WFH call centre jobs. Where can I find one?

For over 20 years I had been a nurse. Increasingly it was effecting my MH.

When my last DC became financially independent in the summer of 2019 I took bank work to give me space to think about what to do next for a career.

Then Covid happened. I had all of my vaccinations. Still, the first time I caught it I had 10 days of flu-like symptoms. The second time I caught it I was hospitalised and left with life-changing symptoms.

Now, I don't want to be a nurse and I physically can't be a nurse.

I'm looking for a WFH call centre job, Customer Service, Entry Level Admin etc.

I live in the south, not near a city (which is why I want to WFH). I'm looking at minimum wage and slightly more if that's achievable. Where can I find a job like this?

I'm fed up with calling agencies who tell me that I don't need customer service skills to be a nurse .

Please can you help?

There was a company called Sensee that did this - try googling them and see if they're still going. They had contracts with photobox and some insurance places.
Sorry to hear you were so poorly xx

If I could find a job to match my nursing salary I would be off in a heart beat

Thegreencup · 08/12/2021 18:27

If you lived near me OP in NE Wales, you could get a job at Iceland. They have been advertising just this kind of job.

OneFootintheRave · 08/12/2021 18:33

Hi. Sorry you were so unwell.

Why not try looking for work as a call/claim handler for a private health insurance company. They all need some level of healthcare knowledge so you certainly should not be looking at entry level. Maybe as far as learning their systems and procedures but you are actually highly qualified so don't undersell yourself.

Capgemini UK have lots of WFH call centre jobs. Countrywide I believe though they are opening up a big centre in Scotland.

Have you thought about 111?
It’s not work from home but wouldn’t get you call centre experience.

mayblossominapril · 08/12/2021 19:08

WOuld not wouldn’t

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 08/12/2021 19:10

Try the major banks. You'd probably have to do training onsite initially but many of their call centres have moved to a WFH model for competent staff.

Thank you INeedSixEggs I'm going to have a good cry and then take a look.

Thegreencup damn. That is exactly what I'm looking for. That's a shame, but thank you.

I know @bellalou1234 when I look back on it, even without Covid, nursing has become markedly so much worse over the years. I would never recommend anyone start it now.

If it helps (it won't) the only reason that I can afford such a huge pay cut, is that both of my parents died. I paid off my mortgage with the money I inherited. I'd swap the mortgage in the blink of an eye just to spend another month to with them.

Nationwide Building Society are recruiting. WFH or office, or a combination. Also flexi time and part time options.

NoJobHugeWorries · 08/12/2021 19:17

month with them

Have a look at NHS England, Health Education England, 111 providers. Lots of jobs are now home based and would compliment your clinical skills.

freshcarnation · 08/12/2021 19:18

Hastings Direct

Snowinsummer · 08/12/2021 19:19

Customer service call handler for emergency travel insurance medical needs. Or try Healix.

NoJobHugeWorries · 08/12/2021 19:23

Thank you everyone. I'm looking into every tip and suggestion.

That's a great pointer MrsFin, Nationwide's offices - I think their main office - is in Swindon, which is not close enough for me to commute to, but is not so very far from where I live.

MrsFin · 08/12/2021 19:29

That's right, the HQ is Swindon, though they have call centres in N England and Scotland too.

Nationwide was the first financial institution to publicly announce that the majority of colleagues can work from wherever they want now and
most call centre colleagues are wfh these days.

If you apply and you get an interview - go overboard about how you love the fact it's a mutual and they have members, not customers.

NoJobHugeWorries · 08/12/2021 19:30

At the risk of sounding like an ungrateful cow, I really don't want to do 111 or anything similar. In any environment I have nursed in 111 has a bad reputation. Just thinking about staying in medicine makes me reenact Munich's The Scream.

Private medical might be a good shout because it will be more varied than 111.

OP posts:
NoJobHugeWorries · 08/12/2021 19:31

Ok, members not customers. Gotcha, thank you.

MrsFin · 08/12/2021 19:31

PS - 90% of Nationwide jobs, outside of branch roles, are location agnostic now - so you might like to look at other roles too, not just CC.

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 08/12/2021 19:34

I'm fed up with calling agencies who tell me that I don't need customer service skills to be a nurse

Just as an aside, I'd have thought nursing would give you excellent customer service skills! Can't believe agencies are saying that. Mr Ranty on the end of the phone is nowhere near as bad as Mr Ranty face to face.

Skysblue · 08/12/2021 19:45

Sorry this happened to you. I hope you feel much better soon.

Maybe a job answering calls for 111? There are ads for home working if you google that.

Or if you prefer a total change for anything NHS (understandable!) I’d suggest insurance company claims handling.

Hollyhead · 08/12/2021 19:47

Vax I think have their call centre totally at home now - we’ve recruited some of their employees from there who left because they didn’t want to be home based.

NMC2022 · 08/12/2021 19:49

Car dealerships often have staff WFH
Like VW etc, and bonus is pretty decent

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 08/12/2021 20:07

By coincidence I just heard a recruitment ad on the radio for Thames Water - they have offices in Swindon and their website mentions WFH opportunities, so could be worth a look OP.
