Isn't this just so insulting?

In a team personal development session when asked to describe the best things about me, my male senior colleague said "she always makes me smile"

As the most senior woman there, I think he absolutely wouldn't have said that to a male colleague.

What do you think?

This is so bloody depressing

I would leave and go nuclear in the exit interview

But I don't have the stomach for big fights :(

You see this is the thing, we promote females, we work hard to ensure fairness and equality, we have every bloody scheme in the book. But until we stamp out cultural behavioural crap like this, there is no way women can succeed, not even the tough and resilient ones like me. Because we think "Sod this, there's definitely an easier way". Also how much harder is it for me to make partner than a man. We can do the same things, but until we stamp out this nonsense, this ever so subtle sexism, this under the wire, not quite enough to be really bad or really caught, will individuals have the same chances in the workplace.

Why should I put up with this shit?

I won't resign, not until I get a new job and my bonus!

You're absolutely right and you shouldn't put up with it. But not putting up with it is so hard.

I was watching Mad Mrn the other day and feeling happy that the outright sexism of the 60s has more or less gone. But this stuff does remain and is harder to tackle.

A woman at my work just got the top job and one of the men congratulated her, then said 'is there no end to your ambition?' is a sneer Angry
