All females welcome for intelligent discourse and non-harmful comestibles.

I think Due South had Toronto standing in for Chicago except when they had a storyline set in Toronto. That was filmed in Chicago.

Love it. How about World War Z? Lulworth Cove, Dorset, isn't it? Not Nova Scotia.

And my cactus, which I have had for more than 30 years, is blooming (early, of course)

I know! He likes it there in the sun and for some reason never seems to get any bigger!

Chersfrozenface · 20/04/2026 14:48

World War Z is a cracker. The final approach path to Cardiff Airport is over Blaenau Ffestiniog, apparently.

Chersfrozenface · 20/04/2026 15:29

Thinking of @PastaAllaNorma today.

AuntieMsDamsonCrumble · 20/04/2026 15:47

I can't recall ever meeting a ferret, although I've been following in admiration their manoeuvrability in reverse, on other threads. I wondered about Edith's insistence on remaining downwind of them and after a little research, discovered that they are related to skunks, both being part of the Mustelidae family.

Every day is a school day in the Bluestocking.

AngleofRepose · 20/04/2026 17:20

I had no idea they were related to skunks, ok yes, let's give them their own barn down the road from the Bluestocking. The capybaras can build it, and the ferrets can be cute way over there!

MarieDeGournay · 20/04/2026 17:44

Myrtle, the Ferret Reversing Academy is wonderful😂
It's a funny experience to have an idea, and then a few posts later to see it 'in the flesh' - sort of - and very cleverly done.

I'm glad they are only sort-of 'in the flesh' - but what about pet ferrets? can they be de-smelled or something?

The beach landing scenes in Saving Private Ryan were filmed in Curracloe Co Wexford.

MarieDeGournay · 20/04/2026 17:50

I've seen on the Reverse Ferret thread that our own, our very own NotAtMyAge has a big birthday this week - not sure what day, but maybe the gerbils could manage a 🎂, and lots of 🍾?
Shush, not a word to Not, it's supposed to be a surpriseGrin

I enjoyed watching the Tom Selleck mysteries, can't remember what they were called, supposed to be set on (I think) the North Shore (Massachusetts), but filmed in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I thought things didn't look right! But, it's ok because I have distant family in Halifax and I've never been able to visit (yet ), so at least I know what it looks like now.

AngleofRepose · 20/04/2026 18:07

Meant to say, I guess all these strange filming locations are mainly to do with how much it costs to set up shop there for weeks of filming.

lcakethereforeIam · 20/04/2026 18:07

I've just had a call from th'ospital. They have or they will have the results from the chunk of me that I left with them the other week. I'm not sure if they'd have told me over the 'phone. They didn't offer and I didn't ask. So I'm going in on Friday morning. I'm hoping the feckin' margins were adequate this time and it'll just be a matter of sorting out some radiotherapy. It's odd but for the first time I feel really nervous. It's going to be a long few days. I think it's because if they're still unhappy with the amount of me they've removed I've no idea what they'll do next. My surgeon said it was extremely unlikely (although not impossible) to happen though. The novelty of going in for surgery, anaesthetics and the like was interesting at first but it's got very old, very quickly. Roll on Friday.

😂😂💚

As it's you asking, Marie, and in order for the gerbils to have time to plan, it's Friday, but I decided to have a week of little treats and not just one day. I love afternoon tea, so that's what we've just had today. 😁

PastaAllaNorma · 20/04/2026 18:10

I've met both ferrets and skunks, and they are both delightful. Although the ferrets have quite the aroma.(Skunks don't much unless they spray)

Tough news for Dad - the deep infection hasn't been resolved and isn't being kept in check by the antibiotics so another surgery to 'tip black all over it' as the nurse jocularly described it.

He could dies as a result of the surgery but he will definitely die if he doesn't hav it, so here we go around again.

Lovely to see him in person and to take notes properly when the doctor explained what happens next.

fingers crossed again

SionnachRuadh · 20/04/2026 18:11

What puzzled me about Casino Royale was not that they shot the casino scenes in Eastern Europe and not France - that's understandable for budget reasons - but they shot in the Czech Republic but then stated they were in Montenegro. Nothing in the fillum looks like it's in Montenegro - probably not many people know what Montenegro looks like or where it is, but then why make it the setting?

lcakethereforeIam · 20/04/2026 18:11

I love afternoon tea. All those wee sarnies, scones and cakes. Having a birthday week is an excellent idea.

Mr Magpie's office building appears quite frequently in films. It's in London, but has doubled for New York and Singapore at least. It also appears in a book, weirdly - it's completely recognisable from the description!

Oh, Pasta, I really feel for you right now. It's an impossible situation isn't it? I have been there, wishing you strength. x

I've cuddled a skunk. She was lovely. Didn't smell at all.

Oh, Cake, I'm so sorry they've ratcheted up the tension for you. Four days can seem like a very long time. I've had 2 bc diagnoses, both given over the phone, but that was because the first was on the last day before the clinics stopped for Christmas and the other because there had been so much delay and it was the August Bank Holiday weekend. I think they do prefer to tell you in person, so that they can talk the results over with you and have a proper discussion if necessary. Everything crossed for you.

It's all go this week, it seems. I've been where you are right now , Cake, so I'm hoping for good news for you on Friday. Clear, good margins, yes. I had a wire in after chemo, because the lump was so small, they couldn't see it anymore, so I was praying they would get it all. So far so good.

So sorry, Pasta, that's very hard for your Dad and all who love him. Hoping they can really deal with the infection this way.

AuntieMsDamsonCrumble · 20/04/2026 18:23

So sorry about your Dad's struggles to overcome the infection Pasta Flowers

And Cake - I hope your results are good this time Flowers

Sending positive vibes to you both.
