Obviously WPATH is trying to avoid legal liability so hopefully this positioning won't fly for it in court. However, this admission it is a win for evidence based medicine either way.

Get the message out the "Standards of Care" are just an opinion and there are other (better) opinions out there.

She looked after the IT infrastructure (PCs, network etc) for Leeds Citizen's Advice Bureau before resigning to become CEO of Mermaids. As far as I know, there were no other Leeds CAB employees in IT. It's quite a small organisation, two or three dozen paid employees and a lot of volunteers doing advice work.

The "free speech" get out of jail free attempt bit seems a bit of a giveaway to me.
In a malpractice suit against a doctor how often have you heard "free speech" as a defence of bad professional advice? Misdiagnosed? Free speech on the part of the doctor. Makes no sense.
No professional giving advice to a paying customer in any field of human endeavour gets to use "free speech" as a defence for giving bad advice. An architect can't claim "free speech" when their building falls down and kills people. Free speech covers the professional's opinion on general topics outside of work, e.g. who they vote for, and why. It does not cover giving bad advice in their professional capacity.
Strangely I think they are relying on this as part of their argument. I believe that by calling it free speech, they are trying to say/imply it was never professional advice. They are clearly trying to distance themselves from legal liability, and this is one of many ways they are trying to do it. WPATH claiming free speech, is WPATH claiming it was never professional advice that can be held to legal account. This completely ignores all the time they have been dressing it up as much as they can as professional "expert" "standards" advice.
I'm guessing they can see the FO stage of FAFO is barrelling towards them, and they want out.
