I dread going to work every day now!!! I'm desperate to find a new career but I wonder if I'm being unrealistic and if everyone hates going to work but just get on with it. Do any of you REALLY love going to work and if so what do you do?

OP posts:
Moanyoldcow · 13/08/2017 19:01

'Love' might be pushing it, but I like work and never have a 'oh god, not this shit again' morning.

I've felt like you do and that's definitely time to move on.

BossyBitch · 13/08/2017 19:05

Yes, I love it! I'm in technology consulting, lower to middle management level. I run large software projects for big firms.

In terms of what's needed: I have a BEng in software engineering, an MSc in computer science and an MBA, but I only had the first of these when I started out as a junior analyst.

Gorgosparta · 13/08/2017 19:09

I love my job as much as you can love a job. If i won the lottery and had millions in the bank, i probably wouldnt do it. But i do love it.

Project managment for one of the uks biggest companies in their customer service division.

Gorgosparta · 13/08/2017 19:10

Oh and to get it, i didnt do anything. I was askes to take on some projects as part of my role and then got drafted in on a permanent basis.

I am now doing nvq in project managment. Then will be doing more qualifications.

TheLuminaries · 13/08/2017 19:13

I like my job and my colleagues but hate my commute. I guess 2 out of 3 ain't bad. I don't want to move while my youngest is still at school, but if I could reduce my commute my job would be pretty much perfect.

BossyBitch · 13/08/2017 19:15

So that would be 100% of happy respondents with named roles in project management related roles so far. Not that a sample of 2 plus an incomplete is statistically sound ... Grin

WhichJob · 13/08/2017 19:15

I used to have a job I love but now I dread going to work like you do. Sad I think if I moved companies it might be better but there aren't many employers in my area for my role.

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 13/08/2017 19:17

I design skyscrapers and museums. I love it, but it takes about 8 years to get professionally qualified (including an MEng)

Gorgosparta · 13/08/2017 19:19

Yep that provesbit. Project managment must be the best job. The survey says so Wink

PattyPenguin · 13/08/2017 19:19

I don't enjoy my work, I endure it.

I have bills, I have dependents.

ChrisPrattsFace · 13/08/2017 19:22

i love my job... but hate everything that comes with it. commute, colleagues, social interaction with people regularly, horrific pay for long hours Grin

StealthPolarBear · 13/08/2017 19:23

Yes I work in public health statistics. Read up about my job when I'm not in work

IAmTheDragon · 13/08/2017 19:27

I love the work but the people are twats.

Moanyoldcow · 13/08/2017 19:32

I forgot to say what I did! Sorry - I'm Finance Manager for an Independent School.

DrHarleenFrancesQuinzel · 13/08/2017 19:34

Nope I dont love it. I can cope with it, but I dont love it. Ive had worse and Ive had better. My CV isn't looking too great ATM with lots of temp jobs over the last couple of years so Im sticking this one out for another 15 months (not that Im counting) to make it 2 years.

My problem is though, that I just dont know what I want out of a job. I haven't a clue what I want to be now Im grown up.

I can't say why I dont like my job, I just know that Im not as happy as I have been in others. Im 38 and if I could Id quite happily retire tomorrow.

Why are all the good jobs temp until they move the work to another country?

ZooLanePetCorner · 13/08/2017 19:36

I do it testing/issue resolution, I like it most of the time. If you dread going to work day in, day out, you should look into making a change imo

BobbinThreadbare123 · 13/08/2017 19:40

I made a career change and really enjoy my job. The people are pretty good. I don't like my commute though, except for the lovely views I drive past.

ScrunchyBook · 13/08/2017 19:40

Yes I love my job, I'm an Air Traffic Controller.

In the past I've had jobs that I have dreaded going in for, it's not a nice way to live, plan your escape if you can

Ampersand1 · 13/08/2017 19:46

Absolutely hate it.
Initial three years of study
Then 2 degrees
When I started out 20 years ago I loved it
Now unbelievable pressure and stress
Mismanaged service
Zero job satisfaction
Once DS finished uni I am outta there!!

moomoogalicious · 13/08/2017 19:53

i like my job. i work from home me 2.5 days a week and the office is a 10 minute cycle away. people are nice too.

TroysMammy · 13/08/2017 20:03

I enjoy my job. I don't wake up with dread and an upset, nervous stomach like I had with a previous job. My job is non stop and can be frustrating but can be rewarding in equal measures. My commute is 2.5 miles and takes 10 minutes mainly because of speed bumps and traffic lights. My colleagues are great and we have lots of fun and the patients give us lots of chocolate, biscuits and cake. I'm a GP Receptionist.

Allyg1185 · 13/08/2017 20:11

Can take it or leave it if I'm honest

BlueWatersByTheSea · 14/08/2017 12:59

Currently hate the environment and am sucking at the actual job because I wake up in fear every monday. Hate it.

Dolceheater · 14/08/2017 17:45

I now work as a PA/OM. Survey's have said they can be the least satisfying jobs out there as everyone puts demands on you constantly. However, if you get the right fit: boss/team/hours/pay they can be just fine. To start out, you don't need a secretarial qualification (despite what old fashioned agencies might say) - just GCSE's/A Level's, some employers do like a degree if they want more from their PA + good computer, typing skills, at least 45wpm), be switched on, have the ability to remain unflustered and smile when the shit hits the fan. If you had no admin experience, temping is a good way to go, make an impression during, make contacts and get offered the role permanently. I've secured a few perm roles via temping (as I like to try before I buy ;-) when testing out something new. You can temp until you find the right fit/organisation starting at reception level, or as a junior PA. You get can paid well (+ good bonuses/bens) the more you progress. Identify what is causing you the dread now. For me, dread has usually stemmed from shitty colleagues or lack of culture, not bosses usually. When I feel under valued, I know it's time to shimmy on. Does it have to be a completely new career, or can you temp using your present skill set in a new field to try stuff out? Maybe secure something part time, leave and give yourself some thinking time to work it out or retrain - ALWAYS leave a company on good terms no matter how awful. Good luck!

Timefortea99 · 17/08/2017 21:58

I can't stand my colleagues, the work is boring and ultimately pointless, but the pay is good and I have lots of flexibility (WAH etc). I would leave in a heartbeat but my age is against me and I feel disillusioned with work. I now thing I would hate any job - I don't have a career so maybe if I did I would love it.
