Woolly Hugs Guide to Running

  1. Put down your woolly wool, crochet hooks and needles.
  2. Find your trainers, these are sort of soft bouncy shoe-things that go on your feet.
  3. Find something loose and comfortable to wear, and no we don't mean a caftan.
  4. Open front door and go outside Shock
  5. Put one foot in front of the other with speed and determination!

YOU are RUNNING!!

If you haven't seen Phase 2 of our Little Hugs, the thread is HERE. We launched this phase as a tribute to beautiful Billie, our lovely MrsDeVere's daughter, who devastatingly died at 14 from leukaemia. We launched this at the time of her 21st birthday and we call the project Billie's Blankets in her memory. In her name, and through World Child Cancer, we will send little blankets to children, starting with Malawi and Bangladesh, who really need a Woolly Hug and to feel loved and looked after.

Alongside Billie's Blankets, we are very keen to send a donation to World Child Cancer, as money is scarce, they really have so little. One of the ways we will do this is by running! In May a Woolly Hugs' team will be running the BUPA London 10k, and we are now looking for runners to enter 5K runs throughout the country.

These are where the 5K runs will take place?.. They are all over!

There are already runners committed to running (BIWI, TantrumsandBalloons,me) in London at Crystal Palace on October 13th, and lovely Fizzy and PrettyBird are running in the Glasgow event on July 27th. We would love folk to join with us, or run at a different venue! There is no minimum age and children can be entered, my daughter is running with me, I say with, she will shoot off like a gazelle and I will lumber along. Happily the website says they love fancy dress

Because World Child Cancer isn't a nominated charity we/they ask that you let them know independently. To take pressure off individuals, and to make this a real woolly community effort we recommend that you use our Woolly Hugs Just Giving page for fundraising. Anything you raise will be marvellous, really, and we will all be able to see how much we can raise together.

Our Just Giving Page is HERE Donations are welcome at any time, huge thanks for those already in.

So please have a think, if you are interested, we would recommend entering soon to avoid disappointment. Let us know when you have entered so we can cheer you on, and please use this thread for support, and general running things Couch to 5K apps and playlists for running spring to mind.

The children that WCC support need all the love and comfort possible. So please, in memory of a sparkling young girl who always thought of others, we'd love you to help us help them.

As ever, thank you so much for your support Thanks

Thinking of Billie and her family Xx

Knotty and Pistey

Thanks

Well be careful Fizzy. DH has been ignoring a dodgy knee for ages and is now paying the price. He's not been able to run since November, needs an op and will not be able to run again for 6-9 months afterwards Shock. He's not a happy bunny Smile.

GlaikitFizzog · 24/02/2013 18:10

I will! Dh has decided I have the same injury he had recently, from playing football, not wearing heels. I'll keep an eye on it and will go to the docs if no better in a few days.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 24/02/2013 18:39

Grin at football playing, heel wearing husbands Grin

prettybird · 24/02/2013 19:37

Shredded - sometimes going out for a run and cursing the initial stiffness is the best thing to loosen you up. Smile

Glaikit - take it easy and look after yourself - and go and see someone if it doesn't get any better

Day 7 of antibiotics and I'm still coughing. Sad

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 24/02/2013 19:42

You're right pretty. I will either shred or do a yoga DVD later if I don't make myself go out for a run.

Week 4 starts for me today [gulp]

Blatherskite · 25/02/2013 11:54

Thanks Shredded. Tomorrow is a new day run and I shall try again.

In fact, I've sorted myself out with a Mother's Day treat for the 10th and have signed up for a local 10k. It's not an early start and will give me a good hour of peace and quiet and an excuse for a guilt free lunch out with the children once I've burnt off all of those calories. It's for Clic Sergeant.

I shredded this morning too. I had last week off as it was just too hard to try and fit it in without the kids "helping" and I could really tell as it was hard work!

BIWI · 25/02/2013 11:56

Are you feeling better today, Blathers?

5madthings · 25/02/2013 12:25

I shall.be going out later today, i keep thinking i will be all motivated and get up and run first thing in the morning but its not happening... am not a morning person

Hope poorly and injured people are better asap xx

I am Grin as today i am wearing size 10 jeans, slight muffin top but size 12 kept falling down. So the running is doing some good... Not sure that maryland cookies and a cup of tea were the healthiest bfast today tho Blush

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 25/02/2013 12:35

Morning! Glad to hear you sounding more positive Blathers.

Enjoy your run 5mad. Well done on the weight loss!

I hope to run this evening, although I have a list of chores as long as my arm which need doing first I may need to take a long lunch.

Blatherskite · 25/02/2013 12:54

I've been feeling much better recently BIWI which is partly why Saturday rubbish run was so confusing/frustrating.

MegBusset · 25/02/2013 13:41

Brrrr... Cold out there today, and windy. Had to cut my run short after 20 mins as I developed horrible stitch that I couldn't get rid of. Not one of my most enjoyable runs!

BIWI · 25/02/2013 13:51

Just about to go out and start week 4 ...

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/02/2013 15:57

you back yet?

5madthings · 25/02/2013 16:04

I am waiting for dp to get in and then I will go out, have ds4 asleep on the sofa Ashe was sent home from school at lunchtime having puked everywhere, no more puke but he is obviously not right.

Its solo cold out, once I get going will become but even getting undressed to put on my running stuff isn't appealing in this temp!

How was week four biwi I start wk four on wed, as digit a run behind when I was poorly. Wk threehasbedn fine tho and I have added on extra at the end so hoping wk four will be OK..

5madthings · 25/02/2013 16:18

I am just looking at wk 5 seems OK on w5 run1 is jog five mins etc, then run two is jogging for 8 mins... And then wk five run three is run for 20mins!! That seems a bit of a leap....

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/02/2013 16:30

There is a jump like that in C25K, I remember thinking WTAF Confused

OP posts:
5madthings · 25/02/2013 16:33

Yes I am thinking wtf but hoping it won't kill me. I have found it fine so far and have been running more than it says and adding on a bit of time at then so averaging a 40min run rather than half an hour so hopefully wk five won't kill me!

BIWI · 25/02/2013 17:43

I am back! No need for Lassie.

(Soz - didn't check the thread Grin)

Well, it was fine - doable and I didn't die. Does make you realise that 5 minutes is a long time though.

I'm a bit worried about how quickly it ramps up after this week though.

Tell me, those of you who have been running for a while/started off with C25K, at what point did it suddenly click/get easier for you?

5madthings · 25/02/2013 18:43

I too am back. My app stopped working! So i just ran until i couldnt then walked til.i got my breathe back then ran again. I did my usual 5.2 km but in a quicker time i know as normally as i go past the garden centre it my music playlist is on will smith. This time i was almost home before it got to that track.

biwi i am finding it ok so far but think wk five will kill me!

BIWI · 25/02/2013 19:29

I'm wishing I hadn't read ahead to week 5 - think I would be better off not knowing for the moment/until I've finished this week!

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 25/02/2013 23:40

The thing is, by the tine you get to the big long run, your body can do it and it;s just a psychological barrier by then - and you CAN do it!

Sorry to hear of cold, stitches and poorly children. I didn't run yesterday and have been hobbling like an old lady all day (I had a long walk at lunchtime). So I'm going out in a bit for a little jog.

BIWI · 25/02/2013 23:44

I think you're definitely right about the psychological thing, Neither.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 26/02/2013 00:00

It's true BIWI Grin. Pistey said so on our C25K thread ages ago Smile
