and also Bobwilson123 on youtube/fb/twitter/the world... They're slow, clear and really easy to copy - AND they do left handed versions which I can copy!
Alambil · 13/03/2012 20:05

I lied - bobwilson taught me how to read a pattern (her one piece wonder baby bootie video, to be precise!) and then I found simple patterns online and practised

Hello KnottyLocks and Pistey.

Nervous beginner knitter reporting progress.

Am halfway through moss stitch square feeling a bit intimidated Blush by some of the lovely squares on proper knitters profiles.

There will be some unregarded corner for the likes of mine?

TimeForCake · 13/03/2012 20:12

LewisFan - patterns are totally befuddling so thank you, will look at that. Thanks

KnottyLocks · 13/03/2012 20:14

Oi! Rosie!

We'll be having of that negative warbling about unregarded corners on this thread. We will not have it, I tell you.

Repeat after me:

Simple squares are GOOD. Simple squares are ESSENTIAL.

The first square I made for a blanket was moss stitch. Tis a loverly stitch, all snuggly like.

OP posts:
KnottyLocks · 13/03/2012 20:17

And loads of people have learnt to knit and crochet to be a part of the blanket posse. It's the thought and heart that counts here. Smile

Quite agree - and if you want something a little different to try, how about Chinese Waves? One of our crew on the support thread is doing that one right now. Come on over if you need a hand!

Although they are not necessarily very competent ...

TimeForCake · 13/03/2012 21:44

Or at all competent! Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 13/03/2012 21:57

Rosie - my square is just plain knitting stitch, that's all I can do, it has slightly dodgy casting on and one edge looks rather dubious. But, I made it with love for MrsK and her family. That's the important bit.

Just off to check PMs

Thanks

Morning Smile

Off to work shortly but will check in at lunchtime.

So here's to lumpy squares with dubious edges. And here's to MrsK. :(

KnottyLocks · 14/03/2012 07:05

Rosie, dodgy edges are fine as they'll be covered by the crochet seam.

I can always stick a Twitterbird, flower or similar on the squares.

Stop worrying Smile

Just checking PMs , fingers crossed for a PM problem free day!
Back at lunchtime...

alibubbles · 14/03/2012 08:22

simple square Jolly good as I have lost my heart pattern and need to get knitting!

tribpot · 14/03/2012 08:28

alibubbles, Gleaming has published a very straightforward, pretty heart pattern on our support thread - the details of it are here. She also has a picture of it on her profile - it's the fourth one down.

GleamingHeels · 14/03/2012 09:26

Go on Ali, I need a tester!

MadameMessy · 14/03/2012 12:05

hi, I posted off four squares this morning, got another one out of the remaining wool last night surprising :) don't freak out when you get them knotty, they definitely stretch to 6 inches! I wanted to block them so much, to make them all match!

LinzerTorte · 14/03/2012 13:15

My lovely ball of purple arrived this morning - thanks, Pistey. Thanks

Have just knitted five rows but they only came to 5.5" so I've unravelled it and am on my second attempt. I've cast on an extra three stitches, but am now worried it might be a bit much...
