How much do you earn

Have previously come across a similar thread on another forum and it was so interesting! Basically people commented with their job, age and how much they earn. I hate my job/industry and feel it doesn't pay well like I was led to believe but also feel I have no idea what's out there career/job wise and how much various jobs would earn so what I could do.

I'm 27, a solicitor in Scotland and earn £35k

£25k Furlough - thank you Rishi

Bulblasagnes · 28/01/2021 08:25

Mid-30s, in house lawyer, total comp around £180k, London. Love my job, never screwed anyone (in all sense of the word) to get to where I am, got lucky with a few good career moves along the way that led me to current job. Sometimes I work long hours and sometimes I do a few and I’m done. Very flexible. I have kids and it was tough for a few years but life is good now. It’s possible - tell your daughters!

Supermarket Cashier Full time £18k

Octopus37 · 28/01/2021 08:33

Freelance merchandiser and web content evaluator - this year about £11,000, work part-time. TBH feel a bit ashamed writing that down, but I'm doing a copywriting course.

Dontwanttooutmyself · 28/01/2021 08:34

all this tells me that I'm either under-selling myself or that I'm in the wrong career.

Very interested in the HR salaries. I had to recruit in my previous role, and every viable candidate (and some of the non-viable candidates) was asking for salaries about 30% above the top of the salary band for that role. The only way I could get this increased was to get someone in HR to make a case to show that the market rate had changed and get HR director approval. And guess what, no-one in HR was interested as we were such a small department, they were happy to leave me a person short for 8 months. I bet your bottom dollar that wouldn't have happened in HR. Pretty pissed off about HR salaries to be honest.

Part-time teacher (middle leader), 41, £31k, 3 days per week. Love my job, even at the moment.

Oblomov20 · 28/01/2021 08:37

Wow. Shocked at some of the salaries.

Sparechange · 28/01/2021 08:37

How do you think they found mumsneter addresses to send swat teams at the time of the Jeffrey hack?

Didn't they sent the swat attack to JustineMN, and presumably they got her address from Companies House..?

Acidrain · 28/01/2021 08:37

Age 27, Sales 35k-40k

Sootybear · 28/01/2021 08:38

None of my friends earn more than about £30,000. We are all in our 40's, 50's live in the SE, and have a variety of jobs, teaching, local council, self employed, etc . We've all got degrees etc and not all of us had children, so not sure where all these well paid jobs are and how you get one.🤷

user1494050295 · 28/01/2021 08:39

HE fundraiser £60k

cathybates · 28/01/2021 08:40

42, non-client facing lawyer, 28 hours a week flex, 64k plus pension and bonus and not UK so low tax
Could easily be earning 130-140k plus large bonus if went back to proper lawyering but have young kids and quite frankly, can’t be arsed with the stress or politics

PontefractFake · 28/01/2021 08:44

Echobelly · 28/01/2021 08:44

SoUmmYeah · 28/01/2021 08:44

@Dontwanttooutmyself
In my 20-ish years experience in banking and financial services, HR are always the worst department, bordering on corrupt

The examples I've seen of them fudging salary bands to help out their 'mates' in the companies, take corporate hospitality kickbacks from headhunters that would be totally banned in front office from suppliers, manipulating the disciplinary process depending on how much they like or dislike the person
And if there is an office extramarital affair going on, it's nearly always involving someone from HR

In my last company, they were nicknamed Human Remains, for good reason. The way (female) HR people treated other women in particular was shitty

It takes a certain type of person to seek it out as a career, especially in my sector. The high salaries are only hush money, not because they are ever particularly smart or competent

GappyValley · 28/01/2021 08:46

Head of comms and marketing for a investment company
£130k basic, £200k including bonus in a good year (no idea what it will be this year though...)
