Silver shoes for interview??

Hi there,

I've applied for several NHS jobs and have some fabulous navy wide-legged trousers (cost an arm and a leg!) and a navy and white blouse. Do you think I could get away with these at interview as I like to be a little different and they're also something I would wear day-to-day if I don't get any of the jobs.

I wore silver Dr Marten shoes to my last job interview.

I've been in the role for a year now. Grin

As someone who interviews a lot I'd say that quirky in one part of the outfit can be good. If you have interview 15 people it's helpful to think of 'silver shoe lady'. Quirky can put some people off though is the risk and if you aren't sure you don't want to be thinking about it whether it was okay. In many ways wearing trousers you won't see much of them. One thought might be to head to the supermarket and buy just cheap ballet shoes or brogues - Asda have some for £6. New cheap shoes usually look just fine. Only wear them for interviews. Buy yourself the lovely silver pair to wear other times. Good luck.

I would wear navy blue brogues

Thank you NWQM :-)

That's the thing rosinavera - wearing fabulous shoes gave me confidence! Grin

Although in the interests of fairness I should confess that I work in IT and I'm sequestered in a data centre all day, so I never see hide nor hair of the public!

rosinavera · 16/10/2018 09:40

That's what I think too TheRattleBag (I feel awkward calling you that!) but I think I'll have to be a little more conservative than you and wear some silver brogues! ;-)

By the way.......can anyone tell me how to add an emoticon??

I would wear the silver boots you first posted - with long trousers it will only be the toes that show.

rosinavera · 16/10/2018 10:20

Thanks Pieceofpurplesky! :-) Do you also like these?

I've ordered these and will make the decision when they get here - I may be heading to the supermarket as you suggested earlier in the thread! :-0
