Hi, Here we go again, anyone else set up a new thread yet? Hope to find everyone 🙂

Perhaps we should start up our own service between us. All walk out at same time. All proceeds to us at fair rate (can dream). 😏

Can you imagine going to the office in a Onesie? I noticed at work in the NHS none-patient facing office you could get away with black demin jeans, but not blue denim.

To be fair the office would have been warmer anyway, but still, I don't miss the clothes I set aside for the office. 🙂

@Frazzledbynature - your workmen charge very cheap rates! You are very lucky. When I get cold I put a thick woolly cardigan over my knees that keeps my legs warm.

@Whitestar55 - not sure if things have changed but in the local hospitals were I worked (2 most recently) even if you were allowed to wear your own clothes it was quite strict - one was black skirt and white blouse (or a grey suit for supervisors) and another was navy blue skirt with a blue and white striped blouse and blue cardi. We were never allowed jeans of any colour.

Not cheap when it doesn't solve the issue and we are on benefits, that money needed to go to fuel the home :(

@Whitestar55 The only issue we had was one member of staff wanting to walk around in her bare feet all the time and her "office rival" had a go at her for it, said she could smell her feet! lol

Gally123 · 11/01/2023 09:48

@Frazzledbynature yes, but you could charged £200 for an emergency call out, that does not solve the issue.

Frazzledbynature · 11/01/2023 09:53

I have been concentrating on my health (like most in the new year I guess) but my days of sitting and typing are coming to an end. Including all of the gripes above it's just not healthy sitting and waiting for work is it?

I've been making inwards to tidying up our outside room we use for gaming, my son uses it for when his care worker visits also and mainly it's for my crafting. I figured over Christmas, to have a bash at making something with my sewing and see if I can get it to sell. If it works out I may be able to quit this because even if I make back the cost of materials and pennies spent for the electricity it's got to be better being more active than this?

... and if not the above there has to be some other side hustle to be found?

Whitestar55 · 11/01/2023 10:43

@Frazzledbynature I really hope your crafting business takes off successfully. I agree with you that sitting doing transcription all day wrecks your health, both physically and mentally in my opinion. I can't bear the thought of being stuck with it for the rest of my working life, so like you I'm looking into other options and hoping to be able to cut it down to just a backup, and eventually to not have to do it at all.

@Frazzledbynature The lack of creativity in transcription work is another gripe for me, it drives me insane!

Gobbledygook galore today, not worth the stress of re-listening and researching. Time to check out Indeed Jobs.

@Whitestar55 - yep same here, there is one doctor who I have not had before and they are seriously talking in another language! Do they not know these letters are being typed up in English!!!

danblack87 · 13/01/2023 14:30

I've only done a few tasks today but I have my grandchild so it is rather difficult to negotiate work around looking after her!!

danblack87 · 13/01/2023 14:31

No reply yet from Dict8 re. any insight as to an increase in pay/line.

Whitestar55 · 16/01/2023 10:25

Has anyone noticed less correspondence generally and less pickiness from them regarding the feedback/checking your work emails? I'm wondering if they are being careful regarding the criteria of employment status now due to publicity around Uber/couriers/zero hours etc.

OP posts:
Gally123 · 16/01/2023 10:35

@Whitestar55 once when I queried the frequency of feedback I was told it was on about 20% of work undertaken, so if you do less work for them they check it less (unless you make mistakes and then they check it a lot etc).

Whitestar55 · 16/01/2023 10:46

I've noticed less feedback about certain things despite doing same amount of work. Maybe they have less proofreaders now.

Thanks, I hope you find something too sooner rather than later. I'm tired of the emails now, can't do right for wrong or is that "write"for wrong?!!

I can't be arsed to argue the toss with them anymore, tell me to do one thing in one email, say I shouldn't be doing it the next. One was including the Copywrite/trademark after certain meds last week "but you told me to!" So much for us all singing on the same page, I missed it out today but they pulled me for typing out something I had checked over twice and apparently it was the incorrect English words, you know the thing that is prevalent in our line of work, I know what I hear but yeah sure it sounds like something else so understand where we are coming from instead of pulling me for it, it's not as if that's going to reoccur again is it?

I wonder how i went 2 months without being corrected i really do :(

They only write back if you are typing something wrong! ;)

Whitestar55 · 16/01/2023 18:29

@Frazzledbynature I think they interfere too much with how we type our work, fair enough if we make a genuine medical terminology/spelling/typing error, but other things should be at our professional discretion as a medical secretary freelancer if you ask me.

irritating when your tasks show totally random specialities dictated by doctors who are extremely difficult to understand so you cannot even try to interpret.
I thought Dict8 only downloaded the specialties you had signed up for. Totally wasted best part of an hour on these!!

Whitestar55 · 16/01/2023 22:56

@Australia25 I've found that every so often other specialties slip through, I once had a number of Gynae tasks that were
clear and easy, so I typed them, I wish they'd give us access to more specialties like T-pro do, and not just restrict us to a list of 5, often diabolical, tasks at a time in a couple of specialties, it's like an endurance punishment test most of the time 😂

OP posts:
joewe41 · 17/01/2023 10:51

@Whitestar55 or they don't allow you to type anything other than specialty you have most recently been in. Totally ridiculous.

Whitestar55 · 17/01/2023 11:40

@joewe41 I know, (unless it's a specialty they have problems recruiting for, then they'll ask if you would try it) and I think they're going to struggle to recruit transcribers as even band 2 NHS pay is now more than you can earn with them.

Ironically, i've had a few different specialities and never once been pulled for any of the letters either 😁

Stillgrinding · 18/01/2023 09:27

Morning all, a very interesting topic, I am new to this topic so please forgive me if this has been answered in the past. I too do a little for Dict8 and am considering applying for TPro as the work in my specialty on Dict8 is very sparce. I am just curious though, if there is so much available work on TPro why would anybody bother carrying on working on the Dict8 system? Thanks in advance for any replies. I just need to make sure if it is worth it before going through the rigmarole of applying.🤔

Whitestar55 · 18/01/2023 11:05

@Stillgrinding I think it's probably just a case of not putting all your eggs in one basket. DICT8 is there to pick up and drop (enough tasks permitting) as you like and to be honest that's all it's worth because you can't earn a decent living with it.

OP posts:
nomadchild · 18/01/2023 14:10

I just do Tpro now as I can make so much more money and they treat you like a human being. I did think it would be a mix of both when I signed up to Tpro but there is so much work and in all specialties I find it much more interesting, so haven’t felt the need to type for Dict8 since October.
