Single-sex bra fitting?

Can anyone please tell me which shops offer single-sex bra fitting? It's for a first bra for a shy teen, so I'd rather not have to get into any 'discussions' on the day....

Ring the shop before going and say you'd like an assurance the fitter and fitting room will be female only. I don't think there are any male bra fitters (trans identified or not).

You can rule out M&S. Sadly.

MummyWillow1 · 31/05/2026 18:41

You can just measure her yourself if you/she are that bothered. Just buy a tape measure.

IME having a bra fitted in a shop has been a waste of time. Somebody years ago put me onto the Boob or Bust online calculator and I never looked back. I got a bra using those measurements, that I later had checked in M&S, and the bra-fitter lady agreed it was a perfect fit.
Size was wildly different to the size I had been supposedly professionally fitted for!

Taking the measurements is a minor faff but it’s so much better a fit.

Id like to take her to a shop - so she knows what to expect if she ever needs to get fitted in the future.
@Lovelyview I'm also keen that there are no male customers in the changing area.

I'd look to see if you have any small independent bra shops nearby.

@WillTraynor I would measure at home first. You don't really need a 'helper' to choose a bra for small breasts. You could also just buy a soft bra that'll fit without needing to be exact.

It's as much about the experience of going to get fitted as getting her the right bra. If I measure her the first time she'll insist that I do it every time afterwards - I'll still be measuring her when she's 40!

I am in my 60s and have never been measured for a bra. And yes, I do wear the right size because despite being underwired it is comfortable. And gives me a really good shape. It’s not essential.!

None around here, unfortunately.

I've got to say I'm surprised by all the responses on the feminism board suggesting that I should just find a workaround and not take (hopefully) the next generation of feminism out because of men.

Bravissimo have a lot of stores and their customer-facing staff are all women.

I didn't know they sold first bras, thanks. I'll pop in and check later.

Well, this is the second or third identical thread in as many weeks.

This board sometimes attracts posters who like to talk about bras, young girls, etc.

I'm not suggesting you're one of them! But it might explain a lack of engagement.

Yeah I'm sorry if you're genuine OP but it's this. Shy teens needing measuring is a bit of a (gross) trope plus it seems so obvious to measure at home.

As Datun says, there have been several threads. The one linked below was posted in April. Hopefully there's something helpful in there.

Well, I've been here since it were all fields round here, I just NC because I'm paranoid about my XH with slight stalker tendencies. I dip in & out of the feminism boards, because it can get a bit too shouty for me, so managed to miss the previous threads. I'll look at the thread @doves suggested, thanks.

I don't know of any shops which specifically state that all their bra fitters are women which does not include any men of any persuasion. Sadly these days they'd have to be very clear with their language for you to able to be certain. I think you'll have to phone the actual shop in advance and ask.

But I'm another one who thinks that bra fittings are a total waste of time. Use the booborbust calculator to get an idea of size (go through it with your DD but tell her to do the measuring herself if you want her to learn independence) and then shop/order bras in that size. If she doesn't have much fat on her ribs you may need to try sister sizes too, as bras of the "perfect" size are much too tight on the chest for many slim women. eg I am technically 32E but I can't fully inflate my lungs in these. I prefer 34D or sometimes even 36C. Depends on the shop.

WallaceinAnderland · Yesterday 13:39

Bra fitting for first bra is unheard of these days surely? Most mature women don't even use the service.
