Ireland - "Transgender childcare worker sacked for offering child 'a free kiss' as a prize"

A nursery hired a man called Aleena Starshine (🙄) and 4 days into his employment he offered a child a kiss from him as a reward for winning a game. He was suspended for this and other safeguarding concerns, and then tried to claim gender discrimination. Thankfully, he lost.

If this person has been actively encouraging children to kiss him, effectively normalising the kissing of children and adult staff - isn't this grooming?

Has kissing already taken place with children in this setting?

Has a crime therefore taken place?

And what is a 'little kiss' and a 'big kiss'?

So many alarm bells.

thetinsoldier · 10/06/2026 19:28

Four days. That’s all he lasted.

Then suspended on full pay during the investigation 🙄

In all fairness I live in exactly the parts of Dublin where you'd think it would be most rife ...

Are you a teacher in a secondary school by any chance? There were 13 trans children in my DDs secondary school year when she was in a younger year. There was a lot of online bullying going on within that cohort. Only a small few persisted.

I deal with a vulnerable cohort of these at a later stage in life where it has persisted and there are plenty on the ground. The university sector is another sector where it is not thin in the ground.

I guess like anything else it comes down to the circles you are in.

I'm not a teacher, no.

The point about persistence is interesting. Perhaps the lack of accessible medical pathways has meant that more kids try it out and eventually move on, instead of getting locked in as they would if they were medicalised. That would also mean fewer parents remain invested in the longer term.

My circle is full of media/advertising/creative types and while they will make all the approved noises in support, I'm not seeing their children/themselves transition in anything like the numbers that seem to be happening in the UK. Thats just my experience, but I do find it interesting.

ETA, there are certainly examples of children declaring themselves 'non binary' in a half hearted fashion for a short amount of time, but I'm talking about more lasting instances.

bathofbeans · 10/06/2026 19:51

I know of two children that switched clothes, hairstyles and chose names which they thought matched their 'new' gender.

By age 17 it was all over and they were their lovely selves again.

I think it was a craze that swept the UK and I think that craze is slowly dying out.
(except amongst middle aged fetishists)

All the 16 year olds I know now roll their eyes about it, a lot.

bathofbeans · 10/06/2026 19:56

The new craze appears to be buying second hand clothes 😄

Well this the fear.

I can only imagine what a bunch of English, trans identifying men moving here would do for the cause 😵‍💫

The only upshot is that it might peak a few more people and provoke greater scrutiny of the Gender Recognition Act.

As pp said, it's only a matter of time before there is a high profile case. Wasn't there something happening with the ESB headquarters?

There is still no resolution according to Google

The current operational status of this dispute includes the following key facts:Policy Unchanged: The Electricity Supply Board (ESB) continues to maintain its baseline policy, which dictates that all staff members have the right to access changing rooms, showers, and toilets aligned with their gender identity.Delayed Actions: Reports indicate that while management previously made pledges to install additional "private" or single-occupancy facilities to resolve the friction, they have delayed doing so, prompting accusations from employee representatives that staff concerns are being ignored.Employee Response: Senior female staff representing affected workers stated they felt "stonewalled" after attempting to escalate the matter to Chief Executive Paddy Hayes, with the issue being referred back to HR without structural changes to facility access.Compromise Reached Elsewhere: The only policy shift management conceded was rolling back a mandate regarding preferred pronouns, but the physical shared-space directives remain fully active.

Thanks, sounds like it's one to watch. Another depressing case of women's concerns not being listened to.

It just sounds like really hard work in the Republic. Once they've got these laws in place. Maybe cases like this, and the sunlight they shine, are the best hope.

Ireland was the test case for Self ID by stealth.
The government and transactivist like to showcase it as a success case.
But, while it hasn't had cases such as the Darlington nurses yet, it is only a matter of time before it does.
All Unions, all public bodies, all NGO's, all political parties with the exception of Aontu, are fully signed up to support Self ID.
There will be no support for any unfortunate woman who finds herself in a similar situation to the Darlington nurses.
Unlike the UK, the Equality Act doesn't have sex as a protected characteristic. Self ID allows a person to change their sex anyway so even that protection wouldn't have protected women.
Leaving aside Barbie Kardashian, there are other ways it is impacting Irish society.
Last week, Ben Scallon asked the Minister for Children, formerly the Minister for Education, about the book What's the T. The book was one on a list by the state broadcaster RTE aimed at children as young as 15. The book is fairly graphic with instructions on how to prepare anus for sex. Foley denied all knowledge of the book though it has since emerged that she had been informed several times as Minister for Education. RTE have now quietly removed the book from it's recommended reading.

Jenny Maguire , formerly Craig, is the former president of Trinity College Students Union. Jenny was also closely involved with Catherine Connolly in her Presidential campaign. Jenny also has a regular column in a National Newspaper where Jenny pontificates about topics such as abortion rights. Jenny also regularly features as a panelist on current affairs programmes and talk shows. Gender critical women are persona non grata.
As President of TCDSU Jenny changed all female toilets to gender neutral. Jenny was photographed as President of TCSU in front of a sign saying F*ck TERF's. Jenny also attended the Let women speak event where Jenny drowned out the women speaking at the event, including a woman who was speaking about the death of her sister in the Tuam mother and baby home.
Jenny is a darling of the Irish media

Helen Joyce, Irish author of a best selling book has never been interviewed on Irish TV. She was eventually recently featured for the first time ever in a National paper after a reader highlighted how unusual it was for a bestselling Irish author to be ignored in this way.

Last week in the Leaving Certificate there was a question in one of the papers asking about pregnant people.
The Busy Bodies book which is a guide for children about puberty removed references to women and girls on the page teaching about periods replacing it with the word people.
Some years ago the same book added a section telling children that eve to y child has a gender identity.
Recently, a newly built secondary school was in the news for it's gender neutral toilets. It later emerged that the original design shown to parents had separate toilets which was quietly changed to gender neutral as the building progressed. There is no evidence that an impact assessment was done.
So while many women may not see a direct impact that doesn't mean it isn't there. It's just happening under the radar as it becomes ingrained in Irish society.

Dear God, that's difficult to believe. These bloody people.

She was ansked about a book that tells children of 15, which I believe is under age, on how to have anal sex. And she can't condemn it. Refuses to do so.

Just says a parent should have ultimate responsibility.

What fucking for? Finding this book in the local library?? How is that anything to do with the parent?

She just kept saying it. That it's the parents who have oversight. The parents, the parents.

Is she seriously suggesting that parents talk their children through a book on how to prepare their 15 year-old anuses for anal sex?

I don't want to google it, but I'm pretty certain that encouraging children to have underage sex is a crime.

What a bloody awful woman.

edited to add in case people aren't clear, that she is the minister for children, being asked by a journalist about a book being promoted by the national broadcaster.

Eeeeuww

But "the children had laughed and enjoyed it". So that's okay then...

Someone else has probably already pointed out the grooming connotations here...

In a way the conditioning to not see what you're actually seeing is pretty impressive.

Yes, a perfect illustration of the 'Emperor's New Clothes' or Orwell's 2 + 2 = 5

All of those MPs in the Q&A with the ECHR the other day simply refused to see or hear what was obvious. I wonder if they will ever look back and recognise how they were so indoctrinated and brainwashed.

Beowulfa · Yesterday 10:53

FFS there is always the "your interview performance was great but another candidate was even better" line if someone complains about being rejected. Surely your brain would be in furious overdrive thinking up sound excuses from the moment Obvious Creepy Bloke walks into an interview for a job in a nursery.

It really beggars belief that he was hired in the first place. Who the HELL thought that was a good idea?! His open social media full of threats and fetish crap should have been enough not to hire him. It really worries me that whoever did is also not safe, or at best has absolutely no understanding whatsoever of basic safeguarding. Insane.

Cioccoholic · Yesterday 11:29

Terrifying that people like this can still successfully gain access to small children.

Republic of Ireland, of course.

I absolutely cannot imagine handing my precious baby over to Ms Starshine every morning, but I guess loads of people are “cool with it.”

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · Yesterday 11:32

Exactly. Even if there was a ‘fellow traveller’ on the panel, why did the other members just roll over and take it??

I know it’s almost a cliche now, that the older members of staff are terrified of the young ones. Could that be the case here, i wonder?

Datun · Yesterday 11:37

Such is the influence and reach of transactivism, I'm going to hazard a guess that no one dared say but this bloke looks dodgy.

That doesn't excuse raising a question about his social media, though.

But recognising that these men are perverts, or fetishists, is completely taboo.

I bet no one wanted to say it out loud.

moto748e · Yesterday 11:52

Yup. Spineless.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · Yesterday 11:53

Maybe the reason he was hired in the first place was because the people who made the decision to hire him, bought the all the lies this ideology has been promoting. 'Trans' are just misunderstood, marginalised, saintly people, who are perfectly normal. 🤷

I don't think the parents were cool with it in this instance. He only lasted 4 days.
