Finding Au pairs without using agencies.

Has anyone been successful in recruiting an au pair without using an agency. We have always used an agency but the fees are extortionate for what they actually do. In some cases the applicants did not fit the criteria and we ended up waiting ages.

Any advice on the pros and cons please.

I've read ALL of the response from that thread ~(which you are obviously familiar with) and whilst I have never in my life been so offended by so many WHOM I DON'T EVEN KNOW, it seems that some of the peopl on this site are in fact human. So I thought I'd just take note of who are and are not my friends.
