I applied for a job via Indeed and have been offered a first interview over Microsoft teams. They seem to want a lot of ID, I would have thought a passport/driving license and maybe bank statement from last 3 months would cover it.
This is what they asked for:

PLEASE PROVIDE AT LEAST ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

Current Valid UK Passport
Current EEA Citizen Current Passport
UK Birth/Adoption Certificate
Certificate or Registration or Naturalisation (National Identity Card)
Birth/Adoption Certificate issued in Channel Islands, Isle of Man or Ireland
If you are a Non EEA Citizen:
Valid Passport (Any Nationality) with suitable endorsement
Current Biometric Immigration Status document permitting employment
UK Biometric Residence Permit or Permanent Residence Card and a valid passport

PLEASE PROVIDE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

Payslip from a previous employer dated within the past 3 months
National Insurance Card
P60 or P45 issued in the last 12 months
Letter from Government Department which contains your National Insurance Number

PLEASE PROVIDE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

Utility Bill/Bank/Building Society Statements dated within the last 3 months
Letter from Government Department (Job Centre, HMRC, Benefits Agency) dated within the last 3 months
Provisional/Full Driving License
Council tax bill dated within the last 12 months

PLEASE PROVIDE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

Bank or building society statement
Bank Card (only the SORT and ACCOUNT code will be checked)

If you have any queries about the arrangements for your interview, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I’m wondering if this is a scam? It’s not a job that requires a security check, it’s just admin.

This sounds
Ike a scam. What sort of job and company?

Mammajay · 05/08/2022 17:28

Sorry you said admin. That is definitely too much information to be giving out

daffodilandtulip · 05/08/2022 17:28

My 16yo needed all these for McDonald's

ChocolateLabsRule · 05/08/2022 17:29

It’s just an admin job, nothing very security sensitive.

Doesn’t sound right to me. We ask candidates to bring ID and proof of right to work in the UK if not a UK national. There may be other checks done later but not at the interview stage.

Darkness22 · 05/08/2022 17:32

It's definitely not for a DBS? Or in a regulated sector?

DeathMetalMum · 05/08/2022 17:36

Doesn't sound too bad, proof of identity, proof of ability to work in the UK, proof of address and then proof you have a bank account that they can pay you by.

Not sure I'd be willing to provide all of this via teams but the information requested seems fine.

Mol1628 · 05/08/2022 17:37

Sounds fine/normal to me. They usually don’t ask to see these till job offer stage though. You might find they don’t even bother asking.

ChocolateLabsRule · 05/08/2022 17:38

It just seems a lot for a first interview, over MS teams, it made me a bit paranoid. Especially the bit about a bank card.

When I applied for a volunteer relief post with my local council (a handful of hours a year) there was also a requirement to produce my wedding certificate (for name change) from 44 years ago and my divorce certificate (fuck knows why) from 40 years ago. It was ironic as I'd worked for the council for 20 years and had just retired. I didn't progress the interview process any further, it had taken 3 meetings at that point, and told them why. Totally ridiculous!

Krustykrabpizza · 05/08/2022 17:40

Sounds like they're doing a DBs check?

WaveyHair · 05/08/2022 17:42

I had to produce something similar for a permanent role, after accepting the role to prove I had a right to work in the UK.

Not for the interview.

ChocolateLabsRule · 05/08/2022 17:44

Maybe it is for a DBS, but wouldn’t they want to have at least met me first? I would have thought that was only if they were offering the job,, which this definitely isn’t at that stage.

I had an NHS interview yesterday and was asked for ID - I flashed my driving licence and that was it. This sound OTT in my opinion

But a driving license is not proof of RTW

HipsterCoffeeShop · 05/08/2022 17:59

I've only been asked for that kind of ID for a DBS check.

I have been asked to bring it to interview in the past as it is quicker for them to process if successful - they already have it from when I attended the interview instead of asking me to come in again with ID.

But it's always been clear that is why they are asking & have been informed it will be shredded if unsuccessful

No, but it is proof of identity. If successful at interview, they can then ask for more info.

chilliesandspices · 05/08/2022 18:09

I've only ever been asked for a passport. That sounds like too much for an interview, especially with DGPR in force. Organisations shouldn't collect more data than they need. At interview stage id say it's right to check right to work but you can do that with a passport. Bank statements, NI number etc sounds like overkill at such an early stage I'd be suspicious.

chilliesandspices · 05/08/2022 18:11

But a driving license is not proof of RTW

Even if it says you were born in the U.K.?

dementedpixie · 05/08/2022 18:16

So it's proof of ID, NI number, proof of address and bank details that they are looking for?

Doesnt sound like a scam

Nope

ChocolateLabsRule · 05/08/2022 18:20

I’m just wondering why they need my bank details for a first interview?
Proof of ID/ right to work I can understand and I’ve had to show a passport before at interview. Never bank details.

I work in HR

Namechanger1002 · 05/08/2022 18:23

I work for a care provider and we ask for 3 forms of ID and RTW if needed at interview stage to get the dbs process started ASAP if they are successful. We haven’t had an applicant that has had a problem with it. If they aren’t successful we shred straight away.

sleeping@last · 05/08/2022 18:24

Sorry posted too soon.

I work in Education, we ask for 3 documents. Photo ID (usually passport or driving licence), 2 other forms of ID (people usually provide a bank statement and utility bill dated within the past 3 months).

The list looks similar to what we ask for, but we only need 3, not 4.
