website experts - help- who's is right?

hi can I get some advice please on how to get 3x canva (like powerpoint) presentations up on a website? it sounds so simple but according to our marketing manager it's really not!

I am not an expert in this by any means and am struggling, new to company, I told them in the interview I had no expertise in the area of IT. they employed me for my knowledge.

mktng mngr suggested after I made the presentations I 'broadcast' them via gotowebinar as a pre recorded session. fine, I searched and found you can capture participants details which is great as our sponsors want those. then I liaise with mm to put them up. total silence then I push for it and...

omg the fuss!! 'what about analytics? branding? tracking? beats? how long are they? to the last second?"
basically fussing and obstacles everywhere. ceo backs her up over analytics, and a quiz is suggested in the presentations so we can see how many people have engaged, otherwise apparently they might register without watching. Hmm

so: 1. can canva do quizzes? 2. whats the best way to get 3 humble presentations on the Web.

  1. why is our website so constrictive that we can't put anything up there apparently without incurring a huge cost according to mm?

backstory is mm had been resistant all through to my role (training) as its not on-brand in her opinion.

also, worse, the ceo wants to use this as a testbed for whether to invest significantly in something similar next year, but with fancier software and the success of this part will influence their decision.

the mm has said she wants no part of this potential activity of the choose to invest.

I can't see a way through right now.

sorry, if they choose to invest

can't you just use the File/Save as option and choose html?

KittenKong · 30/09/2021 07:46

What is the site built in?

KittenKong · 30/09/2021 07:48

You can run a GoToWebinar (just do a screen share of the presentation) and remember to set it to record. You can edit it there and download the file, then add it to the site. Wordpress can be a bit arsey, but if you can tweak the code...

Frequency · 30/09/2021 07:48

I find it simple but someone with limited experience might not. The code itself is easy.

You'll need to put the image in the site's file directory and then insert using them source tag i.e

Alt - the text that shows if the image fails to load.

I'd look at courses on Udemy rather than Canva. It's HTML5 you want to learn, assuming the site isn't hosted on Wordpress or the like which is easier if using the drag and drop consumer side but more complicated if you're coding the basis/theme of the site.

Stovetopespresso · 30/09/2021 07:49

@ifailed you'd think wouldn't you!! like "hi here is the presentation, click here' but apparently noooooo

interesting, I've so far just uploaded the canva. I don't think it's WordPress, how do I find out?

like "hi here is the presentation, click here' but apparently noooooo

Unless it's Wordpress it is way more complicated than that but it shouldn't cost more than a few hundred to hire a freelancer.

KittenKong · 30/09/2021 07:55

Can you see that dashboard for the back end? Who built it for you?

KittenKong · 30/09/2021 07:56

You can do little videos on canva these days (just thinking out loud...)

Stovetopespresso · 30/09/2021 07:56

@Frequency on reflection maybe I should re-frame my question, would this be my role or the mm's? should I tell her what you said or do it myself? in other words, is it simple or easy, is mm right that it's hard? sorry I not tech savvy. should I really redo them all on udemy? mm away right now, I would be stumbling round in the dark.

OP posts:
Stovetopespresso · 30/09/2021 07:57

@KittenKong I like canva and have made friends with it, have been enjoying their video function.

OP posts:
Stovetopespresso · 30/09/2021 07:58

@KittenKong the back end and dashboard is a secret known only to the mm.

OP posts:
Stovetopespresso · 30/09/2021 07:59

@Frequency we have the Web people who built it for us on hand buy every time it's a huuuuge deal.
sounds like I need to get mm on board earlier next time

You have some good marketing people - any worthwhile "web expert" would say the same about the need for measuring success and engagement.

Depending on your platform's capabilities, one workaround could be to put it on YouTube as an unlisted video, then embed this on a page which people have to sign up to access. Then email a link to a feedback poll or something afterwards.

You can then see Google Analytics for how long people have viewed the video and page for, and try to measure understanding in follow up emails?

Stovetopespresso · 30/09/2021 08:00

but

KittenKong · 30/09/2021 08:02

If the marketing bod is responsible for the site - ask them what file format they need.

KittenKong · 30/09/2021 08:04

You can also do a clicky link to GoToWebinar recording (this also has a reg to view function).

We found that if people went off to YouTube to watch something they’d wander off when the ‘next video’ starts playing... (there is a way of stopping this but I forget how to do that!)

Frequency · 30/09/2021 08:05

It would be your coding/web design team's role (again assuming it is not Wordpress, which if you have dashboard you can upload content from without having to code it sounds like Wordpress or some variation of - in which case it would probably be your social media team's role).

How simple it is depends on how the site is written/hosted. HTML5/CSS3 you would need some coding experience. Wordpress you literally just drag and drop from the dashboard.

I misunderstood your question on Canva. I thought you were planning on using Canva quizzes to learn how to code. Udemy is an education platform. Canva is definitely the right place to create quizzes/presentations.

Stovetopespresso · 30/09/2021 08:32

OK thanks everyone. @Frequency it's not WordPress so yes does this mean it's going to cost every time anything needs to be changed????
@kittenKong if I had to use canva but gtwebimar to access it would the quizzes still work and would the answers get registered? it's it's mystery to me whether the Web designers we are using (the websites still new) can let us have access to the back end.
if you were me what would you tell the mm needs to be done?

OP posts:
Stovetopespresso · 30/09/2021 08:34

@KittenKong whhhy is it it such a bug deal for the mm to do a click link? I don't get it.
also how can you tell whether someones viewed the vid or not (quite frankly I don't care) hence the qu about quizzes.

OP posts:
KittenKong · 30/09/2021 08:37

If there is a click through, then you can capture the details of who views it - it’s useful to track details rather than just numbers. I’ve not down a q&a flow for ages (it has to be coded). Maybe a short presentation and something like a Mailchimp survey?

Stovetopespresso · 30/09/2021 08:46

thanks @KittenKong this is so above my pay grade AND NOT what I was employed to do!!

I wish mm could be more helpful rather than belting out questions all the time!

OP posts:
Frequency · 30/09/2021 08:50

Yes, it will cost every time you want something changed. How much depends on the scope of the work. Adding a link on an existing page to an external site such as GoTo or YouTube is a few minutes work. Most web designers would do this free if you'd already paid for an entire website.

Coding in an entire presentation with functionality to track participation is a good few hours work and would cost a good few hundred at a minimum.

They can allow you access to the back end, as in it is possible, whether they should or not depends on your experience. A website written entirely in HTML/CSS without an end user friendly back end requires code to change anything even just a simple change of font would require basic knowledge of code.
