Banning male access keeps females safer. Wonder where else this could apply?

'I've banned most men from my massage clinic because of their behaviour'

After just a year as a massage therapist Maria has decided to be selective about who she treats.

In the USA massage therapy is a common use label for massages. Masseuse is the trained individual providing the massage at the salon. There are both male and female masseuse ( not sure of the plural) altho I am small framed female I prefer a male becuse I have deep shoulder/ clavicle discomfort and my experience is the males work it out deeper and use a chicken arm technique which you have to build up to. Most of these salons are called Jeff jones salon or 7 wonders beauty or the hair shoppe. There are places called lotus flower or Lilly
pad and honestly I don’t book them because I don’t want to place myself in an ambiguous setting.

my niece left a salon as a licensed esthetician because she did not want to do male genital waxing.

I think this also goes for women who provide personal services like waxing a lot of them don't take male clients due to them using it as a way to get off.

I take that to mean a yes?

Why would going for regular massages and not assuming any massage studio is offering sex services make me a man?

Can we have more grown up responses?

darksideofthetoon · 23/06/2026 15:48

I worked as a masseur (I’m a guy) in the past and refused to see men after a few sessions since they all wanted more. No thanks!

But even with women, there were often inappropriate actions etc. Something about the combination of a naked body and lotion perhaps.

You are confused.

The fact that you are female suggests that you are not in the market for 'extras' from a masseuse. Maybe that is why you are pretending that you have no awareness that on street massage parlours tend to have associations with men wanting 'extras'. And that many people, even if not yourself, are aware of this.

Just read through many of the experiences of people posting here to see how this is the case. Recognising that this tends to be the case is not the same as validating or affirming that. Do you understand?

I would never knowingly visit a male masseuse - certainly not for a full body massage. I mistakenly did this once when in Turkey on holiday. I has assumed that female masseuse would be allocated to women using the service. I was wrong. It was an excruciating experience i'd not want to repeat. He was very good and thorough at what he did, but I couldn't enjoy it at all.

Shortshriftandlethal · 23/06/2026 16:43

Back in the 1980's I used to go to a Dance camp in Somerset. There was a guy there that set himself up as some sort of healer/guru. Basically, what he was referring to as 'healing' was just him getting his hands on half naked/women.

A lot of the women who seen me told me they liked stronger hands.

I certainly do! The stronger, the better. I'm lucky, I don't mind male masseuses at all.

Indeed, many women told me that. The trick is finding someone who you’re comfortable with and knows your body and needs well.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 23/06/2026 18:07

There's a lady near me that practices chinese medicine, and does acupuncture, cupping, hypnotherapy, that sort of thing.

She's had to ban men completely as she kept getting harassed. She works entirely alone, it was really unsafe.

Her business is called Dr xyz's clinic. It's very very clear it's not that sort of place.

Nope. Put the goalposts back.

The comment was not “are you aware some high street massage parlours have associations with men wanting extras”.

The comment was it’s fair to assume that if it’s a massage therapist they are likely to offer sexual services. A nuanced but important difference.

You seemed determined to take offence, and in doing so misconstruing people's posts. There's therefore no point in continuing with this dialogue.

Nobody claimed what you are saying. No one at all.

Yes, I agree, but not when you are naked and lathered in soap..... and were expecting a woman.

How soon before some trans activist takes her to court.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 24/06/2026 21:11

My friend is a beautician who works in a basement and she won't accept men at all for waxing especially as she is sometimes on her own.

I read this with mixed feelings if I'm being honest.
On the one hand, disgusted at the men involved
but on the other hand, if you simply call yourself a 'massage therapist', outside an NHS type environment, then yes, minds will automatically think 'sexual'.
I would, and I'm female.
Call yourself a beauty therapist or sports therapist or something a little less obvious, and less inclined to attract perverts.

What?! So massage therapists who don't work for the NHS are sex workers? Wtf.

Why couldn't you enjoy it? Would you not allow a male doctor to deliver your baby?

I've had plenty of full body massages from men. Guess what, they were perfectly professional because they are qualified to do a job and they did it.
