Business Name?

As it's the New Year I have decided to start a new business idea (hijacked from Twiglett).

I am an already a childminder (with not enough children )and I thought I could provide Ad-Hoc Childminding. You know for stay at home Mums or maybe Mums who work part-time. They don't want a regular childminder, but occasionally want to go to lunch unaccompanied, or to Dr's/Hosp without the children, or even the hairdresser or gym. so I thought I'd advertise that I would do this sort of minding.

I would charge a registration fee (to cover the contract costs) then a minimum fee and an hourly rate. But the fees would have to be paid to reserve a place (up-front),

Problem is I don't know what to call it Occasional Minding or Ad-Hoc Minding sound to casual.

Any Ideas?

If you were a bit older I could say "Rent-A-Granny" -- because Grannies used to be the ones who did occasional childminding. Maybe a similar idea?

KatieMac · 02/01/2004 20:36

Yes, my uncle said the same...the best one we could brainstorm yesterday was

EscapeAid (said escapade) but it was a bit tenuous...

'Just Five Minutes Peace and Quiet' was one idea but I felt that was a bit negative

Minder-Now-and-again?

Mummysurfer · 02/01/2004 20:39

SAHM's ChildMinder

fisil · 02/01/2004 20:40

Mind How You Go

Lamin · 02/01/2004 20:43

MindOut .. geddit?

bit rubbish will keep thinking

Give Yourself a Break

JanH · 02/01/2004 20:50

Have a Break - Have some Kidcare
(Stuck in a Break rut - sorry!)

JanH · 02/01/2004 20:51

Time Out for Mums

codswallop · 02/01/2004 20:55

Katies Kiddicare...(!)

KatieMac · 02/01/2004 21:06

Have a Break - Have some Kidcare thanks JanH (and everyone else)

Like this one but my mum will freak out as she objects to children being refered to as small goats!! So maybe not

I think it's really difficult to create a 'name' (this is why advertising executives and Marketing Peeps get SO much money)

Do any of the SAHM (or parttimers)think this will work...
I know a lot of people have family so they can have an hour or two 'off' but I think sometimes it could be useful....

Well it would be If I could think of a name
(or con you lot into thinking of one for me! )

OP posts:

For me, the ones that work are:
"Mind How You Go"
"Just Five Minutes"
and a little less so:
"Escape Aid"

I'm a sucker for names! But also SAHM who might use services like that, esp if I could build a relationship with the person.

jacksmumto1 · 02/01/2004 22:03

Sorry - no advice re:name but are you based near Bristol?!

We desperatley need someone to provide this sort of care for those times when dh needs sleep (he works nights) and I have to do something which means no ds!!!!!

Lisa78 · 02/01/2004 22:06

I think this would be a really successful business - no idea for a name though!

adell · 02/01/2004 22:10

I haven't got any family nearby and would love to find someone who does that down here. Good luck with it.

jasper · 02/01/2004 22:47

Tell your mum that the derivation of kids is nothing to do with goats but comes from "kinder"(or something similar) which is children in some other language, can't remember which. According to my linguistic expert father this is a common misaprehension.

FWIW I think EscapeAid is too contrived.

nutcracker · 02/01/2004 22:51

KINDER German for kids/children.

jasper · 03/01/2004 00:11

Thanks Nutcracker. I was begining to wonder if I had imagined it

codswallop · 03/01/2004 08:15

I use my mU a lot for this kind of care. maybe sone allusion to htis being a mUm subtitiute

"Just a minute" onsted as its the 30 mins yo often need

NewThinnerDragon · 03/01/2004 08:29

Minute Minders?

KatieMac · 03/01/2004 21:42

Sorry, I'm in Norfolk (a bit of a trek from Bristol), thanks again on all the ideas I'm still working on it

Katie, do you actually need a name? To me, it suggests a company and feels less personal, and the whole thing about your (excellent) business idea is that it is personal, and all about what you're like, which is why parents will feel confident about using you on an ad-hoc basis....Katie child care? Something using your name anyway. Wish you all the best in getting this up and running anyway.

SenoraPostrophe · 05/01/2004 13:42

I think a personal name would work better too - otherwise people might think you're a giant conglomerate charging a fortune and paying a pittance to a reluctant army of child-minders...

Alternatively, something homely like:

Peace and Quiet
Mama's Haven ( really naff but you get the idea)

And being in Norfolk I'd be tempted to use something like Leavem Hare (leave them here, geddit? ). Where are you anyway?

katierocket · 05/01/2004 13:50

'Weight Off Your Mind' ?
