Day off and expected to go in for work meeting…

I’m off work next week (whoop whoop) but there’s a work meeting on Friday (I don’t work Fridays) but the Manager replied to one of my emails ‘Have a good week Kay and see you Friday’!

Seriously WTF I don’t friggin want to go in at 11am for a work meeting!

Should I lie, say I can’t or what?

What do you think?

Will they give you time off in lieu? What does your contract say?

Saltycinnamon · 06/03/2022 19:27

Maybe it was just without thinking & they forgot you don’t work Fridays. I wouldn’t do anything now, you’re off, you haven’t read your emails!

Hercisback · 06/03/2022 19:28

Maybe he said it without thinking. Just reply "Sorry I'm not in Friday, see you the week after".

DenholmElliot · 06/03/2022 19:28

Please don't lie. Lyings wrong.

Just send your apologies the day before and ask for a copy of the minutes to be emailed over to you to keep you up to date.

Or if it's really important, ask if you can attend by zoom.

NerrSnerr · 06/03/2022 19:30

Did they just forget you don't work on a Friday? I work PT and get this all the time as lots of staff work odd days so it's hard to keep track of.

If it's a meeting that I really want to go to and would benefit me I will do it on my dah off (if I have no other plans) but I always take the time back. If it's just a normal, run of the mill meeting I just reply and remind them it's my day off so I can't attend.

I think they would give me time of in lieu but I just can’t face it. Also they want us to take food in and eat after. I hate anything like that. We’ve been WFH two years and the thought of meeting up makes me rather anxious too. I know this doesn’t make sense but I’m not sure I want to do any of this, certainly not on my day off.

You do not work on Fridays.

You reply saying 'I don't work on Fridays, so can't attend the meeting.'

If this causes an issue, you have a toxic manager and need a new job.

sofakingcool · 06/03/2022 19:33

Are you going away? If not, does your boss know you're not? I wonder if he's not thinking about your mon-Thurs holiday?

Although, would you normally go in for a meeting on your day off?

That’s the thing, I’m not even sure how important the meeting is. I’ve no way of asking now as I’m off.

I’m feeling so anxious but know I need to calm down.

Don't know what you could say to lie but if he has replied now, after you have finished work for the week and aren't back in until a week on Monday, reply that morning and say 'oh, this came in after work, I was on leave last week and don't work Fridays. Hope you had a good meeting'.

And stop opening emails out of working hours. Really.

The Manager logged off at 4pm Friday just after sending the email.

She’s not the nicest manager and if I went, I’d see her there too. Could do without it.

You don’t work on a Friday. Reply saying just that. And then forget about it if you’re on holiday!

I didn’t open the email out of hours though.

You don’t need an excuse/reason/lie, you don’t work Fridays, so obviously any work activity that happens on a Friday, you aren’t there for. If it was an important/mandatory meeting, it either would have been arranged for a day everybody could attend, or it would have been prefaced with a chat with you, acknowledging it was outside of your working hours but asking if it’s possible for you to attend. Assume your boss has typed without thinking. You haven’t responded to the meeting request to indicate you’ll be there, have you?

I didn’t reply but if I do now she’ll know I’ve logged on since Friday.

Oh I’m so confused over what to do/say!!

When did you stop working last working week and when did you open the email? Do you work at weekends and you opened it then?

DenholmElliot · 06/03/2022 19:40

Don;t you put your "out of office" on your emails when you leave?

No, I’d not responded back. Besides, she’d already gone offline.

Hi, if you don't work Fridays you don't go to meetings. What if you were working at a different job on a Friday? They are paying for your time, and they haven't paid for Friday, so they don't get it.

ChooseYourUsernameWisely · 06/03/2022 19:41

@DenholmElliot

Yes but she sent the message then logged off at 4pm. I logged off at 5pm.

On Friday?

ApolloandDaphne · 06/03/2022 19:43

Just e mail back tomorrow saying you don't work on Fridays so won't be at the meeting. No need to do any more.

AlisonDonut · 06/03/2022 19:43

You opened it and saw it was about a meeting on a day you don't work so didn't read til the end.

Right?

DenholmElliot · 06/03/2022 19:43

I'm confused. If your manager logged off at 4pm on Friday and you don't work Fridays, then how could you have logged off at 5pm on Friday? Surely Thursday was the last day you were in work?

ChooseYourUsernameWisely · 06/03/2022 19:44

Good point. They don’t deserve my extra time if I’m honest anyway. They’ve not been particularly supportive and my head isn’t in the right place to sit talk and eat with them.
