Would you put your spare room on air bnb?

We are twenty minutes from Central London. My friend and I are sick of looking for flatmates and would quite like a break from living with other people! What do you think to letting out the spare bedroom?

Yes she's lovely. Yes m just going to take her to Asda for a real British Sunday experience or maybe Morrissons might be calmer!

Just found this thread and am reading with interest as we are considering doing this.

Good god. I should've learnt my lesson. The more you do for people the worse the reviews. I'm so upset I'll be back on here later. I've decided I'm too sensitive I'm not going to do it anymore. It's not worth the £23 per night.

We’re still doing Airbnb. Pretty positive most of the time.
The summer was quietish and bookings are up now as is usual for the end of summer in a university town.

Had a young woman book recently and she turned up with a friend and told us he was going to sleep on the floor!
Told her that wasn’t allowed. After they discussed it she came down and told us he would be staying instead. Told her that wasn’t allowed either.
So after another half hour or so they both left saying they’d find somewhere else.
Got a message a bit later asking for a refund. Which sadly for her she wasn’t entitled to. 🙄

Just read the whole thread! Lots of interesting experiences. We've been having guests for 3 months now and no major traumas yet - except maybe for the young girl who turned up a month early! Luckily she was happy with the sofa :)

I had a shocker in that my account was hacked. It linked my account to two fraudulent non existing flats, one in London and the other in Paris, both looking exactly the same. For a ridiculously low price.

Could not get into my account. Phoned AirBnB to get a new verification code only to be told that the whole thing would be referred to the 'Trust and Verification Team'. I was pleading with them on the phone to solve this and all the while requests for bookings were being made, like over 60. I made four phone calls to AirBnB and eventually after ten hours they removed the false flats and gave me a new verification code.

However, they did not clear the 'bookings' and I was penalised for not replying to the people trying to book within the 24 hour time frame.

It was a nightmare.

I have no idea how this scam works because on booking AirBnB takes your money and does not release it to the host until after the first night of the stay. So how would the scammers gain from this?

But nevertheless I had the day from hell watching all these booking requests coming in and not being able to do anything about it.

However, we continue to have a steady stream of guests and are still enjoying hosting. Sorry you had a bad experience Each, I hope it got resolved for you.
