Recruiter has misled me on job pay rate

Was called up by Hays Recruitment for a job within NHS.
Have been trying to find part time job for 3 months to fit in around existing job which I don't do for 11.5 hrs. It has proved much harder than I expected so was really pleased to be offered role. Recruitment consultant super friendly - gave me all details and told me the rate was £12ph. This was a better rate than other jobs available so agreed and was quite pleased and happy to start on Thursday at location. Spent Thursday and Friday there both days getting all relevant passes and ID sorted for access to their system - this took a LONG time so also did some online training and bits and pieces to help out in the office while waiting. At 3.45pm on Friday, received an email with attachment from Hays. Couldn't download the attachment at the time and thought I would do it when I get home (ie not in work hours). When I opened it it said : Assignment Confirmation Letter
Premium Rate - £12.10 ph

Statutory Holiday deduction £1.30 ph
Working rate - £10.80 ph
(less NI deductions of course)
So they send me this after I have done 2 days "work" and I feel completely misled. The rate is £10.80 ph and not £12 - I have emailed back to say I want to speak to them first thing Monday and I really want to tell them to stick their job. I hate letting anyone down (ie NHS) and I know that the last 2 days will have been a complete waste of time for my "new boss" and she will not be happy. But I just feel this is underhand and deceitful.
If I don't carry on I am then without a job and back on the market looking and I feel so disappointed and annoyed. What would you do?

You have been aggressive in your responses to people trying to help you. And no one has stuck up for hays - just pointing out that your answers are on their website - if you had bothered to look.

But hey ho.

I used to temp years ago and never once did I get sent on an assignment without having a contract first. That's a bit shoddy. Confirm with them that the rate does/doesn't include the uplift for holiday pay. You used to be able to get the upper rate with no holiday accrual but not sure if the agencies are allowed to do this now.

Happy to confirm I don't work for Hays. I haven't been a temp for a very long time - there was no holiday pay in those days from what I remember.

Read the first message, felt a bit sorry for OP, but having read OPs replies to some people.....

Now believe OP had a bit of an attitude problem. People have been very helpful on this thread and it's just been rudely chucked by in their faces.

And so what if they did work for Hays?? They're still trying to help you. No need to be an arse about it.

Catfox1 · 29/01/2022 15:25

Ouch. Are you sure you haven’t misled Hays as to your personality? Some interesting responses 😬

misscockerspaniel · 29/01/2022 15:53

It sounds as though the rate they told you includes rolled-up holiday pay of £1.30ph. You will receive £12.10ph but will not be entitled to paid leave (other than for public and bank hols, presumably).

SkiingIsHeaven · 29/01/2022 16:05

I had the same with Hays. Given rate for agency Structural Engineer. When I took the job they said the pay was less. When I complained they said "Don't take the job then!" No explanation.

Same happened to another agency guy there.

I put it down to them being con artists and never used them again.

There are many other employment agencies out there.

@Jobseeker19

I work for an agency and accrue holiday pay on top of my rate. I get paid what they offer me. I agree with you that Hays is working slyly. They should be more clear.
It's hardly sly when they say £12.10 and £10.80. It's there in black and white
