Pregnancy announcement shirts -What do you think?

happycatt · 22/09/2015 10:36

My boyfriend and I just started a business to help fellow ladies to announce their pregnancys in fun ways, take a quick look at the shirts let me know what you think about 'em. This has been a long time dream of mine. I've always wanted to make something fun to wear when pregnant, and even my my friends on FB loved the idea, many of them loved how exciting it would be to announce their pregnancy this way. So please just let me know what you think-it means a lot.

Sorry but they are awful. Can't see anybody over the age of 20 wearing them.

mmmuffins · 22/09/2015 13:00

As someone said upthread, perhaps Mumsnet does not hold your target audience.

I would never wear any of these. I would never wear anything that referenced my pregnancy. I would never use the word "preggers." I think all of these are tacky.

And yes the "Only the best husbands get promoted to daddy" shirt is offensive.

PotatoGun · 22/09/2015 13:07

Your target market is probably the kind of person who self-describes as 'bubbly', had a 'kerrazzy' hen-party with penis-shaped straws, and is likely to think that posting a selfie wearing one of these on FB is a brilliant and original way to announce a pregnancy. Given that these people exist, I'm sure there are peoole who will buy your t-shirts, and the fact that I think they are irredeemably naff and juvenile is beside the point. But listen to people about the 'Best Daddy' one. It's incredibly insensitive, as well as plain inaccurate.

LooseSeal · 22/09/2015 13:09

I find the daddy one offensive. If I'd seen that when I had just had yet another miscarriage I would have felt like I'd been punched. I'm assuming your comments re adoption come from lack of knowledge about fertility issues, but it's not a case of "oh dear, I seem to be unable to conceive, never mind, I'll just pop down to the orphanage and adopt one of the hundreds of newborns they give away to anyone who wants one". Infertility is almost unbearably painful, and adoption isn't either avalible or possible for many.

There are also plenty of husbands (and wives to be fair) who have children but are far from the best. There are sadly all too many people who are utterly awful parents but still have children.

The rest of the t shirts are ok, but there are hundreds of similar items on the market. I think you'll struggle to make any kind of profit. I would suggest you visit a baby and toddler fare to see what kind of competition you'd have before you invest any money in having shirts printed.

GlacindaTheTroll · 22/09/2015 13:10

"Straight from a personalise your own t shirt website."

Yes, the clue's in the "customise it" that wasn't cropped out of the first pic on the thread. Hours of thought and care, or someone bored trying to test levels of gullibility?

tribpot · 22/09/2015 13:11

The daddy one is truly dreadful. You need to have some interest in feedback from potential customers, I think.

The others are not my thing but presumably you can test the market without making any large orders so it's fairly low risk. Have you considered how you would stop people who did actually like one of the designs from just ordering their own one direct from a t-shirt printing site?

eurochick · 22/09/2015 13:19

The daddy one is awful. It would have upset me when we were going through fertility treatment. The rest are just tacky, but I'm sure some people would buy them.

TelephoneIgnoringMachine · 22/09/2015 13:21

I don't like any of them. I'm not going to bother telling you why as a) previous posters have already given you a number of good reasons, some of which I agree with, b) which you then disagreed with & said they were basically wrong.

Of course, our opinions don't count for much. You've made that abundantly clear. I wonder why you bothered asking. Hmm

Murloc · 22/09/2015 13:22

Hideous.

I've got relatives who'd love them though and if they bought me one it would be used as a duster.

I struggle to believe that anyone's "heart and soul" went into designing them.

Bohemond · 22/09/2015 13:24

ugh

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 22/09/2015 13:30

Not my kind of thing at all. But then I'm in my 30s and I imagine your target market is a lot younger, although it might not be with the grandmother one? Perhaps try a local Facebook selling site?

Also I find maternity wear a pain in the arse getting a good fit so if you are starting a company you'd need it to be well fitting for pregnant women and a decent returns policy.

EchoesOfLeon · 22/09/2015 13:30

Wow.

So my husband that supported me through our fertility treatments and then through the loss of my pregnancy at 13 weeks just wasn't 'the best'. Could he have tried a bit harder in your opinion op? Since 'only the best husbands get promoted to daddy' ...

BathshebaDarkstone · 22/09/2015 13:31

The first 3 pregnancies I wore t-shirts that distracted from the bump because I was fed up with "are you pregnant?" constantly. Number 4 I bought a "Does my Bump Look Big in This?" t-shirt because I was fed up with having to ask for a seat on the bus! My point being, it's a great business idea, and good luck! Smile

Orange1969 · 22/09/2015 13:34

Nope.

Esp the husband one.

Just awful.

PurpleDaisies · 22/09/2015 13:36

Another voice adding to the do not sell that daddy one. The others are tacky and not to my taste but are the t shirt effectively saying that only husbands capable of procreating are worth anything is horrible.

For your "you can always adopt" comment you can have a Biscuit. Clearly you've never had trouble conceiving.

AsTimeGoesBy · 22/09/2015 13:38

Sorry, but I think they're awful too. Not just these particular designs but the whole concept.

Kickedinthetits · 22/09/2015 14:03

OP it doesn't matter whether or not you find it offensive! Other people do!

Theresaflyinmyhouse · 22/09/2015 14:16

They're so offensively bad it's hilarious.

I prefer the baby or pies one.

BowiesJumper · 22/09/2015 14:34

Not my thing!!

elQuintoConyo · 22/09/2015 14:41

IonaMumsnet does the Start-Up board resemble a dustbin? Pretty much where this thread belongs.

How about these:

I fucked a boy and I liked it.
Pwecious cargo onboard.
Product of hanky-panky.
Touch me here and I'll dropkick your ass.

I could be here all day Wink

Petridish · 22/09/2015 15:25

The thing I loathe about the modern trend for OTT pregnancy announcements is the bloody smugness.

Great! You've conceived! Have a fucking medal and a minging t-shirt with your big announcement on it

Petridish · 22/09/2015 15:26

I saw one with a Mr Man lady on it saying "Little Miss Pregnant". That's a cunt's game and no mistake.

Malinapalina · 22/09/2015 15:41

Is this for real? Grin

MsTargaryen · 22/09/2015 16:42

TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK.

"We don't like them."

WAH YOU SO RUDE BAD FREE MARKET RESEARCH SUBJECTS.

elQuintoConyo · 22/09/2015 21:07

Petridish I'm laughing hard at your "it's a cunt's game".

Perhaps OP could put THAT on a t-shirt Grin
