This is from their Facebook page today. No consideration for the women who do not want men in their spaces.

Stroking their outer selves is a problem too...

Yes, I too don't get why putting women's physical safety and dignity at risk is considered worth it to 'protect' other's fragile mental health.

Yes.

It cannot be clearly stated enough. When a man walks into a women's single sex space he is doing it to use the women in the room, and the part of them being used is their bodies. He has no interest in them as people, their needs, their feelings, their consent, he fundamentally subordinates every women there or who may walk in to his higher personhood, entitlement and interests.

This is all about punishing the women who dare to assert their equality to him, and to a law that says those women are entitled to beliefs and spaces alongside his, rather than being forced to either bow to their service to him and provide him with their bodies in intimate acts and a state of undress, or be punished by losing access to society.

He and none of these people have the faintest interest in why women do not want to do this and want spaces of their own, because their beliefs, histories, experience, cultures, faiths, disabilities, voices - are worthless, as has been demonstrated on this thread. They are only considered human if they will shut up and get their knickers off in a room with him for his benefit. Women who fail in this duty are seen as contemptible. Their value is purely in service to men.

How is this not abusive? How can this be called 'inclusive'? This whole fuss is about women being permitted the equality of spaces and beliefs of their own. A win-win solution of equal parallel facilities to meet need as opposed to forced subordination and colonisation.

is this the person behind the post?

or perhaps an over zealous social media person

I note she came from Newcastle

She came from Newcastle Cathedral.

Why can’t people like her see the difference between accepting people into the congregation, and using the church as an agent for transactivism.

If I saw that awful rainbow flag, or any other, on the altar I’d never go there again.

@WarriorN I did something useful, too, and looked up your mentioned Inclusive Church Network.

https://www.inclusive-church.org/about-us/partners/

Just so people know, all the Catholic stuff listed is actually Anglican.

That's good to know - I looked at the 'Affirming Catholicism' website which says they
identify and celebrate the positive, inclusive and joyful currents which lie at the heart of the Catholic movement in the Anglican Communion.

So smells, bells, fancy vestments and pilgrimages, probably, but what about the awkward stuff like infallibility and transubstantiation and women priests and, importantly in this context, the Roman Catholic church's clear rejection of transgenderism?

'Quest', which is RC, also has to deal the same awkward RC stuff, and seem to be limited in what they hope to achieve, namely 'walking together':

We looked at our experience as LGBT+ Catholics, of finding ourselves at the margins of the church at times, the call to minister to others who find themselves at the margins and how we “walk together” as a church.

She might be the be kindest person around.

However in breaking the law she’s not fulfilling her duties.

Completely agree. Looking at the screenshots from the Charity Commission website, I hadn’t realised she lives up the road from me. Should go and knock on her door….

The Church of England, particularly in the UK, is losing members like rats off a sinking ship. Hence pandering to some of the more conservative African communities more than previously. So they probably see the rainbow community as a new source of income, although that does clash with my previous thought....

I think they're scrabbling at the moment, and will latch onto anything they think will swell the coffers. Despite the fact that many of these people are broke due to surgery and funding the fox killer.

And the music.

Musicians seem to make up an inordinately large proportion of people attracted to high church Anglicanism. Sometimes I wonder how any of them would still attend if there was no more organ playing or choirs.

I understand via terven networks that at least one letter has been sent.

This is so appalling I'm genuinely considering a trip to Sunderland to see exactly how they intend to conduct the promised toilet escort without me finding grounds to sue them. I live near Birmingham and struggle with travelling so it would be hard but I honestly think I might do it.

Edited

It needs a test run, like man Friday, but just women, all needing the loo in 5 minute intervals.

WarriorN · Yesterday 15:34

Definitely.

Have they done an impact assessment report on this new way to facilitate women going to the loo?

In actual fact much less “man” hours will be wasted if they offer this service for trans identified males.

murasaki · Yesterday 15:34

And the odd chap, asking for an escort to the gents.

WarriorN · Yesterday 15:35

Well it will be outing if they’re not included too

edit - the males who identify as female will need to be accommodated too with an escort.

Ooh, we could have a MN day out! Grin

murasaki · Yesterday 15:37

When they won't see reason, the only way to prove how silly this is is to take the piss....

I'm imagining it like a really bad relay race at a primary school.

You have no idea how much this appeals to my (admittedly puerile) sense of humour Smile

That missing laughter emoji again.

Along with lots of little children needing the toilet NOW, Miss.

They can’t risk little girls going into the toilet on their own thinking it’s the ladies when there might be a biological male
in there, surely, can they?

I hope they have lots of volunteers.

FarriersGirl · Yesterday 15:49

OMG I have enjoyed this thread. Growing up in an 'ecclesiastical' home I can honestly say that the deeply sexist culture of the church and its naivety on safeguarding primed me to become an atheist feminist a bit later in life. So many people within it are well meaning but blinkered to the harms that religion causes.

WarriorN · Yesterday 16:22

N’er fear; they’ve discovered the recommendation button on fb 😁

Also many if not most of the women unable to use mixed sex spaces would find this an accessible answer. She has absolutely no clue. None.

This would be torn apart in court, Naomi and Ben would have a lovely time with this.

Subject: Formal Complaint – Non-Compliance with Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, Equality Act 2010 Implications, Safeguarding Failures, and Insurance Invalidity at Sunderland Minster Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to formally complain about Sunderland Minster’s public position and practices regarding single-sex toilets and related policies, which appear to place the organisation, its directors/PCC members, staff, volunteers, and the wider Diocese in breach of legal obligations. 1. Breach of Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 Following the High Court judgment in Good Law Project v EHRC (and related clarification of the law post-For Women Scotland), it is clear that Regulation 20 of the 1992 Workplace Regulations requires suitable and sufficient sanitary conveniences, with separate rooms for men and women (based on biological sex), unless each convenience is in a separate lockable room for single occupancy.2327 Sunderland Minster has publicly posted a notice acknowledging a breach of these regulations by failing to provide single-sex toilets based on biological sex. You have also publicly stated your intention to continue permitting biological males (trans women) to use female facilities. This directly contravenes the requirement for single-sex provision “for reasons of conventional decency” and privacy.2 2. Public Intention to Breach the Law and Insurance Implications Your organisation is on record stating that it intends to continue this policy despite the clarified legal position. A deliberate and public intention to breach statutory health and safety regulations is likely to invalidate both employers’ liability insurance and public liability insurance. This exposes directors/PCC members personally, as well as the organisation, to significant financial and legal risk in the event of any incident, claim, or regulatory action. I request full details of your current insurance policies and confirmation that insurers have been notified of this stated position. 3. Website and Policy Non-Compliance Your website and public materials appear to lack appropriate, up-to-date policies compliant with current equality and health & safety law. In particular, there is a concerning absence of clear, lawful safeguarding policies that reflect the legal position on single-sex spaces. This falls short of expected standards for an organisation open to the public, including families and children. 4. Safeguarding and Child Protection Concerns Your public statement invites teenage girls (and other women) who feel uncomfortable to ask clergy or volunteers (unknown adults) to accompany them to the toilets and wait outside the stall. This involves unknown or minimally vetted adults being alone with or in close proximity to children in a state of undress in a supervisory capacity.2 This raises serious safeguarding issues, including:
  • Potential lack of DBS checks, specific training, or insurance for such supervision.
  • Risk of distress, inappropriate interaction, or safeguarding breaches.
  • Failure to prioritise the dignity, privacy, and safety of girls and women.
Such practices have direct implications for the personal liability of directors/PCC members (“Friends of the Sunderland Minster” or equivalent) and potential reputational and legal exposure for the Diocese of Durham. I urge you to immediately:
  1. Revert to full compliance with the 1992 Workplace Regulations by providing single-sex toilet facilities based on biological sex (or adequate single-occupancy alternatives).
  2. Remove or correct the non-compliant notice and public statements.
  3. Review and update all policies, including safeguarding, equality, and health & safety, to ensure legal compliance.
  4. Notify insurers and conduct a full risk assessment.
  5. Engage with the Diocese for oversight and support.
I reserve the right to escalate this matter to the HSE, Charity Commission, relevant regulators, and/or pursue other legal remedies if not addressed promptly. I look forward to your full response within 14 days, including details of steps taken to achieve compliance. Yours faithfully, [Your Full Name]
