My dd boss has called them into office and told them they can either

Go redundant
Go on furlough
Or come into office

They are NOT allowed to work form home

It's a charity and in no way are they key workers They could work for home they are just not allowed.

What can they do?
@JustWatchMe I just joined the civil service for the DWP and we had a very clear letter last Friday week stating if we weren’t working from home why not ? I’m surprised at your friends child that isn’t the message we have had - I am within the 6 months probation
Might be grade or grad scheme she is on. I was really quite surprised too but I have no reason to believe she wasn't being straight with me.

Will she reported them and the police told her there have been over 80,000 complaints regarding workplaces so that just goes to show the scale of this issue.

Reported them to the police? For them wanting her to go into the office?

daisychain01 · 26/01/2021 07:25

OP are any of the staff members of a Union? It's helpful for them to be involved because they can highlight specific concerns eg if the workforce are all expected to work in an office where there is insufficient ventilation and insufficient space to make social distancing viable.

A friend of mine who's a solicitor is having to work in the office, management have just made it a blanket "no wfh" policy which is ridiculous given that they are all just on the phone or working on their laptop. They don't even have a massive office so can't spread out easily. I'm sure there are many other organisations doing the same.

Reported them to the police for what? Confused

If there were genuine concerns about the workplace not being covid secure then a report to HSE might be appropriate, after raising with management, but not the police...

Employment law never looks to hinder the economic progress of an organisation, so if the company feels that it operates more effectively with people in the office, no law is going to stop them from insisting upon it. I think your daughter has been very lucky to have been offered furlough as one of the three options.

Reported them to the police
Now I have heard everything 😄

Bargebill19 · 26/01/2021 21:24

@user1487194234
Tbf our local police and the council are asking people to report business owners who do not operate within covid rules/laws direst to both the police and the county council. ‘‘Twas headline news yesterday.

partyatthepalace · 26/01/2021 21:41

Reality is lots companies need people to come in because they aren’t productive at home - your daughter may not perceive it like this, but her boss does - and we have to keep the economy going. She could try reporting it but it is probably pointless as it’s so subjective - and the fact the company is offering furlough as an option (which does cost employers money) means they must be pretty reasonable.

What concerns her about going into the office. Has her manager talked her through covid protocol? - if not, ask for that.

Maybe at some point the police will bring 80,000 wasting police time charges.
