Hi

I have a 17 month old and am pregnant with second due in january. I want to try and generate some money and would either like to work from home part time or work a couple of evenings (therefore avoiding childcare costs),

Any ideas/recommendations?????

how about partyplan. you'll be self employed so no pregnancy discrimination, and you can still claim maternity allowance. I think Virgin vie are recruiting people to sell their xmas products, which is from sepctember thru to earl december. I used to do it and loved it. I could make up to "£1500 in november by working 3/4 nights a week.. there are lots of others though, but perhaps not ann summers atm!

sorry, my typing sucks tonight

foxy1 · 23/08/2006 22:42

Thanks - are there any intial costs with Virgin Vie? is this solely done through parties?

Hi,

I can recommend usborne books, i can do this with my little ones (25m and 12M) i go to playgroups nurseries, soft play centers, i can also do the odd party at night. I can give you loads more info if you'd like ([email protected])

AllieBongo · 24/08/2006 13:14

there are some starting cost, but you generally recoup that from 1st 2 parties, and can sell some stuff on.. also can have your own website for when you are off your feet used to get £200-£250 or orders a month from there alone, of which i earned 34%

Hi
I started Mamatoto 3 years ago, because I was a Mum of two struggling to find something that fit around my children. We're currently looking for Mums in all areas to join us as Sales Advisors, and when our website goes live (next week - hurrah!) you can earn commission by doing nothing more than recommending the website! If someone you recommend places an order you get commission - simple as that!

Currently we have Advisors throughout the country selling to friends and family, or through nurseries, playgroups, schools, prenatal classes etc etc. There's no targets and no pressure - so you can completely fit in in around your family. Hope it's something that might appeal? Do let me know if you would like some more info: [email protected]

Have you heard of Mini-IQ?

it's relatively new, selling fun, educational books and toys from birth up to 12 years old.
mainly party plan, but can be done via toddler groups etc like usbourne.

have a look at their website or contact me for more info and I could send you a catalogue to start

Linda

Not sure if you are still looking or not. I work from home part time and I have been working part time in an office and looking after DS. We started our business about 12mths ago and it is now equaling the salary I earn in the office.

I have just started maternity leave and am able to put extra hours into the business so intend to build it up so that I have an option about going back to work in the office at the end of my maternity leave or not.

If you'd like information pls contact me at [email protected] or we have a website where you can get a business presentation - it will explain it far better than I can lol work from home

I work part time as a nursery nurse and work from home selling Usborne books.
they are fab, I work in my own time, do as much or as little as i want /am able to.
the commission's great and I now have a gorgeous collection of books that my kids love!! (So do I!!)
Please feel free to ask me more.

TrinaJ · 03/09/2006 11:19

Daisydog - could you give me more info on joining your business, as I've really got into this working from home idea!
Thanks

How about Pampered Chef - lots of flexibility, lots of support, lots of earning potential, brilliant things to cook and serve food with. Let me know if you're interested...

dmo · 07/09/2006 20:02

why dont you become a childminder
as you have young children you will have all the stuff
you would be able to have one child under 5 as you have 2 yourself and could earn £120 per week

tiredemma · 07/09/2006 20:13

some travel companies employ people who work from home. Think that one of them is called 'travel counsellors'

Fuchsia · 15/09/2006 22:00

Best thing I think to do is source your own products and sell them online and do parties, christmas and summer stalls. You get to keep more money that way instead of paying commission to other party plan companies. It costs a bit to get going but if you want to keep costs down then just do what Virgin Vie girls do, take orders!Check out my webiste: \link{http://www.fuchsiacollection.com} I work part-time for a company and do this in my spare time and look after my 2 kids.

Hi
I am just setting up a french designer kids clothes bus in the north west & cheshire where I live, to fit in around my family! works like the other party style jobs, although this gives you a substantial clothes sample start and it is totally new and unexplored at the moment. It involves doing parties, one to one shopping or coffee mornings. Established company in France for 12 yrs. Exc commission. Anyone interested? [email protected]

Holidaymum · 16/09/2006 16:01

Travel counsellors is fab! You need to have 5 years experience in travel and you run it as your own franchise on a self employed basis. You can either do telesales or be a personal travel counsellor.

They have a wonderful and supportive head office and provide training admin etc.

However you cannot homework in travel without the relevant experience its a complex field with lots of liabilities. Nor is it a part time option really, I've been a Travel Counsellor for 5 years now and can honestly say I would never do anything else but it is a complete lifestyle job not a 9-5.

Hi, I have been reading through a mountain of threads about working from home, but wonder if anyone can answer the following: I am looking into doing some sort of party plan (possibly aromatherapy) as I like the idea of doing a night a week or more if I want to. Has anyone any good experiences of this and can anyone tell me what is a realistic expectation of potential earnings?

mcmum · 16/09/2006 16:50

Hi again,

re my earlier posting. Start up cost is £25.00, the cost of the items to sell are very reasonable, nothing dearer than £30, with varying commissions of 20-30%.So if you are interested in either earning, or raising funds for a charity or even having a party, email me on [email protected]
