Need advice! So frustrated with new job I applied for!!

I got a job offer from a company i applied for and they told me they we're interested in me and that I should drop by to bring in my paperwork so they can send them to HR to get me started.
I told them I'm busy with my current job but when I I get a chance I will come and bring them.

So the same day I handed my notice to my current employer and today is my actual last day.

I texted my new employer Yesterday and said can I stop by on Friday morning (Today) to give you the paper work you asked for?

And she replied back and said No unfortunately and I will not be avaliable Saturday or Sunday or Monday.

I replied back and said OK so when will be the best time to come? Maybe Tuesday? And I never heard back and it's been over 24 hours. I literally don't know what I should do since I quit my current job to accept this one. I feel like she is blowing me off. Can someone please advise me?

Retract your notice.
They haven’t actually given you a contract of employment have they Confused.

SMSGN · 16/07/2021 04:32

No they didn't only verbally, that's why they asked me to go in and to sign a contract. I feel like they are messing me around. I just don't get it.

Did they say 'interested in you'? As that's not a verbal offer!

I'm always surprised when people resign without seeing their employment contract. What if there's something in your contact you're not happy with?

Pepperama · 16/07/2021 04:41

If you told me you were too busy to come in to sort paperwork and you'd drop by at an unspecified time, I'd assume you're not that keen and find someone else.

PhilCornwall1 · 16/07/2021 04:53

I told them I'm busy with my current job but when I I get a chance I will come and bring them.

So, you told them this, quit your current job and have had no formal job offer and signed a contract.

I'd be seeing if you could retract your resignation or start looking for a new job very quickly.

MoonlightWanderer · 16/07/2021 04:58

My advice is to phone them ASAP. It does sound like wires may have been crossed, but playing text tennis isn’t helping anyone. Call and apologize for any misunderstanding and hopefully sort it all out. She may just be genuinely busy with something atm.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 16/07/2021 05:32

How long ago did you give your notice? If you're only just now suggesting times to bring your paperwork in you must have been sitting on this for a while? Maybe they assumed you were no longer interested in the position? How did you think you were going to start a new job without having your paperwork in order?

SMSGN · 16/07/2021 05:33

I used to work for this company a few years back so I'm aware of their policies anyway and they told me that they want to re hire me and that when I can to come in to fill the paper work but now all of a sudden they are not avaliable Confused

You shouldn’t have handed in your notice until you had signed the contract with the new company. Did you get a formal offer letter?

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 16/07/2021 05:37

When did they offer you the job? How long ago?

crumble82 · 16/07/2021 05:39

From what you’ve said (and I might have misunderstood) they didn’t actually offer you a job. I think you need to speak to someone on Tuesday, explain the whole situation and apologise for not being in touch earlier. You might get lucky and they have something for you still, especially if they contacted you first. If I was them I would have though you weren’t keen though. I hope it all works out.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 16/07/2021 05:42

Surely if you're offered the job you try to get all the paperwork to them ASAP. If you've already worked your notice then presumably its been a month at least?

You shouldn't have resigned without getting a formal offer in writing. Do you know if the new company has asked for your reference from.your old manager? If not then I suspect that there's no longer a job for you.

SMSGN · 16/07/2021 05:44

@Tibtab I wish I didn't now, but I was really confident about the job. She even asked me if I could start immediately and I said I will need to give a weeks notice.

@CloseYourEyesAndSee I interviewed on Friday, she basically told me there and then that I got the job. She wanted to give me a few days to think about the offer and to give her an answer. So I called her on Monday Morning and said I'm interested if its still available and she was like yes I'm so happy you called as we want you. I told her I was going to give my notice. She said she needed to talk to the regional manager first and she's be in contact, she contacted me again on Tuesday and said to bring in my paper work to get me started. But I said unfortunately I can only come Friday morning to bring in my paperwork. I feel like maybe they're annoyed that it's taken so long for my paperwork but if I'm working. What can I do.

OP posts:
CloseYourEyesAndSee · 16/07/2021 05:56

So you only have to give a week's notice? Why on earth did you give it before you had a start date at the new job??

SMSGN · 16/07/2021 06:04

@CloseYourEyesAndSee We agreed that Monday 19th July would be my start date. That's why I asked to come in on Friday morning to get all my paperwork sorted but she's telling me Unfortunately she's unavailable Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. That's why I'm not sure what to do. She hasn't responded. I can't really just show up if a manager isn't present.

SMSGN · 16/07/2021 06:06

@CloseYourEyesAndSee It's really one big mess Sad I feel like I shouldn't have to chase them up. They should be on top of things.

MoonlightWanderer · 16/07/2021 06:38

You really do need to pick up the phone and sort it all out.

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 16/07/2021 06:39

The rule is: don’t resign your old job until you have a written offer and acceptance from your new job.

Uramaki · 16/07/2021 06:42

Are you doing this all by text? I think you need to try phoning.

Uramaki · 16/07/2021 06:43

And if it's only a week notice then you should have waited until the new job was sorted really.

Spandang · 16/07/2021 06:54

So basically, she was excited to have you, and you couldn’t do when she wanted to do. But now you’re pissed off that she can’t do when you want to do?

I mean…come on. She might be busy, she might have asked to do it immediately because she knew she’d be unavailable/on leave/on holiday/whatever.

It smacks of ‘I’m busy, you jump for me’ and it’d get my back up to be honest especially over text.

HeReWeGoAgAiN1112 · 16/07/2021 06:58

What level of role is this op?
In the kindest possible way, this is on you, not them.

I think that in your scenario I would have posted or emailed copies over. Then have taken in originals if still required. Presumably if you've worked there in recent years they have all this on file anyway, unless it's dbs or similar?

bonfireheart · 16/07/2021 07:50

Can you retract your current notice?
