT8. Personally I don't think that is acceptable feedback, and like you say with 24 years experience it's an insult.

I was told you could add the odd and, the, if, etc if the letter didn't make sense but then again one week you're told one thing and the next it's completely different !!!!

sijacks05 · 29/03/2023 13:26

Advice changes constantly. Really fed up with the negativity. The dictation is atrocious most of the time. I do send email queries back for my own benefit but all you get is "thank you for your feedback, will refer to the checker. Few days break now thank goodness

Whitestar55 · 29/03/2023 13:33

I think they really need to look at improving their overall system and retaining and gaining clients instead of reprimanding the transcribers for the failings of the current system and poor dictation and recordings.

My task list is dreadful today, and if I had to type verbatim I feel sure my head would explode 😱 The sound quality is loud/whispering/shouting

Surely DICT8 have a legal obligation to ensure sound quality is not detrimental to the ears ?

Pinksville · 30/03/2023 10:07

I think there's a comedian working as a proofreader - twice this week I've LOL at the nonsensical feedback. The whole company, the dictation, the feedback, the payment method - none of it makes sense 😱I know it's 10 am but I need a drink 😂

Whitestar55 · 30/03/2023 12:51

@Pinksville Frido Technologies and 11-29 Media These appear to be Dict8's sister companies, both registered at same address as DICT8, with same director. I think Dict8 is just a sideline business really that keeps ticking over somehow.

Frido Technologies

A sanitising system that uses Far UVC light to inactivate airborne and surface viruses, including the COVID virus while people are present.

"specializing in monetisation, operational strategies and executions" <- @Whitestar55 should we be worried 😂

nomadchild · 30/03/2023 15:07

For those on Tpro with regard to when they shout out to us all to pick up the backlog, to me that makes sense. They usually suggest doing a few and if we all pitch in it makes sense it clears it. After all that is what I would suggest in an office environment, it clears the bad dictation blocking the system. I think it’s a good proactive solution. You are not bound to do it but it’s part of working together which we all have to do at times. Also I often find when I go to do them they’ve already cleared.

😂I know, that has been spotted and mentioned before on the previous thread, and caused some amusement 😁

@nomadchild - I always have a go sometimes you find a doctor clearer than the specialties you prefer to type so it can be an advantage at times to make a note of that person in case it comes up again. Ive a merry list at the moment and finding it a lot easier to make money. Ive clocked up £600 this month and that is working part time. Im lucky to get £100 for month with Dict8 if i go all out for them so theres no point making them my priority now. Dict8 may pay a better rate but i cant make the money with them anymore with such dire tasks. Its much easier and less stress to work on and Tpro. I still pick odd one up now and again with Dict8 but its still shocking work and i just think well at least it keeps my account open with them as you never know what might happen in this day and age where business is concerned

danblack87 · 31/03/2023 16:33

Plenty of tasks today but the dictation is diabolical. I have given up for the most part today. It is so disheartening.

Whitestar55 · 31/03/2023 19:53

Sparse work on Dict8 today for me, but enough to tick over and fairly clear dictation.

I apologise for that huge FRIDO logo that dominates this page, lol, I didn't expect the link to do that - the power of advertising hey! Maybe we can all get a better job with Frido 😂

It's so disheartening when you've been slogging away all day and calculate that you've earned around £7.50 an hour.

Hi,

Not been on my computer for a while, been flu'd up and pulling muscles. Your quote leads me to a specific question for my first tax return. My friend is self employed and showed me his example of his tax return in order to submit but the hours worked and hourly rate is something I'm unsure about filling in. I never really timed my work just met a quota. I'm not sure how to get around this. Now i've got my carers allowance and my earnings were taken into consideration, i'm still trying to keep what i earn to the same monthly total i used to type for but of course i'm getting more of it from the allowance now and its kicked my monthly cheques quite down. I'd appreciate any help in how i submit this information. I used to sit roughly 8am until 12 or later somedays depending on how the work trickled in but its not touching minimum wage that way by any means.
