Can my employer ask for PCR results email?

SirRaymondClench · 30/12/2021 19:21

Had a positive LFT so I had a PCR test this morning and just waiting for the results.
Can my employer ask me to forward on the email when it comes with my results? I'm guessing they will want to see proof I have Covid.

Would you be concerned about passing on the email?

bonetiredwithtwins · 30/12/2021 19:26

you'd effectively be off for longer than the 7 days covered by self certification so you'd need to provide some evidence surely? Doesn't the PCR act like a doctor authorised sick note?

So many people taking the piss at the moment - claiming to have symptoms but refusing to do LFT or get a PCR but also refusing to come to work and expecting full pay - most employers I know are cracking down on it

Holly60 · 30/12/2021 19:26

Why does it really matter either way?

FindingMeno · 30/12/2021 19:28

I was surprised my employer didn't ask, as I'd assumed that would be standard and I would be obliged to provide it.

R0tational · 30/12/2021 19:28

Our school asks for them for pupils. Shrug.

OverByYer · 30/12/2021 19:29

I sent mine without asking, why wouldnt you unless you were taking the piss?

APerfectSky · 30/12/2021 19:29

My child's school asked to see proof before they could go back to school (for safety reasons), I guess this is similar (or to ensure people aren't taking the piss).

If your result is genuine, why would this potentially bother you?

DramaAlpaca · 30/12/2021 19:30

I'd automatically forward it to my employer.

LubaLuca · 30/12/2021 19:30

What does it matter if they ask to see it? As a pp said, if you test positive it acts as your sick note.

Self cert is currently 28 days for any condition Smile
Mooghan · 30/12/2021 19:31

It's absolutely not!

There's no problem with me forwarding it, I just wondered if they will ask for it or should I just send it anyway?
So much has changed in procedure that it's not easy to know what to do.
I'm expecting I will be on sick pay while I'm off, are people really getting full pay? (or just expecting it?)

Many employers are treating covid absence totally separately from normal sickness. We are fortunate enough to have full pay for any covid absence but are expected to be transparent about it and share test results and isolation notifications when that was relevant.

It depends on your company sick pay policy

I would get full pay

DH would only get statutory

Cam2020 · 30/12/2021 19:37

I forwarded mine to my boss to inform him and also HR as I wasn't sure about the process.

HR needed the code from test and trace.

HundredMilesAnHour · 30/12/2021 19:38

If your PCR is positive, the NHS can provide an isolation note stating you are positive. You use this instead of a fit note. Just send this to your employer.

I'm not sure what this is in response to, but it came right after the bit about self cert being 28 days. It absolutely is, now! It's temporary.
DonGray · 30/12/2021 19:40

You can now self certify for 28 days www.gov.uk/taking-sick-leave

MagentaRocks · 30/12/2021 19:43

It is. Only temporary though.
Longdistance · 30/12/2021 19:48

I work in (private) education and would have no qualms about sending over my PCR result. I already send my LFT results if they’re negative to them.

Campfirewood · 30/12/2021 19:51

If they want to claim Stat sick pay, they need evidence. Furthermore, it depends on their risk assessments for work. So yes, they can ask.

rc22 · 30/12/2021 19:53

I just forwarded the text I got with my pcr result to my boss. Quickest way to let them know really!

PatsyJStone · 30/12/2021 19:57

Not an unusual request to ask for the PCR result email, and yes, at this point in time self cert is absolutely up to 28 days

At the risk of stating the bloomin obvious how can anyone here know if your employer asks for covid emails? Seriously, how? Confused Grin
