So what's the 'update'?

JKR is very angry. She's especially angry with women who won't agree with her that trans people are a danger. She thinks these women must live in an elite bubble where violence never happens.

Or maybe, just maybe they live in the real world not a castle & never noticed a dangerous trans woman.

Yes indeed Joanne, experience does shape one's perceptions.

The last trans woman I met was a sex offender.

CoolforKats · 21/10/2026 21:56

So what's the real reason for the 'update'? To warm over cold left overs? I think not. This is a highly strategic individual.

Maybe JKR is raging that the trans panic has lost steam/public interest (read: her personal relevance as defender of the faith) & this is a desperate attempt resuscitate it? The minions have lost interest in their shiny toy & moved on to other rage bait?

Oh well, such is the life span of a news cycle nowadays that even a billionaire can't buy…

Yet she still appears to live rent free in your head. Must be annoying.

Maybe's she pissed off by public bodies continuing to break the law, knowing that it's tax payers' money they'll be wasting as the court cases roll around.

God knows, I'm angry, so can 100% understand why she would be.

Such are the consequences of vague impractical laws that implicate public bodies. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

GreyskySexRealistsky · 21/10/2026 22:04

Howse that? 🤔

Clearly not the experience of the masses of disinterested women in this issue.

As JKR said, experience shapes our fears.

You haven't read what she actually wrote, have you?
It's almost as if you already had a 'JKR-response' all primed and ready, and actually reading, absorbing and understanding what she actually wrote would be a waste of time.

Note that anyone is free to read, absorb and understand what JKR wrote, and then disagree with it, argue against it, critique it.

But superficial reflex negative responses which don't engage with the actual text as written don't carry much weight .

Vargas · 21/10/2026 22:07

Genuinely one of most admirable women, nay people, in the world. Absolute queen.

I always wonder if the people who won't read what she writes are actually terrified that they might agree with her.

Oh I read it alright. Must be very disheartening as it was for Churchill (who she ironically & hilariously compared herself to) to be 'cast aside' by all the 'ingrates'.

Maybe rallying the 'troops' with this inspiring war cry will do it!

Large numbers of women who’ve never been poor, who’ve never worked the kind of job where they’d be vulnerable to predatory men and who’ve never needed a rape crisis centre have spent the last few years vilifying members of their own sex for fighting to retain their hard-won rights and single-sex spaces, in ways that have shocked and disgusted me. I freely confess that I feel an extra layer of abhorrence for any woman who claims to be a feminist while doing it.

Brava, my sentiments exactly 👏

Mine too.

Cattywillow · 21/10/2026 22:14

So good. And as always so well expressed.

“As George Orwell said, ‘freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two is four. If that is granted, all else follows.’ If a man can be a woman, there is no such thing as a woman. That might not matter to you personally, but it matters to millions of women who don’t have the luxury of pretending that their sex doesn’t matter. I remain on their side.”

Simply wonderful.

I'm not sure she herself responded to news of a school simultaneously dropping her name and Churchill's as house names. There was a fair amount of humorous commentary on JKR and Churchill being victims of 'cancel culture'.

You'll struggle to make a character smear out of this very minor story! But, since you don't seem to understand the meaning of 'irony', I'll leave you with your misplaced sense of smug cleverness.

ArabellaScott · 21/10/2026 22:22

heathspeedwell · 21/10/2026 18:23

She's so succinct:

"People who preen themselves on being bold champions of the vulnerable rail against women like me for the crime of speaking well-evidenced facts. For instance, there is zero evidence that trans-identified men don’t share the same pattern of criminality as all other men. On the contrary, all the evidence points the other way. ‘No predator needs to transition to gain access to women and girls,’ say the trans activists. But the question is not ‘do they need to?’ It’s ‘do they ever?’ And the answer is, unequivocally and tragically, yes.

Does this mean all trans-identified men are predators? Of course not. Should trans people be discriminated against when it comes to housing or employment? Of course not. Should trans people be stripped of their human rights, or denied personal safety? Again: of course not. But the statistics don’t lie: men as a group pose a risk to women and girls, as a group. Of course, all men aren’t rapists, voyeurs or flashers, but enough are to make safeguarding necessary. That’s why women and girls want separate changing rooms and public bathrooms. That’s why women need male-free spaces when seeking to recover their sense of self and safety after rape. Not because we hate trans people, not because we want them dead, not because we want them somehow eradicated from existence, but because women and girls have specific issues and needs that men do not, even if they’re calling themselves women and even if they’ve taken cross-sex hormones."

I think thats the first time I've ever heard her called 'succint'! 😂

She writes the line about death and rape threats lightly, but I can only imagine how it has been to have been made into a hate figure. By people who can barely suppress their seething hatred of a woman who is articulate and successful.

And by a bunch of people who really are hypocrites and bastards of the highest order.

OK, I accept that you read it; but your response didn't engage with what it actually said, you just expressed your low opinion of JKR.

Your low opinion of JKR and a rational argument against the points she makes could co-exist, you know.
You went for the easy option, the low-opinion-of-JKR option.
Fair enough, that's your choice, but it doesn't so much miss the point, as ignore the point completely.

It would be interesting to read a rebuttal of the things JKR wrote for a change, rather than predictable negative statements about the woman herself.

You must of missed that there was a fair amount of humorous commentary of Rowling a billionaire smoking a cigar on a super yacht quoting Churchill's

"I love it when a plan comes together".

JKR was certainly onto something about elites.

Iamnotalemming · 21/10/2026 22:34

Also, JKR is brilliant. Thank you, Jo. Her insight into where the pleas for help with discrimination cases are coming from is both depressing and not surprising.
