Can I Sue?

I was out for a country walk yesterday in the sunshine.

I had a picnic and all was lovely. I wanted to cross a field that had a stream but saw a fierce looking bull at the far end. The farmer was nearby and I said it was a shame that the bull was there as it meant I could not sit by the stream and enjoy my picnic.

The farmer told me not to worry as the bull now identified as a cow.

I entered the field and laid out my picnic in the shade by the stream.

However, it became clear that the farmer had misinformed me and the bull charged at me, she caused my picnic to fly everywhere and I injured myself as I fled.

Can I sue the farmer?

His defence is that the bull is actually gender fluid and that day the bull was identifying as a bull. I want to be sensitive about it but do I have a case?

Are you trolling?

WarriorN · 28/05/2026 09:22

Cows that have calves are way more dangerous. Several hikers have died from crossing fields with heifers and calves.

WarriorN · 28/05/2026 09:26

They can be worse if you have a dog.

Young cows can also be very funny about dogs. I had a stand off on the town moor last year with a bullock trying to intimidate my dog. She was on the lead. If I’d dropped it they would have chased her onto the road which could have caused more issues.

I had to stand my ground and physically push the cow’s head back with my hip and flap my arms to shoo them away.

I was also on the phone. I was quite proud of my cow skillz. (I grew up in the country and used to ride .)

Yep I believe so.

What nonsense.

I'm very impressed with your brave cow push back!!!
Despite growing up in a semi rural area I'm scared of cows after being chased by one as a child 😟

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 28/05/2026 09:31

Yes. Take the bull by the horns and see a solicitor (take the bull with you as evidence).

SinicalMe · 28/05/2026 09:32

Who’s Sue?

WarriorN · 28/05/2026 09:33

I was pretty scared but also had no choice as they definitely would have all run.

When they get put on the town moor they can be real arse holes at first. After a couple of months they calm down and ignore you.

A few years ago though there was a weird assortment of cows (they all looked very different and some were adults) and they never stopped being arseholes. I had to stop using that dog walking route.

Who’s Sue?

It's the bull's female name. Otherwise he goes by Steven.

FleurDeFleur · 28/05/2026 09:47

The farmer (he/she/they) is merely responding to the animal's needs and wants. I think you were violating her privacy by having a picnic in her space. Next time park up on a layby next to the A1.

lcakethereforeIam · 28/05/2026 09:54

Just because the bull cow was exhibiting testy behaviour stereotypically associated with his her birth sex doesn't mean her gender isn't valid. Honestly OP, do better.

Also, on the subject of charges, can you afford a court case.

Also, also, don't buy milk from that farm!

Who’s Sue?

When Sue is in a title, it is given a capital letter.

When using it in the body of a post, it is not given a capital letter. If Sue had been given a capital letter in the body of the post, you would be justified in asking this.

However, that is not the case here.

Not necessarily - it all depends what style guide you're using, Lady

Well, as the bull believes he is a cow the farmer did explain that the bull thinks he can produce milk if he is given certain hormones.

I am happy to buy that milk, in order to promote the animal's sense of identity and in the name of gender inclusivity.

To say that the bull could not produce milk would be very damaging.

Reporting this or seeking help with your injuries - or noticing you have injuries - would absolutely be bigoted negative messaging.

Bleed quietly OP. A male ego is at stake.

You are right.

I should know that a male can identify as a female if he wants, regardless of any danger or distress it might cause to actual females.

Thank you for helping me to see sense on this.

@Newnammmme: apologies for triggering you.

What if the capital letter identifies as a lower case letter?

giemepeace · 28/05/2026 12:13

I’m loving the first few replies talking about the dangers of bulls and cows and not of ignoring the sexed reality of the bull 😆
