My other thread about negotiating job offers got me thinking. I'm so terribly British I don't really know what even my friends are on. But I'm interested to find out what the average on here is and if mine fits in. So here's my salary history.

First job: £16k
Second job: £12k, left on £19k (took a pay cut for a more interesting job)
Third job: Started on £25k, leaving on £35k
New job: £38k

I'm in the media.

What's yours?

Heathen4Hire · 12/12/2016 22:21

Around £38k as an Underground station supervisor.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 12/12/2016 22:27

Started as a secretary at a university on £13k
Then clerical officer at council £15k
Training administrator for a charity £12k (part time)
Civil servant £22k, then promoted and on £26k, next promotion on £31k. Currently on £35k.

eggyface · 12/12/2016 22:38

'Bout 50k for 21-hour week

Lilybensmum1 · 12/12/2016 22:38

alazuli · 12/12/2016 22:40

OK, eggy what's your job and how do I get it? It's my dream to work part-time.

25k. I'm a scientist. Started on 20k 4 years ago fresh from university.

anyname123 · 12/12/2016 22:51

32k, nurse. Annual pay rises, good pension etc

PippaFawcett · 12/12/2016 22:53

£31k plus benefits which include free phone and a good pension.

But comparable jobs near me the salaries are £40k, but I am v tired at the moment and loathe to lose the flexibility of my current job.

NormHonal · 12/12/2016 22:55

First job after graduation: £17k
Second job: £20k - £24k
Third job: £30k stayed 10 years, rose to senior management, with bonus, £72k
Took an enforced career break and raised children.

Now: About £5k/year part-time. Fortunately we don't need my earnings to get by. If I'm lucky I will earn £25k/year full-time in my new career once I get established.

Wishforsnow · 12/12/2016 23:01

I'm perm but on 98k basic as a programme manager do get bonus and holidays, car etc. Most of the people that work for me earn more as I hire them as contractors. Can't decide if contracting may be the better route as all my people have worked for me for years

concretejungle · 12/12/2016 23:06

Low six figures. Lifestyle to match salary (mainly spent on private school for 2DC). Trapped by it all, however live by the decisions I've made. Not ungrateful, but regret not having a better work life balance.

Happyoutlook · 12/12/2016 23:11

In the UK £23k moved to the USA now on £50k for the same job. With 30% lower cost of living

OhTheRoses · 12/12/2016 23:19

2003, 7,500 part-time
2005, promotion and full-time abt £21k
2009, promotion abt £33k
Now: £55k

Retrained after DC in 40s.

itfcbabe · 13/12/2016 14:03

On an hourly rate so depending on hours and days I work between 17,000 and 20,000

CountryLovingGirl · 13/12/2016 22:50

What did you retrain as OhTheRoses?

£6K NHS Trainee position straight out of uni
£21K Once qualified
£35K now and at the top of the band 6 NHS pay scale with no where to go (as they are centralising services all over the place). I have more qualifications (and, probably experience) than our new band 8.

In my 40's and want out - fed up of the poor work life balance and frustration!

NapQueen · 13/12/2016 22:53

18k for 32 hours. Administration.

Cat0115 · 13/12/2016 22:56

L10 (49,000)Head of a large Dep/key subject. Teaching (20 year's).

Cat0115 · 13/12/2016 22:57

Argh. Rogue apostrophe!

LBOCS2 · 13/12/2016 22:57

£16.5k out of uni.
Moved industry - £14k plus commission. Probably around £19/20k all in.
Moved out of sales but same sector - £22k.
Changed companies, stayed for 5 years. Started on £23k, left on £33.5k.
Current employer - been there for 2 years. Started on £35k, now on £36.5 + car (or £4.5k car allowance), pension, healthcare, phone, flexible working.

I'm handing in my notice in Feb though.

Chickoletta · 13/12/2016 23:00

£25k for 3 days per week (teaching). Was on £42k before children as I was full time and middle management. Love my life now!

NickMarlow · 13/12/2016 23:00

Was at £22k full time Children's Minister in a church, went back part time after having dc, now on £13k. Top of my pay scale and no chance of promotion without relocating, but I love my job so staying put for now.

MazDazzle · 13/12/2016 23:04

Teacher. Top band. 35K.

ChampagneCommunist · 13/12/2016 23:04

£55k full time (& then some) solicitor. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone

IMissGin · 13/12/2016 23:08

21- £25k plus bonus
23 - £30k plus commission
25 - £40k plus commission
26/27- £50k plus commission
28 - £90k plus bonus (new job, new company)
29- £99k plus bonus

Agree with concrete, I realise how lucky I am but I feel very trapped in it.
