Thank you JKR for your powerful update and continuing to stand for women and our rights, for funding charities, for funding women to fight cases they should never have been faced with. Also for the laughs you have given in your responses sometimes to the ridiculous attacks on you. At times when I've felt despair at the supposedly intelligent people, in positions of authority, who have fallen for this ridiculous fantasy, your words have helped keep me going. And thanks to everyone on this thread for the Churchill theme, I love it! Just getting over Covid and I needed a laugh!

...in an unmoored world, where vanishingly few are prepared to whisper the truth let alone speak up clearly, she's absolutely needed.

💯

JKR must be the greatest example of action/reaction.
I believe she must be the most vilified public figure in my lifetime, if you're to believe (im)polite society, she's more toxic than Savile, Tate, Epstein and Weinstein combined.
That can only come as a reaction to genuine positive groundbreaking and historic change that she's wrought and represents.
I've never been one to look for heroes in life, even role models didn't seem to be needed.
I was wrong, in an unmoored world, where vanishingly few are prepared to whisper the truth let alone speak up clearly, she's absolutely needed.
The endless thunder against her, and the prolonged cheers for her, speaks absolute volumes, literally, about her unique position as vanguard of a liberal Enlightenment hugely at risk.

They are all men so they will never be hated as much as a single woman saying no.

And honestly, there are plenty of people (men) who admire these four men for the glamour, money and fame they once had. The ability to do what they wanted when they wanted and who stuck a finger up at the establishment. Versus "mummy" who said no, don't be mean and stop ogling at the girls.

Sorry folks, posted this in reaction to the photo of Mr T dressed as Churchill. It came out in the wrong place. Still haven't got the hang of this Internet thingy 🥴

The point you are missing is we don't fear all men the same. Being alone with a old man or gay man or well dressed man or trans woman doesn't inspire the fear in people on the ground hence the support of trans women.

JKR's generalisations about men don't work in reality when it comes to personal experiences. Context matters.

Good God. This person can't be dealing plainly surely?

The man who sexually assaulted me when I was 12 was old and wearing a very expensive suit. I wasn't even alone with him; he did it in front of my cousin in a semi-secluded part of a public garden.

My God, the idiocy.

Oooh. I saw them last year, brilliant. Though I liked them more before they dropped the live canon. They were supporting The Misplaced Pronouns.

Definitely. That long bagpipe solo was ill advised in my opinion.

I've just re-read the JKR piece, her follow up to 2020. It's even more powerful second time around, she hits every target that needs criticism without once showing anything other than common humanity to trans IDing people who may be struggling.
From the TRAs who harassed Beira's Place refuge, to those elites insulated from the down sides ordinary women face, and especially women who have taken on it themselves to farm out women's spaces and rights to men, here is reserved her ire.
But again, in the brilliant style we've come to expect, there's no venting, there's a calm, sanity and reality based analysis and critique of the whole movement, and especially the women of the credentialized classes who will stop at nothing to destroy women's rights.
A hero in an age without heros.

JKR is brilliant. Anyone who thinks otherwise is unhinged.

The addled TRAs really can't stand calm sanity, can they.

Hedgehogforshort · 22/10/2026 21:26

I was thinking about this. JKR managed in, her essay to capture all the issues and challenges for the fight back and all the women involved and those who, for whatever reason, could not.

it will be beyond the comprehension of TRA’s because they believe they have wide public support.

but they reside in the same bubble as the handmaidens, and the cheering compliant men.

so they will have no clue what JKR is on about, especially when it comes to class.

It was the kazoo duet that did it for me.

Wishesandhorses · 22/10/2026 21:39

Quick whizz through the update - won't be exactly accurate but general skim as this occured to me:

3 paragraphs mentioning men with trans identities
8 mentioning transactivism (in an article describing the problems of political transactivism for women)
20 mentioning women's needs, perspectives, issues

transactivism - sees this as all and only about men with gender identities, with them being the only relevant topic or focus.

Which proves JKR's point for her really.

Catiette · 22/10/2026 22:04

Enjoyed reading it. It's always somehow a relief to see it set out so clearly, and a fresh revelation every damn time to read the Reddit take. The two set alongside each other speak volumes.

Transgender reddit doesn't do them any favours by not allowing dissenting voices. I know the TRAs on here can drive us nuts, but they play their part in keeping us on track and focused. Transgender redditors are in a very unhealthy online environment.

As a case in point on dissenting views - I loved the kazoo duet. That moment the hurdygurdy came in? With the key change?

Exquisite.
