Public Sector Strikes and other action.

I have just googled to see what action is going ahead on the day of the strike next week...I came up with precious little.

Is this an excuse for a lie in or are public sector workers actually demonstrating/protesting?

Is there going to be a mass invasion of london? At least there are going to be marches at the centres of local government? Let me know, I might participate if there is enough momentum! I'm not going to bother if there are just two of you who turn up at lunchtime and go home at 2.

I found nothing online....convince me this is worth backing?

I've no idea whether there are any demonstrations or other protests planned, but this thread lists a lot of areas where strikes are expected.

Cain · 26/11/2011 23:20

Strikes seem to be nationwide, that I realise but what I want to know is WHAT ARE THE STRIKING PUBLIC SECTOR WORKERS DOING WITH THIS TIME OFF?

Polite question.

Im going on the TUC pensions march in bham.

Cain · 26/11/2011 23:25

Well done you. That is proactive. Let us know how it goes.

If anyone is on strike then they aren't paid so it isn't really time off as such.

Cain · 26/11/2011 23:35

So the purpose is just an unpaid day off? With no proactive activity in light of what is at stake?

If you knew you could make the government turn about on public sector pension reforms, what would you do differently?

twinklytroll · 26/11/2011 23:41

I am marching although it will be a lie in as I usually get up at half five for work.
I think if you care enough to strike you should care enough to march,

Cain · 26/11/2011 23:42

Excellent Twinklytroll.

There's public sector marches in our county.

Cain · 26/11/2011 23:45

You will be attending I take it hellhasnofury?

LoopyLoopsRootyFroots · 26/11/2011 23:46

I will. Can't figure out where though. Confused

wampum · 26/11/2011 23:51

Are uni staff striking?

Will unis be closed?

Cain · 26/11/2011 23:53

wampum your union should have informed you by now.

OP posts:
Cain · 26/11/2011 23:54

LoopyLoopsRootyFroots find out and attend.

OP posts:
wampum · 26/11/2011 23:55

I don't work for a uni, though! Just want to know!

wampum · 26/11/2011 23:55

Oh, I see. It's a thread to drum up support.

wampum · 26/11/2011 23:56

Are you Ed Milibrother? John Prescott?

tiredemma · 26/11/2011 23:57

Its not going to be Ed Milliband because he has been very quiet so far on the Strike front (disappointingly so)

wampum · 26/11/2011 23:58

Ohhh. Who is it, then?

Cain · 27/11/2011 00:04

Actually, I'm a private sector worker who is struggling through recession and would like to support the private sector over pensions but just see a whole lot of apathy about it.

It seems like an excuse for a day off for the vast majority.

I would be happy to be proven wrong next wednesday but I can't see any evidence its going to happen.

OP posts:
tiredemma · 27/11/2011 00:09

Cain I think that there is going to be a massive turnout. I am RCN so havn't been balloted to strike yet, but Im not working on Wednesday and plan to support my colleagues.

wampum · 27/11/2011 00:09

Well, thanks for the link, scaevola, but I still can't make out whether unis will be open or not.
Confused

wampum · 27/11/2011 00:10

Students are usually willing to turn out. Where's the NUS on this?

Cain · 27/11/2011 00:16

Exactly, where? Its piss poor, organisationally. I'm not sure I can support.
