Dd boss over Corona

whenwillthemadnessend · 24/01/2021 20:02

My dd boss has called them into office and told them they can either

Go redundant
Go on furlough
Or come into office

They are NOT allowed to work form home

It's a charity and in no way are they key workers They could work for home they are just not allowed.

What can they do?

SnowFields · 24/01/2021 20:07

They don’t need to be key workers to have to go into the office. It’s only “wfh if you can”. How long has your DD worked there?

YesMeLady · 24/01/2021 20:09

What sort of work do they do for the charity

LawnFever · 24/01/2021 20:11

What kind of work do they do? Did they work to from home in the previous lockdown, have covid provisions been made in the office re social distancing etc?

flowery · 24/01/2021 20:41

What can they do? What’s the concern
exactly? Does your daughter not feel safe in the office?

alexdgr8 · 24/01/2021 20:44

the best she can do is take furlough, if she really doesn't want go into office.
the boss is entitled to demand they work in their usual place.
she's lucky they have offered the furlough actually.
others give nothing at all.

whenwillthemadnessend · 24/01/2021 22:05

They just do admin. Fund raising calls etc. Organise events all web based now anyway.

The boss doesn't trust them and yes they worked at home last lockdown

One bloke in her office is currently in hospital with covid and still not allowed to work from home.

And the govt think it's those on walks spreading this Angry

OP posts:
Comefromaway · 24/01/2021 22:12

Employers are allowed to say staff must come in if they feel that employees are not as productive at home.

I’m in work every day doing admin.

Theunamedcat · 24/01/2021 22:14

Is the company covid safe though?

She can’t force her boss to let her work from home.

However she is within her rights to raise health and safety concerns and not to be penalised for that.

Does she have concerns of that nature?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 25/01/2021 08:52

I'm shocked more isn't being done by industry regulators to justify why staff aren't working from home.

Fair enough someone who cannot do this job from home (e.g. checkout in supermarket/pharmacist) but everyone who does admin should. Everyone who spends their day on calls or in virtual meetings should. Everyone who has 90% and above work done via email/teams etc should.

Regulators should be telling organisations to make wfh happen. And bosses saying productivity is down shouldn't be allowed to use that as an excuse. It's a life saving move. Productivity is important, but it's not the most important.

Apachepony · 25/01/2021 08:55

It’s hilarious and infuriating to see so many justifying the employers stance and yet if you dared to have coffee outside with a friend people would be criticising... what good worker bees. Employers doing this without real reason is why it keeps spreading.

whenwillthemadnessend · 25/01/2021 09:00

Last two posts finally on my page

We are crapping ourselves in a socially distant walk and there are businesses totally taking the piss and being unreasonable. 64 of them in an office im sorry but it's not on.

No wonder numbers are still high everywhere and kids can't get back to school until they come down more.

Govt are blaming the wrong people. They need to get harder on workplaces.

OP posts:
HermioneWeasley · 25/01/2021 09:02

What steps have they taken to make the office Covid safe?

StacySoloman · 25/01/2021 09:04

These businesses should be getting £10000 fines Angry
When is the government going to get tough on employers?

Speaking for myself, it’s not about justifying it. Obviously if they can work from home they should be. But there’s no legal basis for her to insist on it.

But employers shouldn't be allowed to say this.

Friend's dd has just joined the civil service before Christmas - she is not allowed to wfh for 6 months - just because that's the way it's done - maybe the Gov should look to themselves too!
movingonup20 · 25/01/2021 16:03

The problem is that some people did not work effectively from home back last spring/summer. Employers don't want to single out the individual (s) who thus is the case for so as long as they have the space for social distancing in the office, it's a more diplomatic option to have everyone in and doesn't show favouritism either. Only 1 person complained about going into dp's work, they would be the one who had almost no productivity on wfh days from March to when they went back in full time in June.

It's not easy with these decisions, I go to work and have mostly throughout, I have my own office so demanding to wfh is not justified

MrsMercedes · 25/01/2021 16:09

They are taking steps to minimise those in the office though?

Parsley1234 · 25/01/2021 16:12

@JustWatchMe I just joined the civil service for the DWP and we had a very clear letter last Friday week stating if we weren’t working from home why not ? I’m surprised at your friends child that isn’t the message we have had - I am within the 6 months probation

Plussizejumpsuit · 25/01/2021 16:14

Well I'd go on furlough. But this is exactly the sort of thing the government need to do more about. Arse holes making staff come in to work.

Bargebill19 · 25/01/2021 16:16

Northamptonshire council and police are both asking for employees to report such behaviour. Treated anonymously.
Can your DD do that?

PregnantGotCovid · 25/01/2021 16:33

Report them to hse. This is one of the big reasons the virus is spreading so much.

user1487194234 · 25/01/2021 18:51

She cannot insist on working from home
That’s just the way it is
If she feels it’s not COVID safe she could report but I am sure I read there had been 1000s of reports and no action taken
A lot of employers want their staff in the office to maximise productivity,so the business doesn’t go bust leaving everyone out of a job
