Woolly Hugs Guide to Running

  1. Put down your woolly wool, crochet hooks and needles.
  2. Find your trainers, these are sort of soft bouncy shoe-things that go on your feet.
  3. Find something loose and comfortable to wear, and no we don't mean a caftan.
  4. Open front door and go outside Shock
  5. Put one foot in front of the other with speed and determination!

YOU are RUNNING!!

If you haven't seen Phase 2 of our Little Hugs, the thread is HERE. We launched this phase as a tribute to beautiful Billie, our lovely MrsDeVere's daughter, who devastatingly died at 14 from leukaemia. We launched this at the time of her 21st birthday and we call the project Billie's Blankets in her memory. In her name, and through World Child Cancer, we will send little blankets to children, starting with Malawi and Bangladesh, who really need a Woolly Hug and to feel loved and looked after.

Alongside Billie's Blankets, we are very keen to send a donation to World Child Cancer, as money is scarce, they really have so little. One of the ways we will do this is by running! In May a Woolly Hugs' team will be running the BUPA London 10k, and we are now looking for runners to enter 5K runs throughout the country.

These are where the 5K runs will take place?.. They are all over!

There are already runners committed to running (BIWI, TantrumsandBalloons,me) in London at Crystal Palace on October 13th, and lovely Fizzy and PrettyBird are running in the Glasgow event on July 27th. We would love folk to join with us, or run at a different venue! There is no minimum age and children can be entered, my daughter is running with me, I say with, she will shoot off like a gazelle and I will lumber along. Happily the website says they love fancy dress

Because World Child Cancer isn't a nominated charity we/they ask that you let them know independently. To take pressure off individuals, and to make this a real woolly community effort we recommend that you use our Woolly Hugs Just Giving page for fundraising. Anything you raise will be marvellous, really, and we will all be able to see how much we can raise together.

Our Just Giving Page is HERE Donations are welcome at any time, huge thanks for those already in.

So please have a think, if you are interested, we would recommend entering soon to avoid disappointment. Let us know when you have entered so we can cheer you on, and please use this thread for support, and general running things Couch to 5K apps and playlists for running spring to mind.

The children that WCC support need all the love and comfort possible. So please, in memory of a sparkling young girl who always thought of others, we'd love you to help us help them.

As ever, thank you so much for your support Thanks

Thinking of Billie and her family Xx

Knotty and Pistey

Thanks

Nice shoes!

Hope you are feeling better 5madthings.

5madthings · 13/02/2013 15:18

I just feel tired and drippy. Have parents eve for ds1 this eve, think after that I will do an exercise DVD rather than go running in the cold as my nose is just pouring Envy and then do wk2 run2 tomorrow, wish the weather would improve its bloody cold!

BIWI · 13/02/2013 17:59

It is cold - but it is just almost spring! I ran past lots of daffodils in bud today, and the roses are all starting to grow. I hate the cold, but actually enjoyed being outside today.

Re shoes - what do you all do about cleaning your running shoes? It was really muddy/boggy and my shoes are absolutely covered in mud. I've left them to dry and some of it has dropped off. Do you just put them back on again or is there some way to clean them? (The man in the running shop looked horrified when I asked him if they could go in the washing machine Grin)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 13/02/2013 18:59

Leave them to dry and then bang them together I reckon BIWI

Hope you are feeling better 5mad X

Bang them together/use an old dustpan brush or nail brush to brush it off when dry.

Its 1deg here and feels like we may get snow..

I feel OK, and rather Grin after ds1's parents evening. Very proud mummy, he may be a sullen teen for me but he is a delight at school :) seriously impressed so once I have got the four little ones to bed ds1 and I are ordering a pizza as a treat! Do is at work but will be back so I can go running tomorrow morning after school drop off.

Well done all who made it out in the cold today :)

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 13/02/2013 21:59

What pistey and 5mad said. Followed by the washing machine Grin.

prettybird · 13/02/2013 22:59

When they're much older you can put them in the washing machine. For now, just let the mud dry and brush off as much as you can if you want the white bits white again, I've heard that toothpaste can be effective.

You'll be surprised at how the shoes magically seem to clean themselves as you run especially if it's raining

Next time avoid the mud Grin

BIWI · 14/02/2013 09:03

Avoiding mud wasn't an option yesterday! Grin

In fact part of my run wasn't so much running as hop, skip and jumping around huge puddles. Quite fun actually.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 14/02/2013 09:19

Yes, the mud's the best bit Grin.

I am getting cabin feverish with 2 x DCs on half term who only want to stay indoors and play computer games. I will go out later and will try to bribe them to come too.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 14/02/2013 14:56

I did 5K . Boys lasted 10 mins playing footie in the mud before getting bored.

BIWI · 14/02/2013 16:00

Brilliant!

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 14/02/2013 17:07

DH will be home tomorrow and will make them get some fresh air and exercise Grin.

EarnestDullard · 14/02/2013 20:15

Did 3 miles without stopping today! Also Shredded yesterday and Tuesday. DH has left for 8 days in Australia now though, so opportunities to exercise might be thin on the ground till he's back.

MegBusset · 14/02/2013 21:39

Well done all you runners :) I did 5k today too. Now undoing all the good work with champagne

Half term for us next week and DH is away two days so not sure if/when I'll get to run...

MegBusset · 16/02/2013 13:25

Week 10 is three times 15 mins' running. Eep!

MegBusset · 18/02/2013 08:41

Got up at 7am and ran 5k before breakfast

How's everyone else doing??

5madthings · 18/02/2013 08:53

I shall be going out later, i am still in bed like normal people should be as its the holidays i am not some wierd freak like meg

BIWI · 18/02/2013 08:56

Week 3 starts for me today. It should have really been yesterday, but we went out for lunch (we normally go out for dinner) and roast beef and half a bottle of read meant that the afternoon was spent in front of the telly Blush

Although I did knit

BIWI · 18/02/2013 08:56

Apparently I have to run non-stop for 3 minutes today! Shock [faint]
