My CV has made me look better than I am.

I have a job interview tomorrow based on the fact that I look just right for the job ‘on paper’. Which is true. On paper I do, in capability I am sure I am not. My current job title makes me sound like I do much more than I do and that’s the problem. I’ve not lied about anything whatsoever but it just sounds so much better than reality. For example; I produce invoices and chase debtors. What that means is I use the word template the company has had for years to make an invoice and I drop customers an email when they haven’t paid. Or diary management of the directors. What that means is I make appointments and scribble them in the book. How am I going to handle this? Be upfront and say sorry but my fancy job title has mislead you? I have thought I should perhaps change my cv going forward.

How was your first full week OP?

c1JSU · 03/07/2020 19:47

Thank you for asking! I felt sick with nerves nearly each morning and I’ve had a few doubts where I thought ‘this is not for me and I can’t do this’ but then today I felt like I was really starting to get an understanding of things. There is so much to learn and I can’t really remember how long it takes to settle into a job and find your feet. Most colleague seem lovely and helpful which is great.

Oh I’ve been wondering how you getting on @c1JSU, so I’m glad to hear that it felt a little more comfortable today. Remember, it’s very early days, you’ve only been there a week, though it probably feels a lot longer!

Added to that, these are strange and difficult times, so everything is going to be a bit more complicated than normal. Nice to hear that the other workers are friendly, as that always helps. Give yourself a few months to settle down, don’t make any rash decisions, especially in these uncertain economic times.

If you feel able, why not go through any notes you’ve made, or company training manuals, and think about what might be happening next week, any problems or questions you’ve got etc. But don’t get in a tizzy mind! Wink
Lots of luck for next week! Thanks

Thank you! I actually have pages and pages of notes which I intend to go over this weekend!
