How far do you travel to work?

I current have a short walk to work but have been offered a higher paid job around 35 minutes drive away, just out of interest how far do you travel to work ?? I can't make up my mind if I want to take it.

45 minutes on a good day, 90 on a bad one! That's each way so up to 3 hours in total.

Anything between 25 mins drive and 2 hours I don't have a set place of work. In my last job I spent an hour and 15 mins drive either way x

I work 25 mins on the train away, so by the time I've got to the station, dithered about waiting for the train and walked a little way at the other end it's about 45 mins door to door. I once worked a 45 min drive away but found that very stressful as the traffic was unpredictable and it wasn't a very relaxed workplace so lateness was very frowned upon, even if you made up the time threefold after hours (it's flexi where I work now which suits me much better).

DH works 1 hour 20 mins away but only goes in 3 days a week (remainder at home).

I drive and depending on traffic between 25 - 45 mins

32 mile round trip driving. Used to be 40+ when I had to go via 2 schools but DC now adult.

my commute is up to 1.5hours each way (currently on mat leave and already dreading going back....)

It all depends. In London a 35 min commute (although generally not driving) would be seen as pretty short. But really only you can decide whether the pay or other benefits you'd get from the new job is worth up to an hour of your day every working day.

We live in North Yorkshire, my dh works in London.....

I love the fact that I can walk to work as I don't drive and have had to rely on buses before

30 min and 27 mile drive each way.

Previously I had a 25 min train with a 15 min walk each end of it. Plus waiting for the train on the way home.

DH has a 6 min drive and hates it as he used to uses his 20 min drive to unwind before we moved here.

Short bus trip, 40 minute train journey, 10 minute walk. Fine on a good day but in bad weather or when there are delays it can be a nightmare. I commute to London and couldn't really do my job locally so it has to be done.

Yep, 35 minute journey on London is practically living where you work!

But I imagine out of London and driving it could be a pain in the arse. I do a twenty minute walk to the station (40 if I'm dropping DC off), 30 mins on the train, 10 mins on the Tube - normally just shy of 1 hour 30 each way. But being on a train and Tube does mean I get to just sit and read, which you obviously can't do in your car.

If I leave after 08:45, then it's usually 25 minutes. If I have to be in for 09:00, it's 50 minutes. If I'm working in London, it's about 90 minutes (10 minute walk to the station, hour on train, then Tube, then 5 minutes walking.)

It's something I've thought about recently, as I've been looking at other jobs - If I'm driving, I don't really want more than 45 minutes (which is what it was from my last house.) I don't mind up to 90 minutes if it's on the train, as I can read or do other stuff on the train, whereas driving, you do rather have to concentrate on controlling the car, not driving into other vehicles, and which direction you need to go in and so on, which is all jolly tedious and time-consuming.

Out of school holidays, if I leave at 6.15am, its probably 1 hr 20 mins (its 60 miles each way). For every 5 minutes I leave after 6.15am, it adds an extra 10 minutes to the journey (so if I leave at 6.30am, it'll take an extra 30 minutes - so 1 hr 50 mins).

Return journey, probably 1 hr 30 on a good run (at 4pm).

45 minute drive each way ....13 long bloody miles ....but peak time through city centre

20 miles each way, takes 35 mins if I start at 6 am upto an hour if I start at 7 or later. Night shift starts can been a 90 min commute.

I loathe commuting. Totally understand the dilemma.
I Would like to live within 25 minute walk distance. Do live 18 miles which means 50minutes-1.5 hours depending how I travel. It is not unusual to hear of 2-3 hour commutes around here (each way).

I did have one job, which was a half hour walk, which was great. I think 20-30 minutes (by whichever method) is about the right amount of time to switch between work/home modes and without the commute becoming too much of a chore.

30-40 minute drive in the morning home in around 20 minutes as I leave in the afternoon so no rush hour.

3 miles. takes 10mins by car.

some days the ridiculously short commute is the only thing that prevents me from resigning.

I do 42 miles each way from west to north yorkshire

I'm lucky because I can be flexible enough to travel outside the rush hour but it was a condition of taking the transfer -I wouldn't do it at rush hour or when Leeds fest is on
