Pregnancy announcement shirts -What do you think?

happycatt · 22/09/2015 10:36

My boyfriend and I just started a business to help fellow ladies to announce their pregnancys in fun ways, take a quick look at the shirts let me know what you think about 'em. This has been a long time dream of mine. I've always wanted to make something fun to wear when pregnant, and even my my friends on FB loved the idea, many of them loved how exciting it would be to announce their pregnancy this way. So please just let me know what you think-it means a lot.

Lovely idea I don't like wearing things though that point out my pregnancy more than my bump already dies. And I find shirts like 'hands of the bump' sac very cheesy. Buy they are very pretty and hood luck

mummyneedinganswers · 22/09/2015 11:15

Etc* not sac

Hellohellohowareyou · 22/09/2015 11:22

The best husband one is a bit poor taste imho. What about couples who want a child but can't? Does that make him a bad husband?

Otherwise I like the others! Also what about tshirts for big brothers and sisters? We announced my second pregnancy by getting our son a tshirt saying 'I'm going to be a big brother!' We put him in it and waited to see how long it took people to notice!!

elQuintoConyo · 22/09/2015 11:22

Tacky.

The third t-shirt is very offensive to men (and couples) who have fertility problems.

Can't people just announce a pregnancy without a huge in-your-face song and dance?

I rang my parents (I'm abroad), and told friends face to face. Nothing on FB.

But I'm over 40, so what do I know?

NotTodaySatan · 22/09/2015 11:22

They're hideous.

Tacky, cheap and classless.

lighteningirl · 22/09/2015 11:23

Love the first two really don't like the third sorry

WorraLiberty · 22/09/2015 11:24

Sorry but they're totally naff imo.

Cringeworthy in fact.

Nice free advertising though Wink

Whatthefreakinwhatnow · 22/09/2015 11:24

I'm sorry, I find things like this really awful but I'm sure there are people out there who like this sort of stuff. Good luck with your venture.

Lottapianos · 22/09/2015 11:27

I'm sorry OP, I'm not your target market but I think they're awful. Completely agree with elQuinto that the third t shirt is highly offensive to people with fertility problems, and to childfree folk as well actually. However, there is a huge market for this kind of smug tacky fetishisation of pregnancy and parenthood so some people will love them

Paperblank · 22/09/2015 11:33

Not to my taste at all. I think the "Keep Calm" thing has been done to death and the third one as pp have said is cringe worthy.

It's horses for courses and I am sure that other people will love them.

DPotter · 22/09/2015 11:35

No.
Just No.
Sorry

happycatt · 22/09/2015 11:41

I don't see how its offensive to anyone. Any husband can become a daddy, unless you're all saying couples who adopt are not mothers and fathers, surely not? I think you're thinking too deeply into the wording and finding offence where there is none. Is the Nike tagline 'Just do it' offensive for those that can't do it? No.

Shes actually made about thirty different designs, including big brother/sister ones but i only included a couple on here.

I wish some of the replies in here were nicer. My girlfriend has poured her heart and soul into this but to be told 'nice free advertising' (go on, go and buy them, there is no link to where they are sold) and that they are hideous is disgusting. They may not be for you, thats fine, i know they are for a certain market but there is no need for the rude replies.

Pink one not so bad if you like that sort of thing, but I'd rather die than wear it.

Keep calm one awful. Keep calm has most definitely jumped the shark.

Husband one very tacky. My best male friend would love to be promoted to daddy, but unfortunately it's not meant to be for him. Would you produce a shirt that said only the best wives get promoted to mummy?

Shutthatdoor · 22/09/2015 11:53

Completely agree

poocatcherchampion · 22/09/2015 11:57

Not to my taste either and the third is plain offensive.

AuntieStella · 22/09/2015 11:59

If you only get 'nice' replies, rather than honest ones, you really won't know your potential market and over-optimists my is not a sound basis for a business.

I had rather assumed you had posted here for a cross section of what people really think, and would be likely to buy, rather than just for applause.

And yes, pregnancy is not necessarily something that is unmitigated joy. Ask anyone who has had, or is close to someone who has had, fertility problems, miscarriages, health scares or a stillbirth.

I wouldn't buy any of the t-shirts (though a I have a similar design to the first in a mug). The 'keep calm' is overdone, and I find the third insensitive so would not wear it myself.

Bubblesinthesummer · 22/09/2015 11:59

I seriously can't believe that you can't see that it is an issue! Comparing it to the Nike tag line just proves it more!

No any husband can become a daddy and not everyone can adopt either.

You are either being naive or deliberately offensive.

It causes huge heartache for people and that the shirt is basically saying you are less of a person unless you are a 'daddy'.

Kickedinthetits · 22/09/2015 12:00

I wouldn't wear one. I think they are quite tacky. But I'm sure some people would love then. And I agree that the third one could be seen as offensive. The point isn't whether you feel they could be offensive or not, is it? It's whether other people viewing them could be upset by it? And therefore you should take the comments on board rather than dismissing them simply because it isn't what you want to hear. You may wish to proceed with it and that's fine and at least you will have been prepared for similar comments in the future.

WorraLiberty · 22/09/2015 12:01

Look you did ask for honest opinions, so there's no point in getting arsey if people think they're a pile of wank.

Others will no doubt like them, as plenty of people have said.

Hellohellohowareyou · 22/09/2015 12:04

I don't think anyone is saying those who adopt aren't really parents, that's an assumption you've made. It's more people who have fertility problems and experienced stillbirth or miscarriages people were referring to.

I think people will buy the tshirts but maybe a little bit more market research than friends on FB is needed.

TPel · 22/09/2015 12:05

I'm not sure that MN is your target market.

PosterEh · 22/09/2015 12:08

They're not to my taste at all but I expect there is a market for them.

PosterEh · 22/09/2015 12:09

Agree the third one is awful.

moggle · 22/09/2015 12:09

Yes I don't like them and wouldn't buy them but if a friend specifically asked for opinions i would probably try and say something nice. I'm sure there is a market for them though. As someone who struggled to have a baby, my husband would have really been upset by the last t-shirt, sorry, whether you think we're being silly or not that's a fact.

SlinkyB · 22/09/2015 12:10

They're horribly tacky, and also agree with the Daddy one being insensitive. Plenty of husbands are amazing without the need to have kids (by whatever method).

Would never buy one, but hate slogan clothing of any description so doubt I'm your target customer anyway.
