37 miles drive each way, almost all motorway, takes about 45/50 mins at peak time. I don't mind the time, but the cost in petrol and the toll in car repairs is becoming a drain on household finances . I dream of a job that I can cycle to or or do a cheap bus ride to. If I was thinking of changing jobs, I would look closely at both commuting time and costs.

sharonfagan1991 · 23/08/2013 21:25

20 minute car journey for me.

Crutchlow35 · 24/08/2013 08:59

Very lucky. About 7 minutes.

SnookyPooky · 24/08/2013 11:08

Also lucky, about 50km round trip, all highway, 15-20 mins each way.

ElephantsEye · 25/08/2013 20:42

12 mile drive. Anything from 25-45 minutes; but 30 minutes-ish is the norm.

Used to be 35 minutes door-to-desk when I worked in a different location and could use a train.

Letticetheslug · 25/08/2013 20:49

15 miles , round about half an hours drive..doable

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 25/08/2013 20:50

About a mile and a half, but it takes me just over half an hour because I drop our ds's to school on the way (I need my car at work before anyone says I should walk!).

OldRoan · 25/08/2013 20:52

If I leave at the time I am supposed to, 10 minutes on the tube, 10 minute bus journey, 5 minute walk. If I leave as late as possible, 10 minutes on the tube, 25 minute bus journey, 5 minute walk. So 25-40 mins.

nextphase · 25/08/2013 21:03

12 mins to the old site.
20 mins to the one I'm being shifted to.
540 miles on Tuesday ;(

Portofino · 25/08/2013 21:06

About 1 hour 15 mins each way, including school run.

Mintyy · 25/08/2013 21:09

Cycle 40 mins. (Bus ride would be 50-60 mins).

BumPop · 25/08/2013 21:15

Briefly had a job less than 10ms walk away, I loved the commute. Grin Now 30ms or so commute each way and it's even better. I have time for the transition from Mummy Bumpop to worker bumpop. I travel by public transport, so get to read. Too long is of course tiring, but anything under an hour can be viewed as secret me time. Wink

AmethystMoon · 25/08/2013 21:16

Just under two hours each way. Fifteen min drive, then ten min walk, then 15 min train, then wait 10 min to change to another train for 45 min then 15 min walk....on a good day when it all happens on time! I think you can used to a longer commute, just need a routine.

surroundedbyblondes · 25/08/2013 21:19

Around 45 minutes each way. Bit too long for my liking, but it's a new job and I'm working in a great office. Am hoping that within a year or so a vacancy will come up in the office in my local town.

ShadowSummer · 25/08/2013 21:19

Usually about 30 - 45 minutes drive to work depending on traffic.

claretandamberforever · 29/08/2013 16:57

1 mile away. 20 minutes walk or 4 minutes in the car if I'm lazy and the traffic lights are being my friend.

OvertiredandConfused · 30/08/2013 09:14

1.5 hours each way, every day Sad

mikkii · 30/08/2013 09:20

Out of rush hour, 16 minutes. During rush hour about half an hour. Factor in the school run (same direction, but have to find a parking space, park, walk DC into school, wait for gate to open at 8.30, walk back to car) about 50 minutes.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/08/2013 09:22

Mine have varied over the years, I've always driven, and have concluded that a reliable 45 mins is the most I would really like to do, but would go to an hour for a brilliant job.

My last job was 27 miles / 45 mins on winding, unlit country A roads (single carriageway), it was fine (in fact beautiful) during daylight but really draining at the end of a long day in winter. Now I drive 20 mins / 10 miles on dual carriageway, daylight only as it is a school hours job, it is easier but very boring.

OnIlkelyMoorBahtat · 02/09/2013 13:33

Minimum 1.5 hours each way (sometime longer due to the vagaries of public transport - thanks TfL!), but I work at home 2 days a week.
