Having a blast while off sick

One of our colleagues has been off sick for weeks with stress issues. We all know she doesn't like her job and is planning on moving abroad early next year so the chances of getting her to come back in while she's on full pay are limited. The patience of her hard working colleagues is being tested to the limit as she pops in with her sick note and a cheery wave and smile. To top it all, she's now put her name down for the Christmas do. Is all this legal?

GPs do sign people off on slight evidence - why wouldn't they? Their duty is to the patient, not the employer. If someone doesn't want to go into work it is very easy to get signed off.

I have no idea whether the colleague in this case is taking the piss or not, but undoubtedly some people do.

Some people do....lots of people don't. I guess my comment would be why not err on the side of being kind and assume she is actually struggling?

....and this thread sums up pretty much why I tell no one about my MH issues.

Because I get bored of the "oh but you smile a lot" or "you always seem so happy" .

I had a near on break down a couple of months ago, my psychosis was returning. I went in to work because I couldn't face the aggro from my manager. Ironically I work for a company that "specialises in mental health" but there are too many insensitive, ill informed cunts like the OP around.

Seriously I’m on here looking for same advice for a colleague of mine who is off with stress and has been informed not to come to our night out by manager. He has contributed to our party fund all year and we want him there. Get a grip people it takes a lot of courage to walk into your work with a sick note maybe it’s there anxiety stress whatever that makes her all giggly and embarrassment as she knows what a bunch of judgmental people she works with it might take that person every ounce of strength to be brave enough to walk the gauntlet. Either support them or deal with your own work issues boils my blood that there’s no empathy for the fact they are ill not even anyone else’s business why they are off !

Juid it's staggering isn't it. Someone has to either have their leg in plaster or their head bound up like Pudsey Bear before the judgers decide it fits their criteria of "sick".

Oh, and they have to lock themselves in a dark room and never be allowed human contact with colleagues just to satisfy the few spiteful people who jump to accuse them of shirking. How mean.
