Full Council Chaos. Bristol City Council refusing to implement single sex services

Last night at the full council meeting women asking questions about BCC's refusal to implement the law was met with heckling from the gallery and a nonsensical word salad from council officials.

Somehow the number of questions, and goodness knows what other personal details, was leaked from within the Council offices and fed to far left activists who put out a call for attendance online. At least 100 turned up and abused and harrassed members of the public while they were speaking. At one point they were shouting at a questioners to sit down. No action was taken by council officials to maintain order.

As they left, women were met with heckling, chanting and shouting outside the building from more far left activists. The atmosphere was intimidating and abusive.

Please note, the Council agenda that evening held an item on a city wide commitment to ending VAWG. Harrassment and abuse was happening right in front of them and they not only initiated this spectacle but supported it.

Women are not safe in Bristol.

Something I read recently did give me pause…

Some trans men (women) pass exceedingly well - so to all intents and purposes they look male. But will use the female facilities. How will some people deal with what certainly looks like a bloke in the female loos/changing rooms? What’s to stop a predator saying they’re a trans man? I get it the other way, there aren’t as many trans women who pass (they need a critical friend on the hair, make up and fashion elements!) but this does worry me. Feels a bit ‘own goal’ iykwim

Why are you posting this on a thread that is clearly and specifically about what happened at BCC last night?

Why did you not start your own thread to discuss this topic that's been discussed many many times on here already?

That's utter nonsense anyway, not a reasonable viewpoint.

But as @GreyskySexRealistsky says, this isn't the thread to discuss it.

Which single services are we talking about here? Where I live some people complain about the leisure centre having mixed sex changing but I don’t see the issue because everyone has a lockable cubicle with high walls and walls and door going to the floor. When it was single sex people also complained, especially mothers of boys aged 8-10. At age 8 children were supposed to go in the changing room of their sex but at lot of parents were not happy to do this. The same applied to carers looking after adults of the opposite sex when the separate disabled facilities were booked out (there were disabled changing rooms in the single sex changing room).

Wow. Not the first time Bristol council has been ridiculous over this issue.

Can’t imagine that with Mrs Miggins out for her weekly coffee and cake with her friend Enid. Sorry, I thought the article was about same sex spaces, my bad.

We aren’t all as primed to look for those things, and I still think there’s a risk there.

Now, women can't engage in a democratic process without abuse and harassment.

Hopefully this can be cited in any future court case against Bristol City council. Their contempt for women is off the scale.

Ereshkigalangcleg · Yesterday 09:08

They are merely asking for the law to be upheld. Bristol council know very well what the law is. The officials responsible should be ashamed of themselves.

This thread is about disruption to democratic processes, be that local council meetings or vicious murders of politicians. I'm interested in that even if you're not. I don't live in Bristol but I want to know what happened in this case and the OP has an insight. Don't disrupt (hah!) the thread to talk about something you seem to think hasn't been addressed 1000 times before.

Absolutely appalling behaviour in Bristol.

Sounds like a perfect scene to be in a TV drama about all this, eh Nick Wallis?

BunfightBetty · Yesterday 09:14

Disgraceful. But predictable from this looney council and the far left extremists.

If nothing else, it’s clear evidence of the council’s blatant dereliction of duty in upholding the law in their practices, and further evidence of their abhorrent misogyny.

Women truly are second class citizens in Bristol.

I hope somebody picks the ball up and takes them to court for their failures. And the council leader and relevant councillors should be removed from office.

To be frank I would not expect transmen to be using female toilets as a fetish/affirming act, and so I anticipate that even the most manly looking ones would not be causing trouble for other women there. I would also not expect an average sized woman to be physically intimidating to me in physical form or behaviour.
(For reference Eliott Page is 5ft 1" but Lia Thomas is 6 ft 1")

Predators in your example = well behaved, small scale men who are not trying to break the law? Does not sound that predatory to me.
Unless you are suggesting that FtM trans activists intent on causing trouble may be out to cause trouble? I think that can be dealt with in the way you might deal with any misbehaving women.
Non-question really.

Yours is an unusual setup then. Changing rooms in the city I live in have “high” walls, but they’re not completely enclosed - there are gaps at top and bottom, which are more than large enough for phones or cameras to be pushed under or over. As has happened.

On a few occasions the incidents get into the local rag, but I guarantee that’s only a small fraction of the total. By mixing men and women together, you give perverts cover to be where they wouldn’t have been allowed before, and (surprise surprise) they’ll take advantage of that opportunity.

A better solution for the 8-10 year old ‘problem’ (if it really is one) is to have a few family changing rooms, separate from the single sex spaces. But many (most?) 10 year old boys would be mortified at the thought of changing in front of their mum.

Back to the OP - I tried finding the section of the full council meeting on YouTube but don’t have an hour to let the full coverage run. Do you have a link to when the disruption kicked off please?

Retiredfromthere · Yesterday 09:16

Back in thread I really hope that the questioning women (and men) of Bristol peak a lot of others.
Sending massive of appreciation.
And that the green councillors grow up and do the job they were elected to.

Is it Bristol Council that are being sued after misogynistic shenanigans at a previous Council meeting?

Wow, the video is online? I wouldn’t have thought they’d want anyone to see it. It has the potential to go viral.

Yep, sounds like Bristol.

I'm from Brighton (I don't live there now, thankfully) and it is a very similar dynamic. You have my sympathy.

And plenty of ambient Antisemitism and open hostility to Jewish self determination in both this those places too. It's depressing.

LizzieSiddal · Yesterday 09:44

So a meeting about VAWAG’s descended into women speakers being shouted at and harnessed as they left? And not one person tried to stop it. WTF!!!

Sausagenbacon · Yesterday 09:47

I'm a Bristolian. Fuckwit centre of the universe (except for me, of course)
