hi can I get some advice please on how to get 3x canva (like powerpoint) presentations up on a website? it sounds so simple but according to our marketing manager it's really not!

I am not an expert in this by any means and am struggling, new to company, I told them in the interview I had no expertise in the area of IT. they employed me for my knowledge.

mktng mngr suggested after I made the presentations I 'broadcast' them via gotowebinar as a pre recorded session. fine, I searched and found you can capture participants details which is great as our sponsors want those. then I liaise with mm to put them up. total silence then I push for it and...

omg the fuss!! 'what about analytics? branding? tracking? beats? how long are they? to the last second?"
basically fussing and obstacles everywhere. ceo backs her up over analytics, and a quiz is suggested in the presentations so we can see how many people have engaged, otherwise apparently they might register without watching. Hmm

so: 1. can canva do quizzes? 2. whats the best way to get 3 humble presentations on the Web.

  1. why is our website so constrictive that we can't put anything up there apparently without incurring a huge cost according to mm?

backstory is mm had been resistant all through to my role (training) as its not on-brand in her opinion.

Just go and dump it on the desk of your marketing direction... that’s what everyone does to me!

If your new role will involve a lot of uploading to the website it would be worth asking for the site to be converted to WordPress or to ask the devs to develop a user friendly back-end so you can upload things yourself. If what you want to do will require regular extensive changes to your company's website then hiring a web developer will be more cost effective than paying an external company anytime you want to change something.

I'm surprised they're not using WordPress already, it's the choice for most smaller companies who can't or don't want to hire their own team of web devs. WP development has come a long way. You can buy or commission your own theme to make your site unique and then continue to update your site with minimal IT skills.

What size company are we talking about here?

You've mentioned Canva so people have presumed small, unless I've missed you mentioning it... but you've also said it's not Wordpress and has developers; and that the marketing team wants tracking and stats, which has me wondering if it's actually a bigger company?

If they've got quite a sophisticated marketing and website pattern, Canva wouldn't be typical to use for presentations... it's fantastic for small businesses but can't do quizzes or provide much in the way of stats; and it's not massively secure in terms of displaying it - you either link to the presentation but then direct people away from your website to Canvas, or you embed the presentation but that can be a security risk.

They've asked some good questions; to be fair to them, and you'll be able to show much better ROI for your work if you can show how many people signed up/watched/view percentages etc. It might be worth getting some time with the marketing manager and tech people to see if they have a preferred tool for this?

@TakeYourFinalPosition the company is small but growing, and was much larger, recently had to downsize.
I'd love to dump this on her desk @KittenKong but that would mean mm giving me the time if day which ain't the case.
imo swooping in at near-completion stage asking about tracking etc is very annoying as she's not so far offered any help, maybe that's my real problem?

mm knew I was using canva dmfor example, and I asked her about branding etc but she was quite rude and I only discovered they had the pro version of canva after 6 weeks of struggling with the free version. she's unhappy and overworked and her answer is to tell me ti ask her boss to give her more 'people'. I have mentioned that imo she was struggling after she was rude to a senior m of staff in another meeting ("when do you think web developers will do xyz?" her answer: " I dont know, I don't work for them").
let's hope mm has a lovely holiday and comes back willing to be more helpful!
