I applied for a job via Indeed and have been offered a first interview over Microsoft teams. They seem to want a lot of ID, I would have thought a passport/driving license and maybe bank statement from last 3 months would cover it.
This is what they asked for:

PLEASE PROVIDE AT LEAST ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

Current Valid UK Passport
Current EEA Citizen Current Passport
UK Birth/Adoption Certificate
Certificate or Registration or Naturalisation (National Identity Card)
Birth/Adoption Certificate issued in Channel Islands, Isle of Man or Ireland
If you are a Non EEA Citizen:
Valid Passport (Any Nationality) with suitable endorsement
Current Biometric Immigration Status document permitting employment
UK Biometric Residence Permit or Permanent Residence Card and a valid passport

PLEASE PROVIDE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

Payslip from a previous employer dated within the past 3 months
National Insurance Card
P60 or P45 issued in the last 12 months
Letter from Government Department which contains your National Insurance Number

PLEASE PROVIDE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

Utility Bill/Bank/Building Society Statements dated within the last 3 months
Letter from Government Department (Job Centre, HMRC, Benefits Agency) dated within the last 3 months
Provisional/Full Driving License
Council tax bill dated within the last 12 months

PLEASE PROVIDE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

Bank or building society statement
Bank Card (only the SORT and ACCOUNT code will be checked)

If you have any queries about the arrangements for your interview, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I’m wondering if this is a scam? It’s not a job that requires a security check, it’s just admin.

I've never had to give bank details until I've been employed, they've only been used to pay my salary into the bank. Why would they be needed at this stage?

Namechanger1002 · 05/08/2022 18:25

Re the bank details - again, to save time we give applicants pre employment forms to fill in which includes bank details for where they want their wages paying. Nothing sinister- we just want to save as much time as possible if the candidate is successful. We don’t keep any details on file of unsuccessful candidates. Doing it this way can shave 2-3 weeks off the process.

Jalepenojello · 05/08/2022 18:30

This was normal when I applied for agency jobs, or normal when when applying directly IMO

MajorCarolDanvers · 05/08/2022 18:32

It's proof you have the right to work
In the uk.

We don't ask for this until we make a
Job offer

ChocolateLabsRule · 05/08/2022 18:32

Ok, thanks, so maybe it’s nothing to worry about then?

Driving licence isn't acceptable for right to work, and overall it does sound like a simplified version of DBS documents, so it could be that. Even though you are admin, some organisations have to DBS eveyone if they deal with children or vulnerable adults.

Bank card is weird even for payroll purposes you don't show them your actual card, just give your account number and sort code. It could be to ensure there are no errors due to bad handwriting etc. You could cover the long card number for security.

carefullycourageous · 05/08/2022 18:37

I would ask them what they need it for and what they do with the docs if you are unsuccessful. Are they a big company? If they were a large organisation I would be less concerned as their data policies should be set and displayed properly. I might be worried that J Bloggs Builders were just going to put my docs in the bin rather than dispose of them securely.

I am surprised they are doing this unless a DBS check is needed, to date I have never had to prove ID at interview stage.

Itshardbutisit · 05/08/2022 18:37

I work in the public sector-sounds like a standard list to me

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 05/08/2022 18:42

Never been asked to show a bank card before and wouldn’t. Only given bank details when I’ve received the new starter pack after signing contract.
I wouldn’t give these details out prior to receiving a contract either.

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 05/08/2022 18:43

Also I have worked for numerous banks and only been asked for passport at interview stage

AmJustDone · 05/08/2022 18:54

I've never been asked for bank details other than for payroll

All of my jobs have included DBS checks

NI number (not a card or paperwork), passport and occasionally proof of address (by an agency not an employer)

I was once asked for a copy of my bank statement to prove I hadn't worked elsewhere in the 10 days between leaving my previous work and starting a new job. I refused and they accepted a confirmation that I hadn't been in employment.

I wouldn't be giving my bank card details or statements to anyone

chilliesandspices · 05/08/2022 19:09

Jeremy Clarkson once published his bank details to prove it wasn't a risk. Someone set up a direct debit to charity to prove him wrong amp.theguardian.com/money/2008/jan/07/personalfinancenews.scamsandfraud

I don't understand why they'd want you bank account and sort number at he interview stage.

Albgo · 05/08/2022 19:18

Is it a reputable and well known company? I'd be suspicious if not and certainly wouldn't be providing my bank card. All seems a bit much for a first interview and I'd probably pull my application in your shoes.

LoveBugBride · 05/08/2022 19:27

I would provide ID at interview stage ie passport or drivers license and day the rest will be provided if you are offered the job.
