Following on from the terrible news of the loss of Mumof2TeenBoys' ds, a new Woolly Hugs project has been started and, as ever, MNers have stepped up to offer whatever little comfort we can to Mumof and her family. We also keep close in our thoughts Aillidh, the dd of expatinscotland, who died yesterday.

We've put together some general info mostly about knitting but with some crochet bits thrown in, which should get you started but please feel free to ask for any help - I'm not sure if the crocheters are going to set up a new support thread but their current one is found here.

Please dive in - we will inevitably end up talking bollocks rubbish at some point but all are welcome aboard.

Chipmonkey thats fab. It's an Irish thing Pistey I cant even think about sleeping in a bed without ironed sheets and duvet cover or imagine not having a freshly ironed teatowel to dry dishes with i shudder with horror at the very thought of it all

soremummy · 16/07/2012 22:16

Purple dont even talk about crochet stuff its doing my head in im just jealous at what you can achieve but I stillthink I have to use 2 needles i get better results fro them

soremummy · 16/07/2012 22:19

Maybe if I did less ironing thenI would actually be able to do proper crochet? Now theres a thought

chipmonkey · 16/07/2012 22:19

Ah, Jaysus, soremummy, I do draw the line at ironing sheets!

soremummy · 16/07/2012 22:22

chipmonkey · 16/07/2012 22:26

PurplePidjin · 16/07/2012 22:28

Chip, that's fabulous! It'll get flattened by the weight of it's friends either side, don't worry Thanks

soremummy · 16/07/2012 22:28

lol at Jayus Me mammy isn't even cold in the grave yet but she would be turning and rising from the dead to clatter me for not ironing sheets Dont worry people it's Irish humour (she died 8 wk ago but yes she would probably batter the head off me for not ironing the sheets) think if Chipmonkey was born and reared in Ireland she gets the drift [:)] and knows its nots offensive to anyone

soremummy · 16/07/2012 22:29

I don't iron anything! Blush

I haven't done a single stitch tonight due to a horrible long day in work. Will crack on during DDs nap tomorrow.

Everyone's squares look fab, I'm so impressed!

KnottyLocks · 16/07/2012 22:55

Chip, my lovely, I have summat I can try with that there square. For heaven's sake, do not iron it! Grin

chipmonkey · 16/07/2012 23:14

Thanks, Knotty
It is annoying though, I am clearly doing something wrong but even when I think I'm allowing enough tension with the other colour, I must not be!

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 16/07/2012 23:17

Soremummy, I never iron anything, I was only saying today how I only iron if dp is in court :o maybe I'm not Oirish enough...
Square started tonight, but proving to be more complicated than I thought... may have to rethink....

RatherBeOnThePiste · 17/07/2012 06:15

Sad Joyful - big hug for you my lovely X

DancesWithWoolsEnPointe · 17/07/2012 07:00

I iron nothing. DH irons his own work clothes, everything else gets a shake. I had an Irish granny, hope she isn't spinning...

My ballerina square is a disaster Sad. It is a reverse silhouette of a dancer that is supposed to pop out of a stocking stitch square. Due to the retarded odd way I knit, the silhouette pattern pops forward sometimes and backwards other Angry. It has been mistaken for a frog and an elephant so far. I tried to embroidery around the edge in a different colour to emphasize it, but now it looks like a map of some random Island. I'm most upset. I am going to try a different stitch of embroidery tonight to see if it is more subtle but am most disappointed.

I feel I might have to learn to knit properly if I want to do complex things. In which case I may as well learn to crochet instead, as you can't teach an old dog new tricks and all that not that I'm old of course and I really like all the hooky squares being posted at the moment.

KnottyLocks · 17/07/2012 07:06

Joyful sending warm thoughts your way. I am 'allergic' to the iron! Much to my mothers disgust! I do do it occasionally... Chip I love your square and could only imagine doing one like it, I just wouldn't know where to start!

tribpot · 17/07/2012 09:25

Joyful, so sorry to hear of your loss.

Dances - I think that is the nature of a pattern on a stocking stitch (or reverse stocking stitch) background, i don't think you've done anything wrong.

Ravelry has just presented me with a list of illusion patterns as its 'something random' if anyone wants to have a flick through.

chipmonkey - how are you carrying the colours across when you're doing the Hello Kitty? Are you catching them every few stitches and maybe making it a bit tight?
