and how you are finding it? For context I'm a sahm who hasn't been in work since 2020 and I haven't worked term time only before but will be needing to look for term time only work next year.

I would like to work as a TA but have no previous experience. I am thinking of a volunteer role first to gain experience.

Hi OP have you got any previous experience or qualifications?

BonnyEm · 27/12/2021 21:31

Schools are your best bet. Teacher, T.A., school kitchen, cleaner, reception, admin (back of house) etc.

User2638483 · 27/12/2021 21:32

Public sector, not education. A few but not many people on term time contracts. I think part of the problem is that outside a school setting it might be possible to request it in time but after you’ve been there a while and sort of proved yourself.

Having said that, the large state secondary academy near me advertises regularly for various different roles including admin.

Or you could do temp work, start in September and then if you can’t have summer hols off give notice, Sep - July would be a reasonable length temp contract

User2638483 · 27/12/2021 21:33

And volunteering in school is a great way in.

Or if your home is suitable how about childminder offering term time only? Would cut down on clients but lots of teachers would probably welcome that contract

Itmustbeaproblemwithyourdoodad · 27/12/2021 21:33

TA at a special primary school. Like you OP I was a SAHM before that and had no experience other than with my own kids. So don’t let that hold you back! I did also run a stay and play toddler group as a volunteer, but in the interview I mainly talked about my experiences as a parent.

bettertimesarecomingnow · 27/12/2021 21:34

Teacher in special education

tiredanddangerous · 27/12/2021 21:34

School admin. Over worked and very underpaid but I enjoy it.

That's how I got my job. I started off as a volunteer and when a vacancy came up I was asked if I would consider applying for it.
BrutusMcDogface · 27/12/2021 21:35

Teacher here, too.

One of my friends just got a term time job at a sixth form college doing some kind of pastoral care.

NeedToKnow101 · 27/12/2021 21:36

I am in SEN in FE. A job if you're unqualified but open to training is Learning Support Worker role.

MissMaple82 · 27/12/2021 21:37

Can't imagine a term time only childminder would get any takers, most people are not working in schools or colleges and need childcare all year round.

Savingpeoplehuntingthings · 27/12/2021 21:38

Early years educator. Crap pay but no childcare costs and all the holidays off with my kids.
I did retrained after having them, started as a volunteer and then was offered a paid job while I got qualified.

backonceagain79 · 27/12/2021 21:38

Nhs nurse. Was full time then after I had Ds dropped my hours to part time and then when he started school asked for term time and it was approved. I realise I am very lucky

anon51 · 27/12/2021 21:40

You don't always need experience to be a ta. Google your local authority school jobs and they will all come up under one website where you can apply
