Very much enjoying the IPSO ruling in Molly v Sunday Times.

The press should note that columnists are at liberty to call Euan a "bloke", a "lunatic", and "Mr Molly".

What a refreshing change though. And as far as this ruling is on an opinion piece, I would imagine that the case for reporting sex accurately is even stronger in news items.

I wondered that. The new tone is refreshing. It's also significant that they twice refer to the Supreme Court ruling, which they are clearly using to endorse the view that biological sex overrules gender identity.

I am no fan of Rod Liddle but censoring a writer complaining about censorship would be pretty Orwellian….

If I were a young lawyer I would be eyeing up the genderwoo as a potential gold mine of a career path - it's one successful case after another, and it's only going to get better.

They frequently do a four months for a quid offer (I think) which is long enough to decide if it's worth it. I did that after finally giving up on the Guardian, partly following Hadley Freeman's move but also I wanted to read Janice Turner's columns. There are several other columnists I enjoy reading and I find the breadth of opinion refreshing. It was a bit of a revelation to come out from under the stifling left wing progressive blanket.

DH has subscriptions for most of the papers which need one. Gets an introductory offer then when they try to bump up the price for renewal is adamant he’ll cancel till they drop the price to something more reasonable.

I wouldn’t get over-confident about the Sarah Phillimore case, the grounds of the IPSO ruling are that the article was satirical and intended to be provocative and that as a one-off it couldn’t constitute harassment as it wasn’t a pattern of behaviour, SP has neither of these defenses in her favour. Also IPSO is a press regulator which neither contributes to rulings or sets precedent for libel cases.

The complainant was the individual referenced in the article. She said the article breached Clause 1 as it was inaccurate to refer to her as a “bloke” and “Mr Molly” as she is a woman. She also said it was inaccurate to refer to her as a “lunatic”.

She and her still. Institutions and organisations still refer to men this way, unfortunately.
