Desperately sad news we’re afraid, the lovely poster creamhearts passed away on May 13th. She was well known to many across the boards, such a loving, wise, generous poster, her kindness shining through despite her deep struggles with mental health issues. She reached out to so many over the many years she posted, helping others in ways she may not have fully realised. Mumsnet will be a poorer place with out her. Her DH is Jon and his thread is here if you would like to add your condolences.

We are so pleased Jon has accepted our offer of a Woolly Hug, there will be love for them both in every stitch, and we hope it gives what comfort it can.

So once again we come asking for help. Thanks

We shall need crocheters, knitters and donors. If you would like to donate wool or funds, we can match you up. If you would like to join in but need donated wool, we can help there too. Please PM with your offers of help THANK YOU SO MUCH. If you need yarn and are a hooker, do let us know, as we have part balls that will be perfect for crochet.

The Yarn we are Using….

  • Artesano Superwash Merino DK
  • Debbie Bliss Rialto DK
  • Drops Merino Extra Fine DK
  • Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK
  • Patons Merino Extrafine DK
  • Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK Just from the brands listed please because we know they combine for wash and wear. If you still have any of our wools that have been discontinued - Rowan cashsoft DK, Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK or James C. Brett Pure Merino DK in your stash, please do use them.

Thanks Thanks

Ideas for squares
We are looking forward to making this a tribute and celebration of beautiful creamhearts, and Jon has given us such fabulous ideas to help…

  • Cats. She loved their cat Maisy,
  • And she loved their Guinea Pigs, Chester (white) Bertie (black and ginger) and Milo (ginger)
  • She loved Greece, loved their holidays there, and the Maldives where they honeymooned.
  • She liked hearts.
  • Her favourite flowers were calla lilies
  • She loved cocktails, BBQs, coffee with friends, ice creams, desserts.
  • We do have initials if this might be something you could help with, do message us.

Thanks Thanks

Colourwise, using the effect of ice cream in trays in parlours as inspiration, so…….

  • Cream - but please one of these - Debbie Bliss Rialto DK 02 ecru, or Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM4 cream (+ James C. Brett Pure Merino DK no 7 if you have any left)
  • Yellow - just this one please - Drops extra fine merino DK 24
  • Duck egg - one of these please - Drops extrafine merino DK 15, Debbie Bliss Rialto DK ‘aqua’, or ‘duck egg’
  • Pale/soft blues
  • Pale/soft pinks
  • Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK - Pistachio, WM1
  • Stone - either Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM9 Beige or Debbie Bliss Rialto 06 Stone (+James C. Brett Pure Merino DK 17 Beige if you still have any)
  • Lavender - eg Jenny Watson WM15

and

  • Jenny Watson pure merino DK WM7 ‘taupe’ for embellishments.

If buying Jenny Watson yarn - it is currently cheapest at Wise Badger and Laughing Hens. If using Wool Warehouse for any purchase, YARNDALE gives you free postage.

Thanks Thanks

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert are equally welcomed. It really is the love and thought that counts. Lots of ideas for sure, but please don't feel daunted, we LOVE plain squares and simple textures too. They add so beautifully.

Help with Crafting

We are on Facebook as Woolly Hugs and Twitter as @Woolly_Hugs which are both good ways to keep in touch. Please do join us there.

I have 2/3 ball left of both the pistachio and pale yellow you sent me. Shall I send them back?

JulesJules · 02/07/2015 14:41

6" square is usually 33 stitches and 45 rows, but depends a bit on the pattern, some are more scrunched up* than others requiring more stitches.

*technical term Grin

WhereDoAllTheCalculatorsGo · 03/07/2015 11:17

Hello all, am I too late to donate? I've been away and I've only just seen this.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 04/07/2015 13:51

hi Calc how are you? been thinking about you Thanks
I'm pretty sure you are in time, this project is very recent
(it's not my place to say thank you, but thank you anyway!)

pistey

yellow and taupe wool have arrived so far. I've finished soft pink granny square and working on the blue one.
then I will make a yellow one (all solid colours) and all 3 will have little hearts "bunting" on them.
I think they will look sweet.
shame I didn't ask for the lavender

so colour questions - may I use Debbie Bliss 52 (it's a lavender-y colour) and Artesano Baby Teal?
no worries if you think they don't suit/fit, but I have these already

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 04/07/2015 13:52

forgot to ask about JW WM8 - is that acceptable?

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 04/07/2015 13:55

oh I forgot to say thank you for wool Blush
sorry. thank you!Thanks

Tarlia · 05/07/2015 22:59

zing Artesano baby teal is allowed to be used. I already double checked with WHHQ, it's a gorgeous shade isn't it!? The heart bunting sounds lovely.

Tarlia · 05/07/2015 23:02

Errr, punctuation went to pot there...I shall blame my iPhone, not my tired brain. Blush

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 05/07/2015 23:54

tarlia thanks
it is a lovely shade Smile
(we must always blame DumbPhones and WhyPads!Grin )

KnottyAndPistey · 06/07/2015 10:34

Morning and apologies for being AWOL Thanks

Zing The WM8 is a bit dark for this, as lovely as it is and Tarlia is quite right about the baby teal.

The DB52 lavender is perfect, thank you.

Lovely Calcs [hugs]
Not too late at all, we'd be so glad to have you on board, thank you. xxxx

The wool for the lilies has arrived, so will be making kits to send out. Pixie I finally got your message, if you'd like to PM us your email address, we can send you a PDF if you like. The other lily pattern though is perfect too.

Am I too late????

If there's any spare wool I can do some squares for FluffyD.

KnottyAndPistey · 10/07/2015 15:31

Afternoon Smile Brew

Lovely Pancakeflipper Not too late at all, yes we do have wool for you, can you just remind us of your address please? Thank you so much Thanks

Good luck lovely Polter you have our respect, two knitting needles is hard enough! Thank you so much Thanks

Lovely Zing - last posting is on July 22nd, and as last year we will be asking for a pause in posting to us over the summer holidays. Tis much better woolly treasure stays with you, rather than gets stuck in the sorting office for ages. So after July 22nd, we'd like a break until September 1st. Hope that makes sense!

Thank you! Thanks

Starting tonight. Just got my WH stash out and have cream, stone, duck egg and a soft pink to do something with.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 11/07/2015 10:40

Pancake

Here are photos of the 2 squares I have made on your behalf. I hope you like them. The pink/yellow/beige one reminds me of Neapolitan ice cream Smile
If I find a good pattern I will put a cream heart in the middle of the blue one. X

Oh thank you ZingDQofS !! Pretty colours. FluffyD would appreciate that so much.

Now how lazy do I look?

Getting fellow MNetters to do my crocheting for me. Blush . It's like virtual knitting.

I cannot crochet for crumb of toffee.

Zing - The lovely Knotty and Pistey have sorted me some wool so I will knit a really boring basic untalented square on your behalf to repay the favour. Thank you and thanks for the lovely messages. You have a big kind heart.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 11/07/2015 22:43

Pancake just do an extra one or two from you, I'm already making 4 from me!Smile but thanks!Wink
