Woolly Hugs Guide to Running

  1. Put down your woolly wool, crochet hooks and needles.
  2. Find your trainers, these are sort of soft bouncy shoe-things that go on your feet.
  3. Find something loose and comfortable to wear, and no we don't mean a caftan.
  4. Open front door and go outside Shock
  5. Put one foot in front of the other with speed and determination!

YOU are RUNNING!!

If you haven't seen Phase 2 of our Little Hugs, the thread is HERE. We launched this phase as a tribute to beautiful Billie, our lovely MrsDeVere's daughter, who devastatingly died at 14 from leukaemia. We launched this at the time of her 21st birthday and we call the project Billie's Blankets in her memory. In her name, and through World Child Cancer, we will send little blankets to children, starting with Malawi and Bangladesh, who really need a Woolly Hug and to feel loved and looked after.

Alongside Billie's Blankets, we are very keen to send a donation to World Child Cancer, as money is scarce, they really have so little. One of the ways we will do this is by running! In May a Woolly Hugs' team will be running the BUPA London 10k, and we are now looking for runners to enter 5K runs throughout the country.

These are where the 5K runs will take place?.. They are all over!

There are already runners committed to running (BIWI, TantrumsandBalloons,me) in London at Crystal Palace on October 13th, and lovely Fizzy and PrettyBird are running in the Glasgow event on July 27th. We would love folk to join with us, or run at a different venue! There is no minimum age and children can be entered, my daughter is running with me, I say with, she will shoot off like a gazelle and I will lumber along. Happily the website says they love fancy dress

Because World Child Cancer isn't a nominated charity we/they ask that you let them know independently. To take pressure off individuals, and to make this a real woolly community effort we recommend that you use our Woolly Hugs Just Giving page for fundraising. Anything you raise will be marvellous, really, and we will all be able to see how much we can raise together.

Our Just Giving Page is HERE Donations are welcome at any time, huge thanks for those already in.

So please have a think, if you are interested, we would recommend entering soon to avoid disappointment. Let us know when you have entered so we can cheer you on, and please use this thread for support, and general running things Couch to 5K apps and playlists for running spring to mind.

The children that WCC support need all the love and comfort possible. So please, in memory of a sparkling young girl who always thought of others, we'd love you to help us help them.

As ever, thank you so much for your support Thanks

Thinking of Billie and her family Xx

Knotty and Pistey

Thanks

And if Our Leader Pistey said so, then it must be true Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 26/02/2013 09:23

That should be Our Great and Glorious Leader, no?

Weeellllll

Blatherskite · 26/02/2013 09:51

I didn't do C25K but i was similar. I found it clicked once I could do 1k. Suddenly, it didn't seem so hard anymore.

I certainly never thought I'd do 10k and now I do that every week.

Half marathons are beginning to look appealing now Shock

BIWI · 26/02/2013 09:53
Shock

See, I can't imagine every saying that, Blathers!

But I also realise that I have no idea how far I'm running in terms of distance - only time. I can see that might actually - psychologically - make a difference as well.

Blatherskite · 26/02/2013 09:55

I never thought I'd say it either. I'm still firmly in the 'no marathons' camp so far but it's addictive this running malarkey

5madthings · 26/02/2013 10:46

Ha ha i saw dp after his marathon last year bloody nipples etc, no way could i do that but 10k seems fine as i doing 5k each time i go out, admittedly i am walkinh and running etc but i do it on under 40mins each time. Will be odd tge first time i run my whole route rather than walk bits!

I still have ds4 home, no more puke but he doesnt look quite right is just snuggled on the sofa, he cant go back to school til thu due to 48hr rule anyway but i expect he will be fine tomorrow.

GlaikitFizzog · 26/02/2013 12:59

I need injury advice. Just been sent home from work because I can't walk in sore foot. GPS number has bee constantly engaged for the last 45 minutes. We have no moron injuries unit nearby, only an a&e. if I pitch up there, will they turn me away because its more the 48 hours since my "accident"? I'd have to drive myself there, so don't want to go to only have to come back.

It's soooooo sore :(

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 26/02/2013 13:06

Glaikit - ouch! I didn't know A&E would turn you away if it's not a fresh accident Shock. Can you say you'd been taking pain killers, so didn't know how bad it was, and that it's got worse?

Blathers - never say never! I foolishly said I'd do a full marathon this year Shock, but have lost my running mojo - it will come back though. hope I don't end up like 5mad's DH Grin

BIWI - get thee to mapmyrun.com!

I have been out in the cold this morning. Awful run, no puff or oomph and very slow.

5madthings · 26/02/2013 13:06

I think they may turn you away. Have you tried NHS direct?

Ooh will only send you to a&e snywayy as you need an xray? I am crap at medical advice tho, luckily my mum is a nurse so I call her when I need any.

If you go to a&e now it might not be so busy...

5madthings · 26/02/2013 13:08

Yes the painkillers line is good!

shredded I was bad and I laughed at his bloody and scabby nipples Blush and I said now he knows how I felt with nine years of bfeeding! Apparently Vaseline prevents nipple rub...

Yes I use mapmyrun, its good but not when its cloudy!

Blatherskite · 26/02/2013 13:10

Just don't tell them when you did it. Problem solved Grin

I'd get a taxi or a lift though. If you can't walk on it, you certainly shouldn't be controlling a ton of speeding metal with it!!

GlaikitFizzog · 26/02/2013 13:11

Moron injuries?Confused I meant minor, but in this instance moron is probably more apt!

As luck would have it my HV just called about DS so I asked her and she says our a&e is a minor injuries unit not a&e Confused no blue lights get sent there apparently! So I should just be able to go and get seen. Going to have lunch first then go.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 26/02/2013 13:17

I have a garmin, which doesn't work very well with all the tall buildings around me. I use mapmyrun when I get home to see how far I've been.

I've never run far enough to get bleeding nipples (and intend to avoid them!), but I had some horrible rashes from my bra chafing around the band until I discovered body glide (probably posh vaseline, expensively packaged for runners Grin).

Totally OT, but you have reminded me of when DS2 was a few days old (we were still in hospital, so he must have been very new). He brought up some blood when I burped him. I had a huge panic, until the nurse pointed out that it was the blood he was swallowing from my bleeding nipples that was coming back up Envy.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 26/02/2013 13:18

Glaikit - off you go then!

GlaikitFizzog · 26/02/2013 13:28

I'm going! I am taking provisions with me!

Re driving, car is automatic and it my left foot that's sore, so I'll be ok! It was more the walk fro. The hospital car park that was bothering me!

GlaikitFizzog · 26/02/2013 14:52

xrayed and waiting to see a doc. Sad

BIWI · 26/02/2013 14:54

Sounds like you were at least seen quickly, though, Glaikit

GlaikitFizzog · 26/02/2013 15:02

yeah I'm quite surprised actually. wouldn't have been as quick on Saturday! cm is keeping ds til I'm done. please send intact bone vibes! I cannot be in plaster with a 21 month old to chase after.
god a&e is a boring place to be!

tv is only showing ambulance chaser adverts.Grin

5madthings · 26/02/2013 15:03

That was quick! Fingers crossed you don't need a cast, tho you do get to have them in lovely col ours nowadays!

BIWI · 26/02/2013 15:12

You might get one of those fetching big plastic boots!

GlaikitFizzog · 26/02/2013 15:19

nice! hop along boot? I'm at least hoping for a rooftop and crutches!

there isn't a cloud in the sky here today.

GlaikitFizzog · 26/02/2013 15:19

roof top should read tubi grip

BIWI · 26/02/2013 15:25

of course it should Grin
