I suppose you could at least praise them for their staying power at the looney-bar. They've come right out with it now though, no mincing about the edges of vague #BeKind nice-speak.

(Interesting to note they STILL don't get the EHRC guidance only serves the ACTUAL LAW though, withdrawn, live or written in Swahili)

Give biological men legal right to compete in women’s sport, say Greens
Motion for conference claims current rules rooted in ‘historical colonial and Eurocentric attitudes’ and ‘transmisogyny’

The Green Party would give biological men a legal right to compete in women’s sports under proposals drawn up by its members.

The plans, which could become party policy within weeks, would “extend trans people’s rights” so they can compete in the categories “they feel most comfortable in”.

The proposals have been submitted for debate at the Green Party conference in October, as an amendment to another motion calling for an end to “gender-based blanket bans” in sport.

Under new government guidance published this year, public bodies must ensure sports teams are segregated based on biological sex, not gender identity.

Several sporting bodies – which set the official rules for UK competitions – have also updated their policies after the Supreme Court ruled last April that the words “woman” and “sex” in the Equality Act 2010 refer to a biological woman and biological sex.

Proponents say the changes are necessary to protect the integrity of women’s sports and keep female athletes safe.

However, the Green Party motion warns that sporting bans at “any level” have “serious consequences” for the physical and mental health of trans people. It also suggests that rules against biological men competing in female categories are rooted in “historical colonial and Eurocentric attitudes”, as well as “transmisogyny”.

The motion ‘Oppose Gender-Based Blanket Bans in Sport’ was submitted by Melissa Harker, the Greens’ first openly transgender councillor in the North East
In the long term, the amended motion urges the party to “legislate to protect and extend trans people’s rights to participate in sports in the gender categories they feel most comfortable in”.

In the short term, it calls for the Greens to campaign against “the complete or near-complete exclusion” of trans people from competing “in line with their lived gender” in any professional sport.

The original version of the motion – titled “Oppose Gender-Based Blanket Bans in Sport” – has been approved for debate at the Green Party conference in October. However, the likelihood of it being heard depends on where it falls on the final agenda.

It was submitted by Melissa Harker, the Greens’ first openly transgender councillor in the North East, and was backed by 48 members. The amendment, which was proposed by Anna Di Bona, has 11 supporters – including Harker.

The synopsis states: “Sport allows people to stay physically and mentally healthy. Sporting bans at any level, especially attacking trans people, have serious consequences for gender diverse and global majority peoples’ mental and physical health. We need to stop blanket bans, and hold sporting bodies accountable.”

The motion calls for all sporting bodies that have introduced bans against trans athletes – either directly or indirectly – to “publicly disclose all scientific evidence they based this decision on”.

It also demands an independent inquiry into the development of recent blanket bans “to ensure transparency and compliance with equalities obligations”.

The Green Party has already called for the withdrawal of the official guidance on single-sex sports teams, which was issued by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) earlier this year.

Claire Coutinho, the shadow equalities minister, said: “The Green Party’s refusal to accept that there are biological differences between men and women will only serve to erase women’s spaces and women’s sports.

“Women shouldn’t be forced to compete against anyone who has a sex-based advantage in sport. It undermines fairness in sports and puts women’s safety at risk. We must have boundaries that protect women and girls from harm.”

A Green Party spokesman said: “The Green Party believes that the EHRC guidance should be withdrawn, and that trans women are women, trans men are men and that non-binary identities exist and are valid.”

The Green Party is full of idiots. The only other explanation is that they are actually aliens from another planet (which is why they no longer pretend to care about this planet).

"...Sporting bans at any level, especially attacking trans people, have serious consequences for gender diverse and global majority peoples’ mental and physical health. We need to stop blanket bans, and hold sporting bodies accountable.” [my bold]

No ban on 25 year olds playing in U21 teams?
No ban on a 43 year old man playing on a children's team?
No ban on able bodied people playing in a sport specifically established to allow disabled people to play?
No ban on a 22 year old woman playing on a team for over-60s women?
No ban on recruiting 6 men instead of 6 women for a women's volleyball team?
No ban on men beating the crap out of women in women's boxing?
No ban on men winning every single women's sports prize going?

No blanket bans, Green Party?

Great, let's see how you react when your 9 year old daughter gets her teeth knocked out by a 15 year old boy who is allowed to play for the other team in your daughter's primary school football match.

Or when the other primary school's team wins everything because they have substituted adult parents for every single child on their team.

Idiots.

To be fair that is not Green policy.

The way the Green Party is run lets any idiot put forward any motion they like to be voted on at conference to become policy.

It think it's bad enough that the party appears to be made up of cranks, but I'll wait for the outcome of the vote to decide how bad they actually are.

I think they're quickly making themselves look unelectable.

zurigo · 31/08/2026 14:21

Let's hope now the Greens are showing their true colours people will stop voting for them and realise what utter bellends they are!

Wishesandhorses · 31/08/2026 14:23

'Fuck that', say women.

YourWatermelonship · 31/08/2026 14:24

As a left-wing gender critical woman, watching the greens self destruct is a strange mixture of sad and compelling

After the heatwaves we've had this summer climate change is on everyone's minds in the UK. The green party should be capitalising on this. Sadly they lack both green policies and leaders with any intelligence.

Yes, this is my understanding.

However, it must waste a lot of time, and from a PR point of view, it makes them look like nuts.

Also could one really propose "the UK needs to do more fracking"?

singthing · 31/08/2026 14:44

I found this list of motions from a couple of months ago too. It's not official (or perhaps not even up to date), in that the OP has made personal remarks on several, but a good indication of things the members want to talk about.

A quick and dirty count shows 10-12 are focusing on 'traditional' Green topics.
The rest could largely be dumped into the Social Justice/Omnicause bucket (or Green infighting and politics)

I think this bunch of loonies would actually sacrifice their 9 year old daughter to their sense of righteousness. It makes me shudder.

Have we learnt nothing since the times of Moloch-Baal (or the times in which a fathers sent his daughter into a convent so that the father might earn a special pass to paradise)?

I would add to that list the following:
I think the Greens should oppose the arbitrary blanket ban, clearly derived from historical colonial and Eurocentric attitudes, on a football player being in the attacking half and closer to the opposing team's goal-line than both the ball and the second-last opponent.

The word "transmisogyny" comes from men not letting women have anything, anything at all, of our own. Even a word for how they mistreat us

tartyflette · 31/08/2026 15:10

That would gain huge amounts of votes in an election. Not.
Bye-bye women’s sport.

Agreed, at a time when we really need a sensible green party with green policies all they seem able to do is fire up the bat-shit signal and randomly point it into the night sky.

Trans activists keep going on about how sport is a human right. Well, i was no good at sport at school, didn't make any of the teams. No one was that bothered about making sure that I had sporting opportunities. Yet unsporty boys must be able to play. Hm......

They also seem oblivious to the fact that women who identify as trans also rely on female sports categories to compete.

Yes, and that ''sport is so important for the mental and physical well-being of trans youth.
Fine. Nobody's stopping them playing any sport they want.
In the correct category.

That caught my eye too, and sent my bolloxometer into the red zone. I could only decrypt it with the help of AI which said

"Historical colonial and Eurocentric attitudes"
The argument here relies on the academic theory that strict, immutable male/female sex binaries were exported globally by European colonial powers. Proponents of this view argue that prior to European imperialism, many indigenous societies around the world had more fluid concepts of sex and gender.
In the context of modern sports, this argument claims that policing eligibility—such as measuring hormone levels or assessing biological characteristics—disproportionately targets and scrutinises non-Western or non-white female athletes whose bodies do not align with Western historical standards of femininity (often citing cases involving athletes from the Global South, such as Caster Semenya).

The obvious problem is that this conflates gender norms (how a culture expects men and women to behave or present) with biological sex (ie male and female gametes, skeletal structure, muscle density, lung capacity etc). "Gender presentation" may
be culturally influenced or historically eurocentric but very obviously the physiological advantages of male puberty (higher bone density, larger hearts/lungs, greater muscle mass) are universal biological facts not colonial inventions imposed upon oppressed peoples.
