Desperately sad news we’re afraid, the lovely poster creamhearts passed away on May 13th. She was well known to many across the boards, such a loving, wise, generous poster, her kindness shining through despite her deep struggles with mental health issues. She reached out to so many over the many years she posted, helping others in ways she may not have fully realised. Mumsnet will be a poorer place with out her. Her DH is Jon and his thread is here if you would like to add your condolences.

We are so pleased Jon has accepted our offer of a Woolly Hug, there will be love for them both in every stitch, and we hope it gives what comfort it can.

So once again we come asking for help. Thanks

We shall need crocheters, knitters and donors. If you would like to donate wool or funds, we can match you up. If you would like to join in but need donated wool, we can help there too. Please PM with your offers of help THANK YOU SO MUCH. If you need yarn and are a hooker, do let us know, as we have part balls that will be perfect for crochet.

The Yarn we are Using….

  • Artesano Superwash Merino DK
  • Debbie Bliss Rialto DK
  • Drops Merino Extra Fine DK
  • Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK
  • Patons Merino Extrafine DK
  • Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK Just from the brands listed please because we know they combine for wash and wear. If you still have any of our wools that have been discontinued - Rowan cashsoft DK, Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK or James C. Brett Pure Merino DK in your stash, please do use them.

Thanks Thanks

Ideas for squares
We are looking forward to making this a tribute and celebration of beautiful creamhearts, and Jon has given us such fabulous ideas to help…

  • Cats. She loved their cat Maisy,
  • And she loved their Guinea Pigs, Chester (white) Bertie (black and ginger) and Milo (ginger)
  • She loved Greece, loved their holidays there, and the Maldives where they honeymooned.
  • She liked hearts.
  • Her favourite flowers were calla lilies
  • She loved cocktails, BBQs, coffee with friends, ice creams, desserts.
  • We do have initials if this might be something you could help with, do message us.

Thanks Thanks

Colourwise, using the effect of ice cream in trays in parlours as inspiration, so…….

  • Cream - but please one of these - Debbie Bliss Rialto DK 02 ecru, or Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM4 cream (+ James C. Brett Pure Merino DK no 7 if you have any left)
  • Yellow - just this one please - Drops extra fine merino DK 24
  • Duck egg - one of these please - Drops extrafine merino DK 15, Debbie Bliss Rialto DK ‘aqua’, or ‘duck egg’
  • Pale/soft blues
  • Pale/soft pinks
  • Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK - Pistachio, WM1
  • Stone - either Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM9 Beige or Debbie Bliss Rialto 06 Stone (+James C. Brett Pure Merino DK 17 Beige if you still have any)
  • Lavender - eg Jenny Watson WM15

and

  • Jenny Watson pure merino DK WM7 ‘taupe’ for embellishments.

If buying Jenny Watson yarn - it is currently cheapest at Wise Badger and Laughing Hens. If using Wool Warehouse for any purchase, YARNDALE gives you free postage.

Thanks Thanks

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert are equally welcomed. It really is the love and thought that counts. Lots of ideas for sure, but please don't feel daunted, we LOVE plain squares and simple textures too. They add so beautifully.

Help with Crafting

We are on Facebook as Woolly Hugs and Twitter as @Woolly_Hugs which are both good ways to keep in touch. Please do join us there.

This means such a lot to Jon. Together we will make something very beautiful for him.

Thinking of creamhearts and all those who love and miss her.

Heartfelt thanks Thanks

Knotty, what sort of thing? As I've said whilst I'm stuck in bed for a couple of months I'm willing to take anything on, I'm pretty good with design so just let me know what you need.

MarthaCostello · 24/06/2015 18:16

What awful news. All my sympathies to her husband and parents Flowers

I will make a couple of squares (and will send a PM too) x

KnottyAndPistey · 25/06/2015 07:51

Brew Morning everyone and huge thanks, we are having such an amazing response, fluffy is well loved.

Just catching up with PMs, Thumb am trying to find the person for your kind wool donation, hence looking for the piggies.

Confuddled Looking either for a guinea pig embellishment that can be sewn onto a 6 inch square, or a knitted design which shows a guinea pig. We see these fabulous knitted designs of almost everything - thinking recently, the sorting hat, musical notes, crowns - they are often dishcloth patterns found on Ravelry. There must be a guinea pig there, it's just the hunting, so if you have time for a dig around on there it would be fab. We'd happily buy a pattern if it's not a free one, so don't let that put you off.

Away to PMs, thanks all Thanks

I have a pattern (in a book) for a lovely calla lily embellishment. It's knitted and whilst I'm pretty nifty with a crochet hook I've never got on with knitting. I'd be happy to take a copy and send to pistey for sending on with a wool consignment if anyone fancies having a go? It requires 4 double pointed needles.

PurpleFrog · 25/06/2015 09:01

I will do some squares for this blanket as well. I have had a look for guinea pig patterns on Ravelry. Most are for 3d toys. There are a couple of charts but they look too big. I might have a go at designing something in taupe, cream and stone.

KnottyAndPistey · 25/06/2015 11:28

oh yes please Ama - know a few folk who are very capable with that sort of magic!

And Purple I completely bow down to your amazingness, good grief, that's so clever! Thank you

Thanks both Thanks

Thirteen parcels of wool are on their way to lovely crafters, thank you so much to our fabulous donors. Even the white plastic envelopes they will arrive in were kindly sent to us. Marvellous all round. Star Star

We truly heart the donors Thanks THANK YOU!

*Crafters - if waiting on this donated wool, please do let us know when it arrives safely so we won't worry, and if things change and it looks like you won't be able to use it, don't worry, we quite understand, just message us and we'll recirculate it to make sure it is used and goes into this Woolly Hug.

Thanks everyone Thanks

I've only just seen this, I've pm'd and have just read Ama's message about the calla lily, I can tackle this if no-one else has volunteered.

AmaDablam · 25/06/2015 22:23

Hmm, yeah I'm guessing it's pretty complex one Jules. Knitting with 2 needles flummoxes me, let alone 4! Great that you're up for it Ophelia, will post off to WHHQ tomorrow.

KnottyAndPistey · 26/06/2015 08:21

Respect to you lovely Ophelia!!

Thanks Ama

confuddledDOTcom · 26/06/2015 13:21

I don't mind having a go at four needles, never done it before so would be fun to give it a try.

I went through the topics on Raveley and have a doc with loads of links. I didn't get all of them covered but most. I'm on my phone and it was very convoluted so I'm pleased with how much I've got. would it be if use to anyone?
