Woolly Hugs Guide to Running

  1. Put down your woolly wool, crochet hooks and needles.
  2. Find your trainers, these are sort of soft bouncy shoe-things that go on your feet.
  3. Find something loose and comfortable to wear, and no we don't mean a caftan.
  4. Open front door and go outside Shock
  5. Put one foot in front of the other with speed and determination!

YOU are RUNNING!!

If you haven't seen Phase 2 of our Little Hugs, the thread is HERE. We launched this phase as a tribute to beautiful Billie, our lovely MrsDeVere's daughter, who devastatingly died at 14 from leukaemia. We launched this at the time of her 21st birthday and we call the project Billie's Blankets in her memory. In her name, and through World Child Cancer, we will send little blankets to children, starting with Malawi and Bangladesh, who really need a Woolly Hug and to feel loved and looked after.

Alongside Billie's Blankets, we are very keen to send a donation to World Child Cancer, as money is scarce, they really have so little. One of the ways we will do this is by running! In May a Woolly Hugs' team will be running the BUPA London 10k, and we are now looking for runners to enter 5K runs throughout the country.

These are where the 5K runs will take place?.. They are all over!

There are already runners committed to running (BIWI, TantrumsandBalloons,me) in London at Crystal Palace on October 13th, and lovely Fizzy and PrettyBird are running in the Glasgow event on July 27th. We would love folk to join with us, or run at a different venue! There is no minimum age and children can be entered, my daughter is running with me, I say with, she will shoot off like a gazelle and I will lumber along. Happily the website says they love fancy dress

Because World Child Cancer isn't a nominated charity we/they ask that you let them know independently. To take pressure off individuals, and to make this a real woolly community effort we recommend that you use our Woolly Hugs Just Giving page for fundraising. Anything you raise will be marvellous, really, and we will all be able to see how much we can raise together.

Our Just Giving Page is HERE Donations are welcome at any time, huge thanks for those already in.

So please have a think, if you are interested, we would recommend entering soon to avoid disappointment. Let us know when you have entered so we can cheer you on, and please use this thread for support, and general running things Couch to 5K apps and playlists for running spring to mind.

The children that WCC support need all the love and comfort possible. So please, in memory of a sparkling young girl who always thought of others, we'd love you to help us help them.

As ever, thank you so much for your support Thanks

Thinking of Billie and her family Xx

Knotty and Pistey

Thanks

Glad you said that blathers as I didn't have a great run tbh, I did 6km in 38 mins but it felt hard, last nights 8km was a better run! Not sire if it was the warmth or the fact that my shoulders felt stiff/tight,my posture felt off or something. Will have a rest day tomorrow.

Blatherskite · 23/04/2013 21:45

It definitely made a difference for me.

I worked quite hard at the weekend and am still a bit stiff too which didn't help but I really felt like the heat was making things harder.

Hopefully, things will get easier as I acclimatise

5madthings · 23/04/2013 21:48

I had a busy day today with lots of walking and was about stiff after yesterday's run but it was my shoulders that felt odd this eve ring and I was warm with my jacket on, I need to get a belt for my phone so I don't have to wear my jacket tho still want a reflective vest for running in the evening. Will have to have a look in town. Tho I have one somewhere that the boys have for bike riding...

MegBusset · 23/04/2013 22:34

I've got a new belt, wore it for the first time today actually, much better than an armband. It's a Karrimor one, got it off eBay.

Otherworld · 23/04/2013 23:14

Hi all. Just checking in. I had a month off running - injury and a chest cold - but have done a couple of test runs in the last few days and it wasn't too bad. Legs and bum are feeling rather wobbly though. Should maybe have eaten fewer biscuits whilst not running!

Still just me for Southampton in June?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 23/04/2013 23:20

Still just you for Southampton as far as I know. But in a way that is good, as you will be the fastest Woolly Hugger on the day. So technically you will win Smile

Yay! A winner! Grin

Otherworld · 24/04/2013 00:07

Hurray!

5madthings · 24/04/2013 09:21

Yay at a guaranteed winner! Grin

I went to bed by 10pm last night, early for me, and have woken up to discover my niggly cold has gone to ,y chest, which may explain why my run was hard last night. Have ordered an inhaler from my go which I have been meaning to do for ages.

PiggyPlumPie · 24/04/2013 15:06

Afternoon!!

Am just back from my final long run before Saturdays race at Balmoral!!

Did 5.5 miles which is nearly 9k I think in 1hr and 7 mins so I'm not going to be breaking any records.

It has been really hard going as I am training alone and find it hard to keep myself motivated but you lot have been on my mind when I'm slogging up the many hills around here and I will finish on Saturday if it kills me!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 24/04/2013 15:13

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 24/04/2013 16:49

Hello everyone,

I haven't posted on this thread before, although I am a Woolly Hooker and a runner, when the thread started I was laid up with an injury. I'm out running again now and the lovely Pistey has just reminded me about it so I thought I would pop in and say a big well done to everyone who is taking part in the runs and especially Good Luck to you PiggyPlumPie for this weekend.

I'm going to scroll back now and see if there is any possibility I could join the efforts.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 24/04/2013 16:57

Really good news you are back out running again WhoKnows X

There are 5K runs happening too, we have a lovely runner going in Southampton in June, and we go in London in October. Glasgow might be a bit far Smile

Go Piggy! x

5madthings · 24/04/2013 17:32

I think there are still places in the manchester bupa 10k on the 26th may. easily is running in that :)

I looked at thd webpage the other day and it was still open to applicants.

GlaikitFizzog · 24/04/2013 17:33

Piggy I will be cheering you on! We are actually in Aberdeen this weekend and are thinking about a trip up that way if its nice on Saturday! :)

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 24/04/2013 17:34

I've only done 3k so far, and that takes me half an hour, so even 5 will be a bit of a step up. I will have to keep things slow though in order to avoid further injury. Will definitely think about it though, both Southampton and London are within reach.

5madthings · 24/04/2013 17:40

I am looking for runs in sept/oct time as signing up for something else will motivate me to keep going... I had a crazy discussion with dp that i might tryand do a few 10k runs and depending on how i get on i may think about a half marathon which is 21k ha ha ha. Its something to aim for... But having done 8k i know the 10k is totally doable and i am actually enjoying running and getting excited for may.

piggy if you are on fb feel free to pm and i will cheer you on.

This thread is filling up, we will need a new one soon!

BIWI · 24/04/2013 17:45

21k?!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 24/04/2013 17:48

We will need a new thread, we have lots of running to be done, and cheering to do!

OP posts:
5madthings · 24/04/2013 17:55

Well yes that was my initial reaction as well biwi but i think if i can do 10k in an hour and ten or an hour and 15mins then 21k would be doable in under three hours.. that doesnt seem too bad?!!

Anyway i shall do bupa london and try and sign up for others and then maybe next year think about further.... maybe this sun we have had for a few days has gone to my head
